Re: Professional Women in a Bollywood Daze?
That whole hadith about a displeased husband is overrated. If displeasing your husband means doing something good in the way of Allah, like practicing medicine or law or business and being of good civil service to your community, then I'd rather displease the husband.
Displeasing the husband is wrong when you're also displeasing God. If your husband is displeased over something perfectly halaal, then your argument falls down the drain.
Rahi baat breast feeding ki, there are plenty of women even with today's science who do long-term breast feeding. There is nothing wrong with that. There is also nothing wrong with switching over to forumula, since science shows that is okay. And God is the biggest scientist of all. If formula's were available in the Prophet's time, he might have encouraged it for all we know.
Furthermore, if you actually crack open the Quran and read that verse, it explicitly says that the husband and wife will make this decision of when to wean the baby AND that outside advice should be sought on the matter. Oh my, could God be asking us modern day muslims to go see a doctor on the matter? Wow, isn't God so omniscient? Really, don't quote hadith without knowing what the Quran says on the matter, since Quran is superior to any hadith.
I agree with sadzz. A good wife is not the one that says "haan haan" to everything her husband says. A good wife is the one that has the balls to challenge her husband when he's wrong, so that the family doesn't propogate bad principles and values onto their children.
