Interesting turn of events, getting a lot of mileage in the international and local press. Though I don’t know what the real objective behind this move by PTI is, it sure is generating a lot of curiosity…
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
I like it, if anything it's creating awareness among people of the open murder and killing of our people that takes place everyday under the guise of drone attacks.
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
Everyone already knows it. Who needs to be awarded?
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
Javaid Hashmi and Marvi Memon also participated in the sit in today

It was 3 am man, the man had been standing, shouting and travelling all day. I'm sure he was exhausted.
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
Yes if even a political move for the next election, I support it, since it seems to be a great strategy. Especially him starting it from the worst wounded area of Peshawar.
I hope he will defeat the taghoot of Pak. fuedals and pseudo industrialist who have been raping the nation for decades now.
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
If Imran thinks that an egyptian style Tahrir Square uprising will emerge out of this dharna he is sadly mistaken. He is wasting people's energies for nothing.
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
Looking at the video one thing is certain, he can still bowl more overs than Shoaib Akhtar. He is superfit.
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna

Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
Practicing law and making money.
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
- Approx 100,000 people gathered at Dharna : NewsOne reported
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
^ thats a wildly inflated number. most news agencies have put it between 5000-10000.

could the two threads be merged please.
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
^^ It's the first public gathering of this level in Peshawar for atleast 7-8 years now. It was a potentially dangerous move to pull it off.
Unbiased observers are putting the numbers at 10-15,000 in an area which is a hotspot for terrorism
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
lets call it 15,000 then. that aint 100k by a long, long way.
why would Taliban bomb their own? He was speaking atAkora Khattak ffs. The seminary that is regarded as the alma mater of the Taliban, that awarded Mullah Omar an honorary doctorate. He’s pretty safe from the Taliban there.
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
aap aam khaein pere kyon ginte hein ![]()
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
What do you think about his choice to speak at Haqqania Reverse Swing? Werent you opening a thread rejoicing about his opinions wrt mullay not too long ago? What do you think about him advocating a position called for by the Taliban and talking up jihad against Amreeka AT the alma mater of the Taliban, linked by FIA to where BB’s murder was plotted?
Re: PTI sit-in/dharna
^^ There's a complete movement behind linking Imran to the nutjob mullah elements. I can tell you one thing for certain though, that he's far more liberal and well intentioned than the other alternative you have i.e. Nawaz ganjaa, who had ambitions to be the caliph of Pakistan before he was correctly booted out by Musharraf. Nawaz created and uses Sipah Sahaba as the militant wing of his party. Under his rule, taliban thrived and there was a push to take Pakistan back to the prepressive Zia years.
If PMLN comes to power, you can be sure of vindictive treatment of the media, and a push to put a burqa on everything. An Imran/Mush alliance would be rather progressive comparitively and would have better repercussions for the country's long term future.
Also note that Imran addresses everywhere -- be it major universities in Lahore and Karachi or the seminaries. In the last month alone he has addressed students at IQRA in Karachi, and at a major business institute whose name I dont recall. I see him as an inclusionist of sorts who is trying to bridge the divide that has resulted from conflicts all around us.

right... he addresses everyone including ****job mullay at the most Taliban-associated-madrassa in the area, exhorts them towards jihad and spouts off about Amreeka. Clearly the link with whackjob mullay is completely unfair.
and I dont buy the premise that PMLN is my only other alternative. However close PML-N is to the mullay, PTI has been far closer to JI and Taliban than any other party of late.
