I know for a fact that there is a weeding out system here in the US. So many freshman declare themselves premed students but change their majors after a few semesters. Some program make it especially hard the first few semesters to weed out people. Actually the system here kinda stinks but the people who go into med school are the ones with best grades. The reminder go into allied health professions or some other field. A lot ppl quit here too Bc it is very ccostly - a medical school degree costs around 200,000. Unless your parentsare footing the bill, us med school will finish their residency training and work to at least to pay off their loans. thsi applie to carribean school graduates as well. The thing in Pakistan is that it does not cost much to go to medical school. That is part of the reason why girls don’t feel as much guilt in not using their degree. many girls are encouraged by their parents to go med school for better rishta or to snag a doctor. It’s a definitely a status symbol.
I don’t of too many ppl here who have wasted seats here. there are ppl who argue that the system doesn’t always ensure that compassionate, caring ppl who are willing to serve humanity get into med school. Again it’s he ones with the BEST GRADE. Some of them should not be near patients. Actually there are some truly wonderful nurses and therapists who would have made great physicians but didn’t have the money or grades.
Pcg - there is definitely reward for serving humanity. If that is your NEEYAT For becoming a doctor siirely you will be rewarded by the creator for that. If the reason is for social status or money- one achieves that as well. ultimately Allah judges us based on our NEEYAT. but I definitely agre with you it is sad to see a girl who has potential and desire to serve humanity not get the seat over someone who has he desire to do it for good rishta or someone who leaves Pakistan to go abroad for better opportunity . Lets face it vast majority leave Pakistan after getting their degrees. Is that any better? They are serving humanity elsewhere? what kind of litmus tests can you use to make sure ppl stay in a country where no one wants to stay?
