Proper Manners of Eating

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

so just cos some or many muslims have religion and culture mixed up that means islam is not the one true religion? You do realise that is a shortcoming of the followers and not islam right?

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

As I said before..........Islam allows you to use tools to eat if you want to.........Why is it preferable to eat with right hand bcoz Our Prophet Muhammad(SAW) used to use his right hand to eat.
Why we imitate Prophets bcoz they are the best of humanity.

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

Well, you can accept Islam and still can eat with your knife and folk using your left hand.

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

I do..........do you?

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

good job! I guess you have a right to say all you are saying. That does include eating rice/curry with your hands too right and not just breaking bread or naan? How do you eat pasta with your hands or do you not eat pasta at all?

As for me there are certain things(drier) I will eat with my hands and certain things that I will not eat with my hands, simple.

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

First answer my question then I'll tell you how do I eat pasta, tortellini, spaghetti, and chao min.

Oh So you've already given the answer. Well, So do I.

I eat curry and rice or daal chawal with my right hand.

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

:D

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

I even feed my children with my right hand as they love eating from my hand.

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

Well that does it for spoonfeeding :) just kidding Hareem :D please don't be angry with this brother of yours.

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

i'm not angry with you at all........:)

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

Femme Fatalate is right hareem01 ..... .if someone eat rice/curry with hands...his /her face will be Piccasso Abstract Art painting....believe me ... :D

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

I have yet to see someone eating with their hands in public, except at a family wedding of one of my khalas servants in a village I think, hmmm. Otherwise even the holiest looking of them all resort to spoons and forks. In the privacy of your home it's a different story but in public, geez I would not eat sticky stuff in particular with my hands. Talk about hygiene I don't think greasy stains around glasses are very hygienic or pretty looking.

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

Then consider my views that some term as "attacking" or "insulting" as a public service.

2 issues I have -

The followers of Islam, more than those of any other religion, judge others 'outside of the fold' when they don't follow their prescribed version.

I don't understand how 1400 years after the final revelation of the perfect religion with the perfect book and perfect prophet, it is possible that so many followers have it wrong.

My big question - why many perceive the culture at the time of the prophet as 'religion' - seems to have been around since the advent of Islam. If anything, it is becoming less so with Islam being practiced in every culture and with technology and all, but it goes w/o saying that this confusion of culture/religion has been around for thousands of years. So if that is my issue and my question - how can it be pinned on the followers if that is the way it has always been?

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

First thing is that..its sunnah...not farz....so according to the place...locality...and environments...any thing which is approprite can be used......prophet(pbuh) said that to eat with right hand....but he never said that ...according to my little knowledge ...that eat with hands.....

so ..i think..we should not be so touchy about such small matters....

any comments....

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

whatever happened to “Obey the prophet”

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

You must come from the aristocrats then?

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

But we should be touchy about preserving what is and what is not considered a Sunnah.

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

Your khala's servants have earned themselves a reward by following Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad(SAW).

I'm disturbed with your class distinctions in your writing.

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

^Femme Fatale...........Doing a fardh will earn us reward and omitting a fardh will earn us sin........Doing a Sunnah will earn us reward and omitting a Sunnah will earn us no sin.

Except, when the intention of omitting a sunnah is done bcoz it is considered to be backward, derogatory or uncivilized, in which case, we would be shunning the practice of the Prophet(SAW).

Al-Qur'an Surah 108. Abundance, Plenty

1. To thee(Muhammad (SAW)) have We granted the Fount (of Abundance).
2. Therefore to thy Lord turn in Prayer and Sacrifice.
3. For he who hateth thee(Muhammad(SAW)), he will be cut off (from Future Hope).

Re: Proper Manners of Eating

Actually I think the fact that the people didn;t eat from their hands out of any sunnah or love for the Prophet :saw: its just the way they have been eating for centuries. Even kattar hindus eat with their hands and I highly doubt that has anything to do with sunnah. A banglaadeshi eats with his hands too but its not even close to the prescribed method. most bangladeshis shopkeeprs eating their food during lunch break would make you want to look the other way. Plus there was no class distinction I was just telling who’s wedding I attended.

What many people don’t realise is that just eating with hands alone is not enough, their is a manner in which food is to be eaten by hands so that you don’t disgust those around you. If you entire fingers are covered with food and u are licking your fingers after every other morsel or yet wiping them with the corner of your dupatta I doubt any sunnah is being followed and any ajr earned.
