Pregnancy Pains?

i just wanted to ask all the mothers out there about their pregnancy experience and labour…was it really as bad as people make it out to be? what would a true comparison of the pain be?..whats the worst/best time…anything else you’d like to share with someone whos planning on having a baby in the near future?

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

You should read birth stories in Parenting forum.

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

The labor pains are worse than anything you can imagine :hinna: We cannot describe it in words… but then you see your little one and get to hug and hold him/her and its all TOTALLY worth it as they’re growing up

As far as pregnancy is concerned, my first one was great except for the nausea, the second one is definitely tougher, hopefully the delivery will be easier than the first time (InshaAllah)

If you’re planning on having a baby, start taking pre-natal vitamins already and eat healthy. Your pregnancy will go much easier if you’re not working full-time, as your body starts craving more sleep… it will be harder if you’re working full-time.

P.S. Some of the birth stories in the parenting forum are scary :bummer:

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

will do,thanks :)

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

regarding pre-natal vitamins…are you talking about folic acid or others too? you see im a pharmacist myself but I hate taking any sort of medicines…i know it doesnt make sense…but I try to avoid meds altogether…as far as folic acid is concerned…i was thinking of starting taking it during pregnancy and not before it…what do u think? and from personal experiences when did people start taking folic acid…?

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

^I'm talking about pre-natal vitamins that contain all of the essential vitamins plus folic acid. Unless you have a well-balanced diet and are getting all essential vitamins through your food, it would be better to take pre-natals. I am Vitamin D deficient and man, that takes a toll on your body if you don't take that during pregnancy. I have experienced it first-hand during my first pregnancy when my wrist bones actually started hurting, plus I would get those awful cramps in my legs which are not occurring this time as I'm taking a Vitamin D supplement in addition to my pre-natals, on my OB/GYN's recommendation .

You also need more Iron and Calcium during pregnancy, so its definitely better to take the pre-natals. As far as I know these three are essential.... Folic acid, Iron and Calcium.

OB/GYNs recommend starting the pre-natal vitamins before you start TTC, although I don't know why :p

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

Regardless of all the pain and stuff this is the most amazing experience one can have, and joy of seeing your kid is a bonus on top of that.

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

^^ I don't know why this thread is here.

But MIAinVA, its weird that my OB/GYN didn't stress on pre-natal vitamins. Is there a specific reason? Are some women required to take it compared to others

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

So im not a mom, but a friend of mine who recently had a baby said to me "You really dont want to hear the story. It'll just scare you, its not that bad when u'r going through it, and everyones stories are different. Dont let em mess up your head "

So...maybe its not a good idea for you to be reading em, esp. if theyre scary. Just pray IA that everything turns out well :)

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

Really? All OB/GYNs that I've spoken to stress on them, unless yours talked about folic acid and stressed on that :) You definitely need more folic acid, iron and calcium in pregnancy than in normal days. Baaqi vitamins are optional I believe.

I'm taking extra Vitamin D supplements cuz my bones were hurting :( My OB/GYN did a test and said you're really deficient, need 2000 IU per day.

My MIL had 8 kids, never took any vitamins or calcium and poor her got Osteoporosis at age 50 plus she has Arthritis in her spine too. Better to take the supplements now than suffer later due to deficiencies as the babies take a big chunk of nutrients out of your body when they are developing inside you and being nursed by you.

Yeah, she's right... those stories will just scare the H*** outta you. As long as there are no complications, you forget it all later and its all TOTALLY worth it :)

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

I didn't take pre-natal vitimans during the pregnancy instead had a balanced diet because I got very nauseaus when I took pre-natal vitimans..

As for the labor pain goes I don't think you can describe that pain but it's all worth it at the end :) Yeah, read the birth stories in parenting section you'll get an idea!

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

My mom scares the hell out of me when she says the labour pains r 100X worse then period pain. That really freaks me out :(.

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

Being pregnant and giving birth is totally different for each and every woman what might work for you may not work for another woman. Both of my pregnancies were great alhamdullilah. I was only nauseous in the first trimester and from then on was fine. During the last 2 weeks though i was tired and heavy and not able to do much. The birth experience was for me alhamdullilah again something extraordinary. Both times my labour was quick and natural so I was relieved about that.

I started taking pre-natal vitamins when we started to concieve and then throughout my pregnancy. I took Pregnacare- i dont know if that is available where you are but i had to take one tablet a day it contains folic acid plus all other vitamins nutrients that you need.

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

what is TTC ?

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

^ trying to conceive.

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

oh oki. Thanks.

so the next q. is .. does guys also start pre-natal vitamins for TTC ?

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

I'm pretty sure not.

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

Osteoporosis is more caused by the menopause and change of hormones....i didnt know it was caused by lack of vitamins during pregnancy?

as far as vitamins are concerned, i personally believe in only taking them if there's a deficiency. otherwise if you have a healthy and varied diet with all the vitamins etc in the diet itself....then i wouldnt personally like to take vitamin supplements. too much of vitamins are bad for you as well....so its important to keep a balance.

Re: Pregnancy Pains?

^^ Wrong

What MIAinVA is stressing on is what pretty much every doctor stress on. Women lose a big chuck of nutrients from their body after the baby is born. Its important to take vitamins and other good stuff when pregnant. A lot of time just a good balanced diet is not enough because your body is developing a baby inside you.

Also what she said about Osteoporosis is right. Sometimes negligence can cause all kind of deficiencies in our body after delievery.
