Not that simple, India has always tried not to sit in any camp even during hieght of cold wars. India started non align movement under leadership of jawahar lal.
What putin wants cannnot be done, India cannot be a coalition in your camp. India itself trying to be a major power in world affairs, India’s natural inclination is towards secular democratic countries hence cooperation with US gets more.
India always had friends in both US and USSR, Iraq and Iran, Israel & Palestine etc etc. India does what is good for itself and Russia should do what is good for them in long run.
I wouldnt read too much in to this new move by Russia, its just a tactic to get more leverage. Afterall India is world’s biggest buyer of arms and Russia and others have lined up to sell from their bullet to most secret tech.
