Good move, Imran is a sincere person and always have a capability to fight the loosing wars and winning. in Politics he have long road ahead, if he sheds off all the feudals and elitist and fake roti kapra makan people out of people's mind. He can outshine anyone in leadeship race, he need to win votes and concentrate deep into country side.
but welldone atleast he is giving something to people in any shape of form in a sustainable way. he is not staring free roti or langar, that can survive for few days and the real deserving people would have stayed out of it because of shame.

Jamat e Islami has been doing these types of things since long but have failed get the support of masses so far.
Other trusts doing same work are Chippa, Edhi, Alamgir, Kissan Ghee etc. Its a fact that hardly anyone sleeps hungry in Karachi due to very hidden charity by many people.
I know many people who go to some road side restaurants on their way back from their offices in Karachi and feed a lot of hungry people...for a lot of these road side restaurants feeding hungry with charity money is their main business...
In Lahore thousands of hungry people are fed at Data Darbar daily with people distributing food to these people...I am sure in other cities of Pakistan also these kind of gestures take place daily...
I agree with you Mostar that due to these gestures all over Pakistan a lot of people who otherwise would remain hungry atleast get food to survive...
Well IK should look beyond this - towards a Pakistan where there is no need for setting up a Sasta Tandoor!

Admirable move by Imran Khan. I worry for its pragmatism though. When charity dries up, what happens? It may last for a very long time as long as people have the giving capacity however from an economic perspective this needs to be short-lived and a means to actually lower the price of wheat needs to be determined such as Improving its supply chain and free-market competition. Making the prices appear lower to injecting charity and subsidies should only be a temporary measure and rightly timed (which it is), though this does not solve the real issue or make any genuine progress towards find real alternative means to lower the price of wheat. Has anyone ever studied the Walmart model of business. Its secret to success is not huge injections of subsidies but squeezing the costs where they matter and improving their supply-chain. Pumping in money from the opposite side of the spectrum is though a noble and much needed measure yet an impractical one. But a very good political move, none the less.

Punjab Govt was already running many tandoors which offered 2 rs roti through out the month of Ramadan. Some of them cont to offer this 2 rs roti even after Ramadan.
Initially what they did was, asked existing tandoor owners to register with the govt, so that they could be supplied cheaper atta from market, in turn, they should offer sasti roti. The idea worked for sometime, but then tandoor owners started increasing the price and reducing the size of roti, even after getting atta on lower price. The govt tried and still trying to enforce this price on special tandoors where they are maintaining supply of cheaper atta.
We should not leave everything on govt, we should also take some initiative and start whatever we can do. Imran is doing a good job.

You are half right, half wrong.
Yes there are other organizations offering such services, I've seen Eidhi and Silani Welfare by myself offering free food to the needy ones.
But its NOT A FACT that hardly anyone sleeps hungry in karachi. There is a very very large number of people who eat once a day, or those who cut short their other NEEDS to only feed their families.
Most of these services are being offered in metropolitan areas (thats not bad as well, because a lot of labour works in those areas and they get free food there) but many many many families live in suburbs, they cannot even travel to these areas to avail this free food facility. We should also start such services in those areas. Moreover, we should not leave everything on these selected orgs and to the govt (govt in sindh is not doing anything for any real issue, in punjab though they are trying as i mentioned in my previous post)
