Re: prepping for pregnancy
aishii, not preggo yet, but hoping to be before the year ends iA!
if you can figure out when you are ovulating and then time your vacation around it, you might just hit the jackpot! its funny because just yesterday i was reading this article on “conceptionmoons” Conceptionmoons: Can a vacation help you get pregnant? | BabyCenter
Re: prepping for pregnancy
lol nice article, thank u! unfortunately my cycle has started to shorten (dont know why that is) so its become difficult to predict when i will be ovulating..i didnt want to but i think i might invest in a ovulating kit, if anyones tried any let me know
inshallah you will have good news soon, duas and hugs for u xx
Re: prepping for pregnancy
^ friends or ours did really well with the ovulation kit. i think you pee on the stick and it tells you what the deal is.
alternatively, if you keep track of the starting date of your periods, you should be able to get a pretty good idea of when you ovulate.
Re: prepping for pregnancy
^ Just be careful with the ovulation kits. If you notice positives several days in a row, there may be a concern due to elevated LH. This is a common problem in women with PCOS.
Keeping track of periods helps, SGC, but many women ovulate early or late or have varying length follicular and luteal phases. Day 14 of the cycle isn't reliable. Monitoring basal body temperature and cervical mucus can give you better clues for when you are ovulating, but many women need to be trained in how to do this.
aishii -- the clearblue fertility monitor is the one that I've heard about, but I have not tried it myself.

Hey Aishi...thats whats happened with me and its become lighter too...its wierd....so im going to have a blood test too to out rule a cyst or anything..maybe you should ask your doc for a normal blood test too..apparently if you do have any cyst (Allah reham kare) then it should come out in the hormone biomarkers in the blood test.....
Re: prepping for pregnancy
i think couples should just do it all the time whenever possible. math never did anyone good cept einstein maybe and i dont think he got laid all that much.
so dont suck the life outta all the fun.
just wondering if there are any tips/tricks/hints all you moms and dads could pass on to help those of us who are prepping for baby?
i'm hitting the gym 3-5 days a week, taking my multivitamins and folic acid, and trying to eat better and not stress over every little thing. i'm also trying to be regular with prayers.
what else could i/should i be doing? are there any tips i could share with my husband?
and exactly how much folic acid do i need- i mean, should i take it for 3 months or 4 or what?
I would say also try and get calcium in yoursystem. You can call your doctor's office if you like and aks them if you can have extra calcium supplements. Truth is regular multivitmains are not just enough calcium wise. I always make sure to take extra supplements for calcium (when I didn't my teeth were awful after birth, yes you can eat well during pregnnacy too but if you are one of the few women who get sick during pregnnacy and can't eat much it helps lots). Ask your doc!
Just make sure not to over excercise, oh and eat veggies and fruits too.
You did mention about going to the doctor for your pre conecpetion visits, if they didn't do any blood work to check for your blood levels now's the time to see if you are anemic and take care of it. Lots of women get anemic anways during pregnancy and if you start off anemic you might feel weaker and so forth. Also, visit the dentist prior to the pergnancy, its a must, just tell them you are trying to concieve so they are careful with x-rays etc. Its ok to go to the dentist if you are pregnant anyways. If you are not immune to measels talk to the doc about getting a Rubella vaccine (might have to wait a few months before getting pregnnat if you get vaccinated).
Good luck!!

sahar, i agree the 14 day thing is not for every woman, but keeping track of your periods will help you at least have a better concept of when you should be trying- it might not be day 14, it could be 15, 16, 17 but it is usually two or two and a half weeks after the first day of your period.
as for cervical mucus- once you know what to watch for, its dead easy to pick up on. basically, when the discharge is white and stretchy and translucent, almost like egg whites, that's when you're ovulating. as an early indicator of ovulation, a few days prior to it, your discharge increases and is more of a solid colour- when you see that, it should be your cue to get busy!

Actually if the guy has low sperm count, then doing it everyday could actually hinder them in conceiving, they should be doing it at most every other day to give time for the sperm count to build up, and even abstain for at least a few days in the period leading up to the fertile days, for optimal sperm count!
Girls, I have also heard that full fat dairy is very important when you are TTC. If you dont want to drink 1-2 glasses of homogenized milk a day, then get it through cheese, yogurt etc

From what Ive read, if your luteal phase (after ovulation and before next period) is less than 11 days, it might be difficult for you to get pregnant, or to stay pregnant. Vitamin B6 is supposed to help with lengthening the luteal phase. Most multivitamins and prenatal pills donot have enough B6, so you can take it seperately. I take a B6 pill daily that has a dosage of 100mg, in addition to my folic acid. BTW make sure your hubby is also taking a multivitamin and eating well, to ensure he is healthy and in good shape
Before you try an ovulation kit, maybe just try charting your basal body temperature and at the same time, monitoring your cervical fluid. Charting will let you determine if you are in fact ovulating, when your ovulation is occuring and how long your luteal phase is. Charting combined with monitoring your cervical fluid, you will get a good idea of when it the best time to make a little miracle inshallah!! Its amazing how much out body tells us, if only we pay attention!
I know it can be stressful sometimes, especially each month when you feel soooo sure that you are pregnant, only to get your period the next day!! But we just have to remember that its all in the Hands of Allah and He does whatever is best! Inshallah when its time for us all, He will bless with what our hearts desire. We can just try our best and continue to always make dua and then just wait patiently to see what happens!
Re: prepping for pregnancy
If you are taking a prenatal vitamin (which contains folic acid), do you have to also take Folic Acid separately?
Re: prepping for pregnancy
^Most over the counter prenatals have like half the amount many OBs recommend. I remember my OB had me take a prescription prenatal, with higher folic acid and some other vitamins.

Thanks! do you know the amount of folic acid we should be getting, so then I can check the label on my prenatal, and get a separate pill if needed?
Re: prepping for pregnancy
