Nadia_H, Khanzada and I were discussing this on MSN today. What is the point of our existence? We are sent into this world, and from day 1 we are tested. Following the RIGHT path is not easy, its difficult. If we follow the right path we go to heaven, but if we don’t we go to hell.
So basically, entering this world means being ready to face hardships for eternal bliss after death? But why do we have to face this test? Don’t we all hate taking tests? Isn’t life then a punishment for all that are born?

irem yaar, yeh christian belief hai k saara fault Hazrat Hawa ka tha...Muslims don't hold this belief (Please read the translation of Surah 20:115-121 from Quran if u wanna know more about this topic).
I suppose each of you had a different idea about what the purpose of existence is. It's just that, an idea, an opinion. No one can say, with complete confidence (and hopefully some empirical evidence) that something is the absolute purpose. Everyone has their own truths, and that's what they believe in. It's something you really have to think about deeply to figure out what purpose works well enough for you, and what you can believe in. :)

wow, thats a very nice way to think about it :)
50-B sorry please dont be offended :( I just meant to say that I thought since you had said, 'we are given the knowledge' maybe you thought there is no proof of this.
purpose of existence as i see it is to distinguish the good guys from the rotten apples. As i see it, it is sifting through human-kind to get the better ones; in my opinion heaven will only be partly as is portrayed in various commentaries. I think we await fruther tests in heaven as well. And by identifying NOW who is good and who is bad, it will be easier to select those who can be considered able to withstand the following tests

thanks Corrupt you stole the words right out of my mouth :k:
Irem: I think the Angels asked a similar question when Allah (swt) was creating man. Why do you have to create man when we are here to worship you day and night? I don’t remember what God’s response was though.
Only if instead of getting into philosophical discussions to show off how "educated" we are, some day we had once opened and not only read but understood a simple letter to us from Allah, that is Quran, this questions would have been baseless to begin with.
How many times, we read ayas in Quran without knowing that it may be pointing towards the wrong in ourselves and we just don't know what we read, ironic & shameful.
Islam - to submit one's limbs and actions to that which Allah has ordered. This can be done by following the shariah, promoting it and implementing it (yes you, not the mullas). Three very things - Establish Prayer, Establish Zakah, Enjoin the good and forbid the evil.
Iman - to realise the oneness of Allah and His signs and not to associate partners with Him. This can be done by reinforcing one's aqeedah and studying the sciences of tawheed.
Ihsan - to be as if Allah were in front of you all the time. This can be done by tackling the diseases of the heart, called tasawwuf.
Very good purposes and tonnes of literature on this stufff.
I think everybody needs to do the research themselves. Few people will take other peoples word for things. As a muslim, I find that there are answers in Qur'an and Hadith that pretty much answer these questions, although perhaps others may not see it that way. Eventhough the question may be answered, we may not wish to accept that answer, and this is why some people seem to struggle through life more than others. Everyone has their own ideas and interpretations, and thus must find the answers to their questions they ask themselves, or perhaps they can ask others, but you cant always make a person see and feel what you see and feel. If I didnt make sense please blame it on the fact that its 5AM. smile
