PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

So, what is going on now?

PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey | DAWN.COM

NEW YORK: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf’s popularity has gone down by a massive 22 per cent among likely voters in the next general election in 2013, says a recent report by a US surveyor.

The survey, conducted by the International Republican Institute (IRI), has shown the Pakistan Muslim League-N has witnessed an increase of 3.7 per cent in its popularity.

The survey claims that Imran Khan’s criticism of the PML-N, its leaders and policies did have an initial impact on the party’s popularity but slowly it grew out of it. Now the PML-N is the most popular party in Pakistan.

The surveyors asked likely voters that if the elections for the National Assembly were held next week, who were they most likely to vote for. The results shocked PTI supporters in the United States and may have a similar impact on its supporters in Pakistan.

Conducted between July and August 2012, from a pool of 6,001 respondents, the survey compared results from an earlier survey carried out in February 2012.

According to the IRI survey, 28 per cent of the respondents agreed to vote for PML-N, closely followed by the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf at 24 per cent.

The Pakistan People’s Party took the third spot with 14 per cent votes whereas Muttahida Qaumi Movement polled 3 per cent.

Internal fights, induction of traditional politicians, seen as corrupt and inefficient by most Pakistanis, and Imran Khan’s reluctance to allow other party leaders to come forward appears to have hurt his party.

The survey also showed that 91 per cent of the people believed Pakistan was heading in the wrong direction.

Respondents identified electricity and inflation as the two most troubling issues their country faced.

Seventy-nine per cent vowed to cast their votes in the next elections, 12 per cent did not want to vote, while six per cent are not yet fully ready.

The population under study is representative of the adult population of Pakistan.

In the first stage, the sample was stratified into four provinces. In the second stage, the sample was further stratified into districts within each province by rural and urban categories. In the third stage, each district was further stratified by union councils. The respondents ranged from 18 to 60 years and older.

The sample was distributed at the provincial level, rural and urban, in all four provinces of Pakistan (except for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Chitral).

Face-to-face interviews were conducted. The interview teams included both men and women; the female respondents were interviewed by female interviewers and male respondents by male interviewers.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

I think the relentless attacks on PTI from all quarters including the media is showing the impact now. PTI is under intense scrutiny like all the ills in the country during the past 60 years are due to that party, bad luck to the PMLN but any voters who get disillusioned with PTI won't vote for PMLN either in the next elections. They'd stay neutral in that scenario.

Jinab e aali, bring Pasha Sahib back, This is called curse of Pasha (ISI wala):)

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

^ don't worry PPP has further lost ground. According to the survey PTI is still the most popular party in KP and Balochistan. It has lost ground in Punjab, but PPP has also lost out. PMLN has gained in Punjab, but the thing positive for the party is that the people disillusioned by the party have not joined any other party.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

Now all of a sudden, IRI surveys are the holy grail for PTI opponents:)

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

Apparantly, I dont know what is all the fuss about PTI, I never find charm in any of there leaders excluding Asad Umar.PTI, possibly can only play good in opposition since they have no quality to govern. That's just my point of view and no offence to anyone.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

^ do you think we have quality governments in place at the moment in federal as well as provincial levels?

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

Its natural. PTI gained its media peak too early. Or may be because pasha has retired?

Nawaz is a real politician, wait untill the time elections come, you will see lot more changes.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

@syed what is the points you thinking PTI have a strong vote bank in KPK or balouchistan? What I calculating PTI aka tanga alliance only could get 10 seats in NA. I think it's much impressive result compare with past results.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

^ in KP I think PTI can emerge as the biggest political force to be reckoned with, the waziristan march would only help. People are really angry with PPP and ANP there, so it would be effectively PMLN versus PTI. In balochistan the nationalists are not in the picture yet, if they participate they will be the biggest power and no party over there gets more than 3-4 seats in any case. The elections will be decided in Punjab and KP. Punjab will also be between Pti and PMLN, but PMLN has advantage there.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

Ofcourse not, They are zilch, except Shahbaz Sharif and his team.KPK & Balouchistan governments are just terrible. They are there to undo what little left there.I really want to see a change in power politics, a revolution to be precise.I dont support any specific ideology of any party but Yes, I persoanlly think Nawaz Sharif has the power, ability, caliber to make things right atleast if he intentionally wants to.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

You had me till intentionally.

I stopped reading after that.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

Ironic.

Isn't it was PTI people who start floating around the surveys long before anyone in Pakistan even know the word "IRI,PEW,GALLUP" etc...

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

Never liked Shireen Mizari because of her pro-taliban stand but she raised some valid points in her resignation.
Just one person from PMLN rightly Khawaja Saaf Rafique put PTI on defensive in every live television program, why is that?

Politics is a different game it can't played by corporate titans turn into politicians, never it happened in human history and neither its going to happen. Guess what giving vote to PTI means divided results which will put PPP for runner up for President & PM posts again.

Ik should lose his breath a bit and start talking to other political parties including PMLN, ANP & MQM. He is not God yet, he should talk about others with respect.

No revolution is coming, just elections !

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

Attacks on PTI from all quarters have made quite an impact. And people who were going to vote for PTI have become undecided.

But point to note here is that these undecided voters did not go for PML-N or PPP. Their percentage is still the same. IK and PTI need to reassess and get doen with party elections as soon as possible because thats one thing that will decide their future.

Interesting thing is that when this poll came out in feb-mar, PTI was the most popular one. But it did not gain as much attention as it is getting now. Every news channel and paper is excited to note that lol. Another noticeable difference is in PML-N reaction to both polls. :)

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

Both polls are showing one thing, that Pti and PMLN would be the main contenders in Punjab and KP.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

majority of voters for PTI will be first timers, and the people who vote in every election will vote again. its premature to say the turn-against-PTI will not vote anyone.

Media is portraying PTI manifesto like it never happened in Pakistan before, bhai sahab every party has manifesto its just this time that media is free, judiciary is free, ecp is free & the civilian government is going to complete its term, all this a recipe for better Pakistan.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

Media is not presenting PTI's menifesto at all dude. Yes the policies have been presented but these events have not been over presented. Make no mistake. The only difference this time around is that a party is sharing its policies before coming into power rather than forming them AFTER coming in power. This is a first in pakistan, rather than empty slogans like 'roti kapra aur makaan' and 'qarz utaaro mulk sanwaaro'.

Re: PTI losing ground amid PML-N surge: IRI survey

I must say here that PTI has no chance of winning elections by relying on 'electables'. Their best bet is in the name 'PTI' and every plan should revolve around highlighting the differences between traditional politics and new politics that PTI claim to provide by party elections, well defined policies and transparent ticket allotment process.

Our very fabric of society is such as without electable one can't win.
