salam all
so psyah’s signature says “The Prophet(SAW) said: “I am leaving you two things and you will never go astray as long as you cling to them – they are the Book of Allah and my Sunnah.” [Reported by Al- Haakim - Sahih].”… i made this my facebook status, and one of my friends came back and said "i am pretty sure it was " i am about to answer the call (of death). Verily, i leave behind two precious things (thaqalayn) amongst you: the book of Allah and my Ahl al-Bayt. Verily, the two will never seperate until they come back to me by the side of the Pond. http://www.al-islam.org/nutshell/beliefs/1.htm "
she is Shia, fyi
the Hadees as quoted by Brother Psyah is the correct one...never heard of 'ahl-e-bai't' as part of this Hadees ... yeh iftiraa phailaaii jaa rahii hai! :)
People have their difference as to the context and meaning of verses of Quran , you are talking about a hadees. Everybody has their own beliefs , you can just tell them what you believe in and move on. The onus is on them to choose between their belief and yours.
The hadees with shia POV has been quoted in these forums many a times too with references as recently as last week.
Hmm probably...it just didnt come across my eye. The signature one is the one I had heard alot as well as taught in our Islamic studies in high school.
But what's the point in arguing over hadith when either party would be sure their version is the authentic one !
that hadith is said in different words in the Quran as well, it is in shia books aswell including najhul blag
109 *About the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah
Go ahead with the remembrance of Allah for it is the best remembrance, and long for that which He has promised to the pious, for His promise is the most true promise. Tread the course of the Prophet for it is the most distinguished course. Follow the* sunnah* of the Prophet for it is the most right of all behaviours. Learn the Qur'an for it is the fairest of discourses and understand it thoroughly for it is the best blossoming of hearts. Seek cure with its light for it is the cure for hearts. Recite it beautifully for it is the most beautiful narration. Certainly, a scholar who acts not according to his knowledge is like the off-headed ignorant who does not find relief from his ignorance, but on the learned the plea of Allah is greater and grief more incumbent, and he is more blameworthy before Allah
...but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted (us) (to hold fast) to the Book of Allah and then said: The second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family...
Who are they, the members of his family?
Muslim :: Book 31 : Hadith 5915
...(The third occasion is this) when the (following) verse was revealed:" Let us summon our children and your children." Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) called 'Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husain and said: O Allah, they are my family.
So while you seem to think he never considered the ahlul bait as one of the weighty things, it is obvious he did. this does not mean that he never mentioned quran and sunna together either, they're *not mutually exclusive.

can someone provide me an authentic link of the hadith.
thx
and why give ahl al-bayth more signficance then the sunnah of the Prophet PBUH.
I'm not a fan of getting involved in religious debates because of how confrontational it gets. Here's the only thing everyone needs to acknowledge - hadith is someone's re-telling of an event from our Prophet's time. And depending on which side you fall on, whose re-telling you accept as being gospel will differ.
As to which hadith is authentic or is the correct re-telling of what actually happened, Allah hu alam.
can someone provide me an authentic link of the hadith.

The Ahlalbayth would follow the Sunnah naturally since they are the family of the Prophet (s.a.w) and moreover let's get this clear. if it were not for the sacrifice of imam hussain, there would be no islam (sunni/shia or otherwise) in any recognisable form today.
if hussain gave yazeed allegiance (which is what sunnis remarkably suggest he should have done), then yazeed would have the implicit authority to do with the religion what he wills, and as he didn't have any respect for the grandson of the prophet, what makes you think he had any respect for the religion itself?
hussain's sacrifice has given mankind an opportunity to embrace islam and seek salvation. without it (islam), we'd all be going to hell.
ashykh, this is known as Hadith e Thaqalain…this is a very important hadith as at the event of the final pilgramage, Prophet SAWW repeated this at 4 different points/occasions (along with Quran asking u for the love of Ahlul Bayt and that they r a source of guidance)…and there is no confusions regarding this as some ppl r implying…this hadith is narrated through 14 or 15 different chain of narrators, 14 of which say “Quran and Ahlul Bayt” and one of them says “Quran and Sunnah”…thus even in the case of the last one Sunnah implies Sunnah as explained by the Ahlul Bayt…and this is what Psyah will tell u as he has said it once here himself…anyway here is a study of the hadith http://www.al-islam.org/thaqalayn/nontl/index.HTM
