Re: President Addressing Nation Now !
Rs610 million aid received so far from pakistani in the President Relief Fund
Re: President Addressing Nation Now !
yeah only if the aid was going to the right place.. I can't believe it that we cant trust our govt even in the hour of need.. when would they stop filling up their banks and do something for their nation :-(
Ask people there in the disaster zone and they will tell you that they are literally living on the aid provided by the people of Pakistan rather than the president's relief fund. :-(
Re: President Addressing Nation Now !
Gemini, what makes you think the money is just sitting in the bank the whole time? I still don't understand why so many people are so eager to blame Musharraf and the army despite everything they have been doing. Look at the vast area and the scope of devastation. They still haven't reached thousands of people cause of bad roads. Getting to the victims with the supplies after clearing the roads for transportation is their top priority! I'm sure they are doing whatever they can.
Why haven't most of the other aid organizations been able to reach, feed and shelter people? PRF isn't the only organization out there taking donations. There are still 500,000 waiting to be reached up in the mountains and pretty much no organization has gotten to them yet.
Re: President Addressing Nation Now !
Does anyone know a good link for live radio. I googled it but they dont play. Other links such as BBC work just fine. Any suggestions.

Re: President Addressing Nation Now !
Mehnaz, I used to be like you and won’t hear a word for Pakistani Govt. but now I have heard so many stories that I feel like i need to change my opinion about Pakistani Govt. I am saying this on the basis of what I am hearing from my family members in Pakistan.. They are helping people in teh disaster zone and the ratio of supplies truck from the Presidents relief fund and pakistani people is about 1 to 10..now that doesn’t mean that President’s relief fund doesn’t have enough supplie but the point is its already being sold out for money.. I am not blaming all of them but there are a few who are corrupting the system but there is no one to raise their voice against them.
Army is definitely doing alot and I am sure things would be worse without the help of army but I am just saying that the aid given out has been misused by the authorities either due to lack of organization or whatever you would call it.
No offence intended at all!

Re: President Addressing Nation Now !
Gemini, I know how corrupt and disgusting the Pakistani government has been in the past. I'm also sure there are a few individuals right now who are doing whatever they can to pocket money/donations ... be it individual citizens that have apparently moved into the area (according to some reports on Geo) or even people within the government. Putting the entire government system down though at THIS moment in time, that I don't agree with. If anything, it is like you have said, a lack of organization ... and I don't think it's because of laziness or a lack of desire to help ... I think it's due to the fact that this earthquake and scope of devastation is just too much for the government alone to handle. Musharraf has even repeatedly said on t.v. that they need as much help as possible cause this not something they are prepared to handle.
I don't mean any offence to anybody. I'm just very tired of the government being bashed from the minute the earthquake happened. It's only been over a week and the weather there has been absolutely terrible, as we all know. It is not like they are just sitting doing nothing. If in a few weeks the money is still just sitting there gathering dust or has mysteriously disappeared and these 500,000 people still need to be reached or those people are dead, THEN we should demand answers. Right now, we need to give them a chance and support every effort they are making. At least that is the way I see it.
If Musharraf has any sense, in the coming weeks, he will provide a breakdown of exactly where the money went for everybody's benefit. We simply do not know where this money is being spent.
Re: President Addressing Nation Now !
There are around 60K dead, more than 100K are injured and missing… around 2.5 million homes were destroyed…
To build one home we need at least 1 Million RS…
Fro 2.5 millions homes = 1 million x 2.5 millions = 2.5 ^11 RS
Similarly
For medical =?
For fuel used in helicopters and other vehicles =?
For Food =?
For emergency shelter, clothes, tents =?
To rebuild Government offices, schools, colleges, hospitals, universities =?
To rebuild, roads, rails, bridges=?
And so on so…
Please keep in mind that not all the money is going in pockets of victims or not victims, there is lot to do for rehabilitations …please be patient, wait and have trust in Pakistani administration and Pak armed forces. They have plans and you will see soon…
Re: President Addressing Nation Now !
Somehow I am convinced that in times of disaster most people in responsible positions do their best to allieviate suffering. The number who steal from the mouths of starving children are really very few. There is plenty of time for corruption later. Most frustration, whether it is in a hurricane in the US, or a Tsunami, or an earthquake is an irrational desire on the part of man to be larger than God and Nature. Nature will always humble us. We can never be totally prepared for the dimensions of disasters.
The horror of the earthquake in Pakistan is almost unimaginable. Yet a similar earthquake in Karachi or Los Angeles would dwarf today's toll. A worldwide pandemic is still a very real possibility, either today or in the forseeable future. That would dwarf even the largest earthquake imaginable. We are still very vulnerable fragile beings, and we always will be...

I like the way people are throwing out allegations of corruption without any proof at all ![]()
