Protein Shake Diet

hey a friend of mine was telling me about a protien shake diet which was like a heavy break fast and a glass of protien shake for lunch and a glass of protien shake for dinner will make me lose weight fast. as she said its like a liquid diet these celebs go on. now i know its not healthy at all i just wana lose weight fast and i hav hardly a month once i drop sum i can eat salads and all to maintain could u guys suggest me shakes which are for woman also advise :slight_smile:

I'll strongly advise you against such methods. They are EXTREMELY RISKY. A protein shake/supplement is for weightlifters to help them get enough protein. It's NOT for losing weight!

Basically the idea behind this is that the 50-60 grams of protein(which is what you normally get from 2 glasses) will give you enough protein for your muscles to function properly, but since you will be eating very few calories, you will lose weight fast. Very risky.

so if a person was to double the amount of protein shakes would it help to lose weight, i'm at the right weight for my height but i want to get to my ideal which is 5 pounds lesser than that. would doubling the protein shake amount help me do that?

well i just want to get to that perfect weight for me. how come online it said that whey protein is used to lose inches

it's not really losing weight as much as going from a size 6 to a size 4 type of stuff
i read that whey protein can help with weight loss: helping to repair and build muscle and curbing hunger.

on the other hand it taken properly it helps in gaining mass if taken after workouts

it also increases the level of amino acids in ur blood

End of the day a protien shake is simply calories, just like every other food. (Obviously variant in the substances it contains)

On its own it can help you lose or gain NOTHING.

You'll only lose weight if you are eating below your maintenance.

Protein builds/repairs muscles, yes, however assuming it will help you gain weight is incorrect and misleading. Eating below maintenance yet keeping enough protein intake will not only help you lose weight but also will help you be healthy. Your skin, nails, hair etc needs protein, depriving yourself off of protein will not at all help them. Explains why the celebrities you look upto look as glowy and beautiful despite being on a diet, they keep their fat intake low, cut out the crappy stuff but make sure they take in enough proteins. Simple.

Also, assuming a female will get all manly muscles by taking in protein is also incorrect. Females need proteins as much as men do. Protein helps build lean muscle, naturally 4 pounds lean muscle is all your body can produce in a months period, regardless of how much more protein you take in.

The liquid diet you've been suggested does not look all that bad at all, theres a reason why theres emphasis on just the Protein intake, as long as you keep your daily maintenance level below, cut out the fat intake (a cheat meal once every week is acceptable) you will lose weight and that too without looking dull because of ample amounts of proteins you will be taking in. I would suggest taking in a multivitamin every now and then with your current diet as well.

Edit: Starting off with low calorie/fat foods and salads along with the liquid diet can also be helpful in losing weight, just do it all in moderation and you will be fine. Keep a weighing scale handy and use it every 3-4 days or even after a week, losing a pound in a week should be the minimum, any less and you will need to tweak your diet.

Exercise helps loads! for some reason if you cant go to a gym, koi baat nahi, lots of exercises that can easily be done at home just as much effectively as in a gym.

When you are hungry you need to eat, you can choose Carbohydrates, Fats or Protein to fill you up. All of these help kill the hunger, Protein however is the healthiest of them all, hence yes it can facilitate weight loss.

You need to have a proper breakdown of Carbs Fats and Protiens.

As a source of food itself Protien will NOT help you lose fat.

Eating 10,000 calories of Protien will not make you lose fat.

FACT of the matter is that if you are eating above your maintenance you will and CANNOT lose weight. Regardless of what it is you are eating.

Cant go wrong with Optimum nutritions whey protein, it has different flavors i.e strawberry, chocolate, vanilla. I and most people i know however love the vanilla flavor as it mixes up well and tastes great.

Eating below maintenance has always been the key as far as weight loss is concerned, protein turns into fat only if its taken excessively.
