“White Ribbon Man of the Year Award 2006 for President Musharraf”
In recognition of the tremendous support to the cause of ‘women rights’ in Pakistan, the White Ribbon Campaign in collaboration with Women’s Empowerment Group International and PIELLEVision 2015 UK have President of Pakistan Pervaiz Musharraf as the “White Ribbon Man of the Year Award 2006”. The announcement has been made to mark the International Day to Eradicate Violence Against Women on 25th November. **Other than taking bold stand on amending the Hudood laws in Pakistan, the government of President Musharraf has introduced interventions like 33% reserved seats for women in politics, 5% quota for women in civil services and legislation on Honor Killing, says a statement issued by the White Ribbon Campaign. ** White Ribbon Campaign is the largest effort in the world of men working to end men’s violence against women. Active male involvement creates an enabling environment for men and women by filling the gender gaps to establish gender balance with modified thinking, attitude and behavior.
The International White Ribbon Campaign was started in 1991 when a handful of men in Canada decided to have a responsibility to urge men to speak out against violence against women. They decided that wearing a white ribbon would be a symbol of men’s opposition to men’s violence against women.

It must be noted that this award was not just for the passing of the Women's protection Bill, but for all the efforts that President Musharraf has made to increase the role of women in Pakistani society since he came to power. As their press statement makes clear - the government of President Musharraf has introduced interventions like 33% reserved seats for women in politics, 5% quota for women in civil services and legislation on Honor Killing.
The following is a list of some of the key reforms that Musharraf made by direct Presidential order, which no previous rulers ever really attempted:-
Hundreds of women have been elected to the Senate and National Assembly, as well the provincial assemblies.
Thousands of women have been elected to the local bodies.
Women have held leading cabinet positions in every Musharraf government.
A woman has been appointed as the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan.
Women have been promoted to even higher ranks in the Pakistan Army than ever before.
We now have a historic number of women pilots in the Pakistan Air Force.
"Honor killings" was first declared as murder by a Presidential order, and then legislation was passed to totally outlaw it.

you dont even know how good he's been for pakistan. I live in pakistan unlike other people in this forum so i know how much pakistan has improved under him. We should praise him.

I am sure this award was given to Mr President on recommendation of Dr Shazia Khalid who was issued the Canadian Visa on directives of our American President Mush.

Mr President is against domestic violence on our women in which she is burnt alive with kerosine oil, for this reason he has raised prices of petrolium and its products too much while in the neighbouring country India where army doesn't pollute the governance system petrol is now 42 rupees per litre while oil companies receive less margin than they have in Pakistan, most probably because oil companies bribe Mr President and his team with millions of dollars.

Seriously, forget the PML but I always wondered why Benazir couldnt get rid of the Hudood laws, I mean she is soo anti-zia, and I know in her heart she really hated this ordinance, but was helpless against it! why, i dont get it.
I often thought there were some things in Pakistan that couldnt be challenged, namely people like Bugti and this cursed ordinance, but president mush restored my faith somewhat! Its a pity those that cry afoul for democracy and criticize him fail to realize that he has done what their 'democratically elected' people failed to do so.

spock, because the motivations were diff, she was focused on herself, and would not take a stand for anything she may hae believed in. president M has shown that he will do what is right even if he faces opposition from religious nuts, ethnic fools, sectarian gits etc.
If you notice for all BBs talk about extremists she did not take steps against sipah sahaba type groups, Pres M did that, and did so way before 9/11 lest someone say it was due to that.

in Pakistan,elected leaders in office for a couple years don't have anything close to the power dictator's have for their many,many years in absolute rule
