Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Do you remember PTV series ‘Qasmi Kahani’, based on Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi’s short stories almost all the plays were well dramatised and directed. I still remember the following:

(i) Ihsaan: *ing: Arifa Siddiqui and Azmul Haq (beautifully dramatised by Amjaad Islam Amjad)
(2) Pahadon ki baraf : *ing Hina Shaheen (as a beggar girl) and Mehmood Aslam (as a poet). gr8 execution of story.
(3) Sannata: my all time favorite *ing: Saba Pervez, Resham, Fareeha Jabeen, Naima Khan and Khurshid Shahid. gr8 acting by Saba pervez esp in the end scene when she refused to marry and say ‘main mard ban gai hoon’

(4) Satt Bhirai: *ing: Mehrun nisa (playing sister of seven brothers), Rehana Siddiqui and Khayyam Sarhadi

(5) Alhamd o lillah: *ing Rustom (as a village molvi),Rehana Siddiqui. The play was very much close to reality.

Couldn’t find any of these plays online. However, when I read collection of 40 short stories selected by Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi himself, I fouud all these stories there. here are links to some of the stories of Qasmi sb:

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Sannata was hauntingly beautiful indeed. I even read the short story later but was more mesmerized by the dramatization, particularly Saba’s sister’s character who threatens to put a coal on her tongue (was it??)…too good

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Yes Fareeha Jabben did that role very beautifully. 'Angara rakh loon gi zaban per'. Fareeha did some good roles that time including lead role in Ayub khawar's long play 'Khirman' where Resham did a small debut. Fareeha also justified her role in serial 'Raiza Raiza'.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

thanks for the ahq short stories link

yes i remember qasmi kahani. all these plays were great. i am looking for these too. sannata, ehsan, satt bhirai etc were par excellent plays. jitni tareef ki jaye kam hai.

i also loved ashfaq sahab’s tota kahani

ptv should start showing these classics one by one so that we can atleast record them and preserve them since not all are availble on vhs/dvd (i think)

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Here is the link to PTV long play ‘Kaanch ka Pul’ written by: Younus Javed and directed by: gr8 MNH *ing: Roohi Bano, Kurshid Shahid, Toqeer Nasir (one of his earliest performances), Firdos Jamal and Sarwat Ateeq

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Another classic PTV long play ‘Malka e Alam’, written by:Asghar Nadeem Syed and directed by legendary Yawar Hayat. Sameena Peerzada did a memorable role of a film actress at her career’s end very well supported by Salman Shahid, Agha Sikandar and Sohail Asghar. A must watch play.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

@muqawwee123would you know apart from rainbow centre where else can you find old ptv dramas in karachi?

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

I always prefer Rainbow Center for old dramas, as there are the main distributors like Sadaf, Shalimar, etc,. Apart from these, there are number of local shops who exchange and keep trying getting VHSs of old dramas and converting them on DVDs.

However, DVDs of old dramas also available at LARAIB, Clifton Boat Basin and at MAMMA MIA near Shahbaz Commercial

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

My pleasure. Did it play on your system.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

"Tu hi Tu" was a very good telefilm. beautifully filmed and acted.

the role really suited syed jibran and he acted well too. when he started talking i thought it was kamran jillani (kamran would have been excellent choice too in this role). shafi was great in his part and so was suman agha (first time i saw her doing good acting)

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Sayyad was another EXCELLENT telefilm. brilliantly acted by beenish chohaun, sajid hassan, darkhashan tahir, saqib sheikh and zaheen tahira and very well directed by angline malik. the last scene was phenomenal (just loved darkhshan’s acting there).

video is quite poor

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Link to PTV Islamabad Center’s serial ‘Junoon’ based on Masood Mufti’s novel ‘Khilone’ dramatised by: Mansha Yaad, directed by: Ghazanfar Ali Bukhari.*ing: Ayaz Naik, Rubina Ashraf, Shamim Hilali, Nayyar Ejaz. I liked Nayyar Ejaz’s acting in this role very much and the girl who was kidnapped by Nayyar also performed very well.

I was thinking why ‘Kidnapping’ is central theme in most of Mansha Yad’s plays. Be it Junnon, Rahain (Najji Sunyari) and might be in Poore Raat ki chaand.
