PTI, PPP workers clash over Bilawal House barricades - DAWN.COM
KARACHI: Workers and supporters of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf engaged on Sunday in a rare fracas on the street outside the barricaded Bilawal House after a controversy over the longstanding walled security surrounding the former president’s house raged intriguingly after the PPP’s young chairman in his Dec 27 speech in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh had derided Imran Khan for siding with Taliban militants.
Bizarre scenes were witnessed early in the day when dozens of PTI workers holding party flags and sticks started gathering near the street leading to the Bilawal House which was barricaded with large containers and water tankers by the authorities. They chanted slogans against the government and called for removing the barricades which, according to them, caused hardship to motorists and area residents.
PTI to lay siege to Wapda House, SNGPL GM
PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will besiege the Wapda House in Peshawar and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines limited (SNGPL) general manager’s office today (Monday) to protest against power and gas loadshedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The PTI legislators said they would lead the protesters and would march towards the Wapda House on the Shami Road and SNGPL GM’s office in Hayatabad. Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Sunday, members of the provincial assembly Ziaullah Afridi, Ishtiaq Urmar, Fazal Ilahi, Mehmood Jan, MNA Sajid Nawaz and Arbab Jehandad alleged that unprecedented loadshedding of electricity and natural gas in the province was a conspiracy hatched by the federal government to defame the PTI government in the province.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is producing 4,800 megawatts hydel power and its total consumption is less than 2,300 megawatts but the province is facing more than eight hours of loadsheding in urban and over 14 hours in rural areas, they said. The lawmakers added that gas generation in the province is also double than its consumption. They warned of extending the protest to Islamabad if loadshedding was not stopped.
“If the PTI activists can demolish the walls of Bilawal House, they can also raze to ground the walls of the Raiwind palace and Prime Minister’s House. Nawaz Sharif stopped flour supply to the province during his last tenure and now he is trying to punish the people of the province for voting for the PTI,” said one of the MPAs.
They said the unbearable loadshedding was a conspiracy just to defame the PTI government but the party led by Imran Khan would foil all such conspiracies and would fullfil its promises made with the people.
