Did we ever have any “proof” against Benazir or Asif Zardari on their corruption? Even though Zardari was notorious as Mr 10% but still no proof! Anyway, there will definitely be some corruption, I have no doubts about that, but I think that major part of govt machinery is working in rescue/relief of the victims.

2 words. Swiss Court.
The corruption in Bhutto’s government was widely known and tied to specific cases and contracts. The individuals pocketing money were named as well and in 1996 convictions were made against Zardari.

Swiss Court cases were only of "international" level I believe, involving SGS Cotecna (?)... other corruption cases were not proved.

corruption is the religion paki-politicians believe in whole-heartly. no matter wht the situation is, they will find a way/two to warm-up their own pockets. i'm sure for every chuwani they will use to help the victims, they will keep an athani for a rainy-day.

Mehnaz is right (mainly because she is agreeing with me). People stop bashing the government and Musharraf. If you have to bash Mushy, there are plenty of other reasons, earthquake relief is not one of them. Pak govt has done an excellent job.

Dada abba. i know you said 1 million, and I know many people from mansehra and kaghaan who cannot imagine to save a million ruppees in their live times, and they had houses there before the quake (they were not ancestoral homes and don't say, look what happened to those places), 1 million is a very high estimate. We are not talking about buliding houses in a city here, we are talking about simple houses with strong structures without imported tiles and all.

Looks like I was on drugs…hmm I said money will be spend by Government of Pakistan in form of funds they got from all sources… period!
People, who lost, will not have to worry about thier houses and house holds… this is responsibility of Govt. and they are working on it already, to provide pre-fabricated houses project with first class facilities is thier goal . They will make it like a compound and will provide all basic facilities required for a small community.
They will encourage industrialist to invest in those places so people can get jobs.
Govt have to build hospitals, government offices, schools, colleges, universities, Masajids, libraries and so on so… in fact jail building as well…
So, all the money is not going in pockets of victims or not victims… they have things to do
PS: why those victims or not victims are re-selling goods that were given to them for their use? Shameful that is…

Gemini, i know where you are coming from BUT let me tell you what President has said in his last speech couple of days ago, he clearly said that " We have NOT spent anything from relief fund as yet, we are carrying out all the relief efforts using our own funds and ALL the money collected will be spent on the rehabilition process, he promised to build planned houses for all affected people. He also said that all the orphans are government's responsibilty and they would NOT allow adoptation.
To be honest, he keeps his promises and i have no doubt that he will do the BEST for affected people. Yes we have corrupt people everywhere but Musharraf in my opinion will definitely fulfill his promises.

Give him a chance i would say.
I can understand this is not a easy mission. Just to get to the people is a major task in itself and with all those aftershocks and torrential rains .. it is a bit difficult, but they have been doing what they can- reaching out with helicopters.
AND - do we have any other choice ? If we have a leader (whatever his ability or capability) he should be allowed to LEAD.
Shall we let Qazi or Fazlur Rehman or Altaf Hussain take over the country and hope that they will solve all problems at the snap of a finger ?

problems are different from disasters. problem-wise mushy has done nothing so far. all he can do is dish out bongay bayan and nothing else. name 1 problem that he has solved to this day? he's been in power for a good 6-7 years now. thats more than an elected government.
