prices in pak...seriously?

ok…i’m not a bride to be. my brother’s gettin married soon and i’m relying on relatives in pak to get a dress made for me. dilemma is: the dress they chose is $1000 AFTER BARGAINING!!! its a designer dress… a gown. i’m sure its nice as my aunt’s choice is usually perfect.

But the thing is, thats ALOT of money for the sis of the groom. i want them to go n choose a cheaper, non-designer gown but my aunt is insisting that i get this as apparently sis of the bride is sooo special bla bla bla. my hubby is also insisting i get it…and i’m like…is a thousand bucks seriously not that big a deal anymore? are prices in pak really that high all of a sudden? i mean, i’m not the bride i’m only the sis.

if money wasn’t a big issue and u could easily afford it, but still have a brain that likes to reason before throwin money away, would you buy it???

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

Bridals are hard to find below 2K these days, so if you're getting something from a designer, I'm not surprised that your outfit would be 1K. You might ask them to look at smaller boutiques. You're the sis of the groom, but if you're going to wear something by a designer, something that may even be considered a light bridal, then you have to be prepared to pay.

But yeah, the prices are crazy.

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

$1000 is a lot of money for a dress that's not a bridal. I would look in smaller boutiques instead of going for an expensive designer. No doubt the designer gown is probably worth the money but it wouldn't be much use for you after you have worn it once as it's probably quiet heavy.

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

why don't you ask them to send pictures so you can determine whether you will be able to wear it more than once...

i agree with the comments above, if you morally feel that its a bit too much to pay, have them look at other boutiques...

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

Yea i asked for pics but apparently the staff wont allow pics so the designs arent copied :(

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

Who is the designer? What kind of outfit is it?

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

Yeah $1000 is a lot for just a dress for the sister. I'm a bride to be and my bridal is a bit more then that, and all my dresses being made are no where close to $1000. People from Pakistan do insist that I spend more money on my clothes for after shadi but I don't have it in me to spend $500-1000 for a formal dress. Even if I had money to throw away, I wouldn't spend that much on one non-bridal dress. For my cousins wedding I bought a pishwas from Pakistan for $350ish (two years ago) and I wore it once. two years later, it looks completely out of style and i don't think i'll ever wear it again.

I suggest you look at something different, especially since you probably won't get much of a chance to wear it again.

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

i spent about $200 average on each after-wedding formal. I'm getting 10 from my moms side and about 14 from the hubby's side. I think that was too much. I wont have time to wear all those anytime soon and what if they go out of style. But back to your point, My sisters are wearing a lehngha and gown for the wedding and valima respectively. The lehngas were designer from Mumbai for about $325 each and the gowns were non designer but showroom outfits for about $250 each. I think $1000 is wayyyy over priced. My designer bridal was $1300.

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

Um you can easily get something beautiful and appropriate for <$300

You've got a pretty good deal! Could you please tell me who the designer of your as well as your sister's outfits is?

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

well yes prices in Pakistan are really hitting the roof..
For my trousseau I've actually bought clothes that are around 20k but they have no kaam on it, just maybe some screen printing or a nice cut.. so if its ur sisters wedding, and you want something bhaari from a designer then you'll probably have to pay around 80k.. however most designers can do something lighter for 50k-60k as well.. its just how expensive everything is..
I'm actually getting an outfit made from kehkashan centre in karachi which does not have a lot of kaam but has still costed me around 35k plus all the effort to get materials and pattis and getting it dyed.. so i dont think you're getting ripped off.. but u can lower your budget and opt for something lighter which will still look nice!

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

i got my wedding outfit from millionaire and some outfits from seasons.

Re: prices in pak…seriously?

Pakistan is the most expensive country i have ever been to :cryb:
though i came from one of the top 5 most expensive cities in the world…
i still think my country can;t compete with pakistan, and the quality…:bummer:

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

we are 5 sisters n in Uk it was v difficult 4 us to wear designer dresses bcoz these dresses are v much expensive here.

anyways,i place order to catwalk n i will say,i really satisfied with her fabric n stitching and everything whtever we ask for with reasonable budget.first i place order 4 single dress after check her quality i also order her 4 bridelwear.her partywear range is in between 20k - 35k.

Re: prices in pak…seriously?

I got a beautiful heavy anarkali last summer for about $200-$250 from Mohsin’s on tariq rd.

i can share pics with you privately but it was really heavy and very pretty in my eyes.

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

$1000 = RS. 85,000 pk rupees are too much.

i m not expert of clothing, but it is not good decision to buy it.

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

not much but really tooooooooooooo much...my honest opinion is dat plzz n plzz dont waste ur huge amount in order to run after ur relatives suggestions...relatives in pak think dat ppl from abroad can do n afford anything..its ur hardworked money n better if u give some to a poor girl who cannt afford dresses..as far as the question is abut the range in pak then i tell u seriously...more u 'll spend on a dress dat would b not a end for the ppl..i mean there is no limitation of money to get a dress but u can have a super beautifull dress only in 500$ or much less than...designer's hobby is only 'lotna'...if u get a super non designer dress n u tell others any name of famous designer then believe me nobody would doubt wat u 'll b saying...its just non sense to get a dress as a dulha's sis...

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

*Relatives will drain your bank like nothing....be smart in your spendings...even if you buy a $5000 dress you will still hear negative.......... *

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

I am completely agree with horizon472. your relative could not understand the hours of work spent on job and making money. they think, you are tree which produces green paper with dollar signs.

grow up and get a life and buy a dress from small boutique. you will find a good dress in less than $250.

designer dress can only be afforded by the wives of mill owner, or the land lord of pakistan.

if you put $750 in sadqa/charity/help , you will get reward in life here after.

Re: prices in pak...seriously?

You will not get anything nice within $250.. that's only about 20,000 rupees.
If plain lawn joras are ranging at 4k-5k then how can you expect a formal to be within 20k and include chiffons and silks and bhari kaam plus labour.. it's absolutely not possible.. u need to budget atleast $500 in my opinion.. and I can safely say this based on my recent trip to Pakistan.
