There are some people who can be considered psychopaths or those who show tendencies to act like em. My question is, are all psychopaths born like this or is it possible that perfectly sane people can somehow be driven to this condition/state of mind too. Have you come across any people who youve seen deteriorate from good to worse due to circumstances.

Please Rujoo the GS psyscologist...Non other then Miss Dushi:D
wat the APA and many other researchers define a psycopath, or a sociopath, as is the more common term, it seems like that you are born one. people such as that tend to show sociopathic characteristics from an early point in their lives.
you can be driven to madness, but that isn't being a sociopath.
From my personal understanding (and believe when I say I have experience on the matter) one is born with the genetic trait.
Some people have the gene for it but may not exhibit any characteristics of a psychopath during the entire duration of their life.....
on the other hand there are some that carry the gene and start the show signs early on in life and can get progressively worse as they age depending on the onset of the type of mental illness they may have. Schizophrenia for example has and onset in men which is in the late 20s and for women early 30s.....
There are also some people who may have the genetic trait but may not show any characteristics of that trait until some environmental factors contribute to a psychotic break such as overwhelming stress, depression and/or drugs.
OMG are you calling me a psychopath now For you information, I didnt MEAN to get your name and address and show up at your house with flowers and donuts
It's my belief that one is a born psychopath/sociopath. This behavior cannot be learned, it can only be encouraged. If you see such traits in a child, such as killing/torturing living things AND enjoying such activities, you should get the child checked out. When I was young, I liked toturing animals/insects. I would wait for Bakra eid so I could see animals being slaughtered. I even hurt myself, and it didn't hurt then. My behavior was however corrected when a kid in my highschool reported me to my counselor. My parents found out and I quit doing stupid things out of fear. :D I am sticking to horror/gore/scary movies now. I am not saying I am a psychopath at all. I just believe that this is something a person is always born with. Like they say, everyone is born evil.

There are two types of Psychopathy in clinical psychology, one is primary and other is secondary. Primary Psychopathy is genetic and secondary is a combinition of both genetic and environmental influences.
Sociopathy is a different mental disorder, Sociopathy is also related to genetic and social environment but it is more to do with the enviormental factors than genes, on the other hand Psychopathy is more to do with genetic.
Theres also brain injury which can cause psycopathology.
I dont think that either sociopathy or psycopathy can be classified - each case can be different with different cause(s). There are some schizophrenics who have not (apparently) inherited the disease. There are sociopaths who have inherited their trouble - ie., things like severe depression. Theres also Post-partum depression and post-partum psychosis which are brought on by wildly fluctuating hormones and SAD - seasonal affective disorder - which is (apparently) caused by wintertime lack of sunlight.
