My Pakistani friend went through Infertility treatment and is now pregnant with triplets. She is scared as hell and does not feel she can handle 3 at once. The doctor suggested going with the reduction process. But Islamically and ethically, she feels it is not right to do that. But don’t you think if it is conern of her health it would be okay to have a reduction even under Islamic laws??? She asked me to give her mashwara but honestly I did not want to say anything as i don’t want to be responsible for the choice she makes. What do you guys think???

How long since the triplets were conceived? If it's been over 40 days, I encourage her not to abort any because it could be murder... if it's over 120 days it would be murder.

Risky to abort them now unless doctors say having all 3 is a risk to her health . One hadith suggests that they have a soul after 40 days, though another says 120.
Terminating a child for fear of not being able to handle providing for them is infanticide and a serious sin.

yes but the doctor has mentioned that starting from her second trimester she will have to be on complete bedrest. Also, he said there is a risk of the babies having problems because of small space and 3 growing babies.

I believe the rule goes that the only way in which abortion is permitted is if the birth will hurt the life of the mother. If its possible she could die during the process (I don't really know what else could happen), then she can make the choice to abort.
If the risk is to the health of the child, then abortion can't take place for that reason alone. If any one of her babies is abnormal in any way, she has to deal with it.
Tell her to do lots of dua if she does decide to go for it.
Women have triplets all the time - even petite women.
Best thing to do would go to more learned people with this issue, and see what they have to say.

from what i understand, the bigger problem is not that the bearing of three kids will affect the mom's health, but that these three kids will have an impact on each other. With three kids in one small womb, there will be space restriction -certainly since she's only 5'2- and that can/may cause major harm to one of the three childs-----from nothing at all to oxygen distress to even fetal death. So the question is, if she is allowed to abort one, in order to save two......or go for the three and perhaps end up with none or only one?
Mahru, I'm sure she has a gynaec who can tell her more than all of us here together.

though its not very easy raising ebnormal kids .. is it ??? ive a cousin whos just deaf and speechless due to some infection he had in his infancy age .. trust me it wasnt very easy for his parents !!!

I think you need to give her confidence rather than thinking up excuses on how she can abort. Allah has put three babies in her womb and trust me Allah knows better than us if they can servive or not.. just ask her to pray and may Allah give her all the strength to have three beautiful babies inshaAllah. support her don't scare her its tough time for her..

Your being there for her, to listen and be supportive is good medicine for her.
There are so many wondrous things that medical science can do these days ... if her docs feel that she is able to carry all 3 to term or near term and that all 3 are growing normally then just give her the emotional support that she'll need in facing the overwhelming responsibility of 3 babies. It will be truly crazy for her ...but then again, she would have a complete family, all 3 growing up together which is a blessing. Be done with diapers all at the same time etc. I have 3 that are very close in age and in many ways it really is very nice.
If there are medical issues then she's got some horribly tough decisions to make. Just be there for her no matter what she decides. What Ansoon said is really very nice but then again ... Allah is the one who gave humankind the ability to advance medical science, right? So if the docs say that one should be aborted so that the others can live, who's to say that this is what Allah intended or not? She and her hubby need to make the decisions themselves and just being supportive of her is what a true friend will do.

Ok every one step aside. Here comes the father of the three most beautiful girls(triplets) in the whole world. Mahru, tell your friend she will be ok, it may seem impossible in the begining but everything will turn out ok.
My wife is 5' 6" and petite. She was able to carry the girls up to 32 weeks. In our case, it was a surprise (meaning no IV or foreign aid needed). Yes they were born way early, but with the grace of Allah, prayers from my family, and a lot of hard work on the part of my wife, everything turned out fantastic. Having said that, if the doctor thinks that mother's life may be in danger, she should consider reduction, if not, than form my personal standpoint....just carry the little ones as long as she can.

i think its better if you contact a mufti in your area who will be able to assess her and her situation and give her the right advice on what she should do. do this asap!
