It's funny that Faraz and Sumbul came to Dubai to open-up their flagship store and wanted my help..they seemed ultra-sweet and easy to talk to and convince!
Ziggy, is the dress I posted by Bunto? It sure seems like one of her creations!

Gina~ that one is gorge! And Lara I am in LOVE with their stuff, probably my favorite designer!
Somehowcollide - I love the stuff too, especially the picture I posted, however, can you trust them? My friend's mom went to Faraz Manan as a referral from a previous satisfied customer. That is the shocking thing. Apparently, he works with or stays with a girl when visiting the US who said later to my friend's mom "I don't know how you trusted him. He did the same thing to me at my wedding time." It's an odd situation it seems.
Personally, I know of consistent satisfied customers from HSY and Bunto. Maria B gets a lot of good feedback on this board.
I see Nicki & Nina sisters every year at the appna meetings and they are so nice. However, I know someone who ordered a valima outift from them and it came messed up so they had to have a local woman fix it. Of course it looked fab on the valima day but no one knows the story. They just hear it was from Nicki Nina.
I have unmarried siblings and in the next couple years, we hope to be ordering their wedding clothes. It's nice to hear all the experiences so we know who will be dependable and reliable to work with.

Gina - it does seem a little buntoish with the chat patti on the daman of the shirt and all, but i'm also getting a taufique hussain vibe from the dress as well, as if i've seen it somewhere else before?

Lara, I know exactly what you mean; their designs are innovative and fresh but their customer service is stuck in the past! I was set on getting my outfit copied or made by someone who was not such a upscale designer; it just didn't matter to me that much. But when i saw some pieces from Rouge, two in particular, I was IN LOVE. I was willing to spend the big bucks on one of their pieces. But, I received sub par customer service. They were not attentive, they didn't make me feel like they wanted my business. If I am forking over thousands you had better make me feel like the princess that I know I am!
Last time I was in Karachi, I got two formal, party wear outfits made by Maria B. Very fresh, I love them and am complimented all the time. They do have great customer service.
I think part of the problem is that they want western clients but aren't willing to subscribe to western customer service standards. What can you do except live and learn?

Lara, I'll be at the Cali one this year, I wonder if N&N would be present there too, love their designs and want to buy a few. Maybe I'll email them and find out.
Re: Price Points for Designers

Re: Price Points for Designers
hey ayesha i love hsy i think one should have atleast one hsy outfits but when i checked em out to pic out a simple formal outfit i felt they were overpriced, a lil work on teh yold long shirt and they were charging me 30000 for it.
i knwo of a lot of good designers in lahore other than hsy and karma you can also probably check em out. i go to lhr quite often and its an amazing place and teh ppl are wonderful
My hunt for a designer is still on...Bunto is booked so that's out, and if I choose a designer, I'm between Nomi Ansari, Sana Safinaz and Umar Sayeed. I have some random connections to Nomi Ansari and Sana Safinaz, but I'm not totally crazy for Nomi's stuff (its not bad but not to die for, imo) and I've yet to see anything from Sana Safinaz.
Umar Sayeed is AMAZINGGG but so expensive!! I'm wondering if I pay the lower end of his price range, around 3 lakhs, will I even get a nice outfit or something with really minimal kaam?
I'm so frustrated and bummed out! I dont HAVE to go designer at all, but because I'm abroad, it makes things easier cause I won't have to run around and I can trust that the outfit will be ok without necessarily getting references and stuff.
I would love advice from you experienced guppies...anyone else you would recommend for beautiful, unique outfits? Whats the deal with Umar Sayeed? help!
An Umar Sayeed creation (3 lakhs) would still be very pretty.. opt for richer colors, his work is very delicate and pretty. Nilofer Shahid, Sana Safinaz, Karma are alternatives u shud look into as well :)
Re: Price Points for Designers
Out of curiousity...anyone know what the markup is like for designer outfits, whats the profit margin like
Say an outfit is 200,000 ruppees, in general on average, how much of that would be for the purchase of cloth, for stiching, for the one who does kaam, for the designer's fees, etc etc
