During the series between Pakistan and England we ran a very successful fantasy league.
A number of guppies made recommendations to improve the way the league was run.
Please make your recommendations in this thread. Saby, Captain1, decent 6chora and Fkhan2 will review them with a view to incorporate the pratctical ones for the upcoming Pakistan/India series.
I will go with the first recommendation. At the moment we give 30 points for a wicket taken in tests and 20 points for a wicket in ODI’s. I think it should be further refined by giving extra points based on strike rate. For eg if bowlers A takes 5 wickets for 50 runs his bowling average is 10 while bowler B takes 5 wickets for 100 runs, his average is 20. At the moment people who have selected bowler A will get 150 points and so will the people who have selected bowler B. There should be extra points for bowler A’s average. We could divide these into bands like average upto 10 gets extra 25 points, average upto 20 extra 10 points and so forth. Would make it more interesting.

Thank you ehsan bhai for opening this thread.
Not a bad idea but I was thinking what will happen lets say if one captain continues with his strike bowler with an attacking field, for e.g in the last innings of a test match with more than 400 or 500 runs to defend. At that time the captain won't mind alot of boundaries being scored. We often see a team lose 4-5 wickets and than there is a 80-100 mufta partnership in between maily because of the attacking tactics. You really can't blame a bowler at that time if he give 30-40 runs in boundaries
I was thinking what if we keep it simple and give bonus points for bowlers who get more than 5 wickets in a test innings and 10 in a match. Similarily in an ODI , bowler gets bonus point for getting more than 4 wickets.
Another interesting idea could be if we identify "key" players from both sides at the start of the series . Like inzi and yousuf from Pakistan. Dravid and Tendi from India. Any bowler picking their wicket will get 10 extra points.
As far as trump goes, I strongly recommend the change the policy, provided it is possible. I am hopefull that it is doable if Decent Bhai continue to provide the support. I think partipants should be required to change their trump after every match and they can only pick a player as a trump once in the series.
Main Ehsan Afridi Khan Aap ki Agarkar animosity se agree hou, now can you please vote for me for the post of PCB chairman, and if you say I will even throw a few bollybusters for your followers Votes.
hmmmmm… and who ever gets Gangu’s wicket in an ODI should be penalized as well. Infact that player should be disqualified.
Gangu tu sonay kee churyaa ho gee, us ko out nahin karna hay:nono:
Other provision I'd like to request is .... allow to change atleast 2 players after each Test match and 1 after each ODI, that would allow to cover for any injured, banned or dumped player so people will stop complaining "oh I was playing with only 7 players" etc., also if anyone wants to change a non-performer player or due to 'spinning track/seaming track/batting track' reasons.
Alot of people may not be posting their ideas thinking that there are still more than 2 weeks left in the series.
Why don't we keep a deadline so that people who want to give recommendations should do it by than.
Decent should be given sufficient time to review them to see if they can be implemented as well.
I want to suggest a very basic change that members should be allowed to alter the teams after every game. That will make the contest more closely fought.
2ndly assigning the weight to players is also a good idea. For example Inzi, Yousuf, Tendi and Dravid’s wickets should fetch bowlers 25 + 10 points while Laxman, Younus wickets may fetch 25 +5 etc
These are just examples ….. but we have to make sure that we don’t make it too complicated to finish it b4 time.
You mean that even if we alter our team entirely, you won’t have trouble compiling the results and total???
Yar this would be the best recommendation. We didn’t know if it can be implemented or if its doable. Agar boltay tu ehsan bhai kehtay kay zada hee free ho gie, ungly pakrie aur haath pakr rhay ho:hehe:
Very good idea if you can implement it. Will keep everyone in game…
Another good idea. Ideally a weight of wicket should be that players batting average before the start of match. Like Dravid wickets will get you 57 points and Danish Kanerias probably 10 ( whatever is his batting average). Sound like good idea but again implementing it can be difficult.
we all talk about bonus points but is it possible to subtract points?
What if a bowler concedes more than 10 extras (in the form of no balls and wides) in an innings- minus 10 points from the participant's fantasy league total
A batsman getting out on zero- again minus 10 from the total.
Thats not practical Decent6, everyone will change their trumph to the player who has the most point.
Few changes.
Teams would be selected once, only from the final 16 (officially) announced for the series (tests and ODI seperately). Now its our luck if someone gets injured or dropped. Use your best guess. Everyone will have same advantage or disadvantage in that case and no complains.
Regarding points system:
For each wicket a bowler must get 20 points, not 30, (remember Flintoff stole the FC show without making any real big impression on the results of the actual matches as compare to Inzi, Akhtar, Akmal and Plunket).
For catches taken by keeper should be 10 points.
For catches taken by other fielders, 5 points.
So a caught and bowled will earn 20+5 points to the bowler. A little spicy wicket for bowlers.
For run outs fielders(s) involved (as cricinfo officially states in it scorboard) must get 10 points each. And if its a direct throw or only one fielder is involved officially then there must be 20 points.
Stump by keeper will earn 10 points to the keeper and 20 to the bowler.
+To make it a little more spicey if you will, keeping Afridi, Dhoni, Sehwag and Razzaq in mind, each 6 will earn an extra six run to the batsmen.
For example, if a batsman made 48 and hit 2 sixes he will get 60 points. 48+(2x6)=60
Atleast it will be exciting in ODIs if you don't want to include it in tests.
Each user will get the points earned by his team during any given match only. For example, If if you have selected Tendulkar and I didnt in the first test match then even if i select TEndulkar in the 2nd game, i’ll not get his points earned during first game.
Smooth bhai with a similar trumph everything becomes too predictable. You must have noticed that people winning the FC not because of their trumphs at all. Than what is the use of trumph??????
When I said that every one has to change their trumph after every match, first of all I meant that you will announce an 11 member Fantasy team like you normally do and than identify 3 players from your original squad as your 3 trumphs in each match. I had in mind that lets suppose if I have shoaib akhtar as my trumph in the first test than he can't be my trumph for the next 2 matches. His points will be doubled only during the 1st match for me. That does't mean that all participants will get double points for shoaib. Only those who will identify him as trumph will get it. Now lets suppose if he perform well in the first test, than your concern is that everyone will pick him as trumph for the next match. First of all only those will pick him who didn't pick him as trump for the first test. People like me who already picked him up will not be able to pick him again. Now its all depends upon luck. May be the decision of picking him up as trumph in the 2nd test will back fire, if he does't perform. On the other hand, people who picked him up as trumph in the first test (and has benefited from him already), will have to pick some one else like Dravid. If Dravid performs well, than that means that those particpants will be well ahead of other participants.
Now just compare that with the old trumph policy where most participants have picked up a similar player for the entire series. If that player does well, than most participants will do good. If he does bad, than most will do bad. Bottomline there is no point difference because of trumph and eventually you have to depend on some other player.
I like the idea of caught and bowled where bowler will not only get the point of his wicket but also the catch.
As fas as points for wickets are concenred, I agree that flintoff being the trump got more points. But if we have a change in trumph policy than I don't think it would matter since trumps will be switching for each participants. Than it will be actually good if wickets will be of 30 points.
There is this new ‘Supersub’ rule for the playing 11. We should have one too for
the F/League. Members be allowed to make ONE or TWO changes after every ODI or the Test. One player should not have played the match before, and the Second one regardless. This change selection should be from any catagory; Bowler, Batsman, a/rounder regardless of the pre-match selection.
**Cutover time **should be an hour before the match (If that is not the case already)
(I love this one!) If a player/s gets unfair treatment by the Umpire, wrongful OUT, reprimanded for** Bowling action**, or warnings for various reasons, F/Leage member should get 50 POINTS for the pain and stress.
**Winning margin **- Less than 10 runs = 20 Points, More than 10 less than 25 runs = 40 Points, More than 25 less than 100 runs = 50 Points & more than 100 runs = 100 Points. ^ For this there should be a bottom line for members to forcast game result in favour of Pakistan or India by a specified margin of runs.
