That’s probably the reason you can’t go into med school back in the States without a 4 year degree. Med school doesn’t ask for a lot of commitment over here, yeah the degree is an year longer than your regular 4 year college, but that’s just one year.

Conversely, in the US those 4 years of college, before med school, give you plenty of time to think about how serious you are about being a Doc and the degree gives you an option to do something else, if you decide being a Doc ain’t for you. Asking an 18 year old to be sure about what their goals are in life is pretty ridiculous.

You PCG probably entered Med school when you were 22 or 23. You were probably a different person then compared to when just graduated high school. Girls in Pakistan however are shoved into med school right after high school. Taking an year off after high school, to think about your life, is not an option because you get penalized for it. If your high school diploma is an year old, they drop your grade reducing your chances of getting an admission.

The girls who sit home(after med school) can’t be absolved of all blame, however you will have to agree the system is setup such that some of the students won’t make it to medical practice. Some students who shouldn’t be there get admitted because getting in is just too easy, given you have the right grades. And we all know what kinda kids get grades here, kids who don’t necessarily have any appreciation of science, but can memorize a whole book without actually understanding anything it says and then regurgitate that on their test papers. Students(in high school) aren’t taught to think anything for themselves much less make the difficult decision of what they’re going to do once they graduate med school.
