It could be genetic. Perhaps there is a family history of dementia and disturbing psychosocial behaviors. It might also be caused by a dysfunctional upbringing. There are famous cases of schizophrenia in medical history, where the patient developed the disorder as a coping mechanism for emotional trauma/dysfunctional upbringing.
