Why do even the people living in Punjab consider the Punjabi language inferior?
My question comes from my observations that: (wannabe-maadren) Parents tend to talk to their kids in Urdu instead of Punjabi. Students in schools and colleges try to keep conversations in Urdu instead of Punjabi, even though they might speak Punjabi at home. Punjabi is not taught as a subject in schools even though other major provincial languages are taught in respective provinces.
Some people say its inferiority complex, some say its against patriotism. I’m unable to understand actual reason behind this even after going through this long discussion
Pakistan meN Punjaabii kaa Urdu ne vohii Hashr kiyaa hai jo angrezii ne Urdu/Hindii kaa India/Pakistan meN kiyaa...English elite kii zabaan ban gaii! :( sad!!! :(
when I went to Lahore, my friends nephew said ‘gadhi’ (car)..his mom shouted at him, ‘gadhi nahi kehte car kehte hain’
Then she look at me and said ‘gaoo Gaya tha wahan se sun ke aya hai’
And I was like gadhi is not a gaali so what if gaoo se sun ke aya hai
In maharshtra legisative assembly.....those regional party MLAs beaten up a muslim(non maharashtian as he is from UP) MLA for taking oath in hindi instead of marathi....though Hindi is our national language.....
There were massive anti-hindi protests in tamilnadu....
In maharashtra educated maharashtrian Brahmins prefer marathi over hindi....
That is illogical in case of MLA from another area
If you love your language, you automatically start respecting others language. Its like when you respect your mother, you will respect others Mom (exceptions do exist like life1 crowd against MIL).
Its the same case as Karachiwallas say we Delhiwalas and UPwalas while in Karachi and when they counter real Delhiwala and UPwalas abroad, they start identifying themselves as Karachiwalas
I mean, tons of people speak punjabi outside punjab.
I mean, their punjabi > their urdu....
Its strange to note that capital cities of four provinces of Pakistan don't speak language of the province. The situation of Karachi is understandable ( though its a variation from historic record of Sindh where all people coming from outside adapted Sindhi language gradually including British officers), but the condition in Lahore is not supported by any logical reason.
