Pregnancy in Ramadan

Ramadan Mubarak to all my sisters here!!!

May we all have a blessed Ramadan! Ameen

I would like to hear from those ladies who have already been through their pregnancies in Ramadan and if they did go through with fasting how did you ladies do it?

I don’t have a plan as to how to go about this or what to eat and do but I do plan on fasting insh’Allah

so please ladies share your stories and what’s the best way to fast and what to eat

Jazak’Allah Khair, it would be much help!

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

Well I'm about 8 weeks along and fasting for the first time while pregnant today. So far so good - As long as I don't throw up I think I should be good. I'm going to try and fast as much as I can.

It was hard to eat this morning cause I was really nauseous, my MIL suggested drinking boost in the morning along with whatever I can keep down.

Inshallah I hope to fast throughout but I'm still going to be cautious of how I'm feeling, If I start to feel weak or dizzy I won't hesitate to take a day off.

Good Luck Dusk, how far along are you ?

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

I was at the beginning of my 2nd trimester and did not fast last year. I felt that more than anything, the reduced water intake would be very problematic and unsafe.

I am not fasting while nursing either.

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

No offense to anyone but if Allah miyaan has given you the option not to fast when you're pregnant, why do you refuse to make use of that aasaani..... IMHO its like refusing a gift from someone who loves you and hurting his feelings.

I didn't fast during my first pregnancy, also didn't fast while nursing my daughter and this time with my second pregnancy also I'm not fasting as Allah has given the option to sick people, pregnant women and lactating mothers to not fast and make up for it later.

Ramadan mubarak to you too :)

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

^ I completely agree that if you're not able to you shouldn't. But I feel good so far and will as much as I can and feel I feel that at any point I'm being unsafe I won't.

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

Thats good and I don’t want to discourage anyone from fasting but who knows what effect that has on the development of the feotus… there are just too many factors involved. Here’s a useful link I found for those who chose to fast … good luck ladies  BabyCentre UK | The Most Accurate & Trustworthy Pregnancy & Parenting Information  | BabyCentre

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

Ramsha, just talk to your doc and make sure you're getting enough fluids and calories.

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

**Ramsha: **I am 18 weeks so Alhamdulilah I am past the morning sickness stage. I actually didn't have a problem eating lol. I had some naan with aloo gosht and a plate of yogurt. Insh'Allah I wish you luck sister and may Allah(Swt) help you. But yes if at any point you feel like you can not do it or it's not safe for the baby then don't do it at all and just wait for afterwards insh'Allah.

**Sahar: **That's good, whatever is best for you and your baby :)

**MIAinVA: **Ofcourse sister you are absolutely correct. I really wanted to fast though and I am going to give it a try, if at any point I sense that it won't be working with my body or my baby I will stop instantly. Otherwise I will try my best to fast and insh'Allah the rest is with Allah(azzawajal). Allah will keep my baby healthy and his/her nutrients and everything will be provided to him/her :) .

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

i m 16 weeks.............. no morning sickness........... but i m not fasting...........as it is v hot here need 2 have lot of water bc my doc told me my urine is getting concentrated bc of lack of water........... n from last 2 weeks i m feeling v hungry after every 2 hrs i had 2 take something

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

I thought I could do it but after today I don't know that I can, it wasn't really the hunger that bothered me....I wasn't really hunger but was dehydrated. So no more fasting for me which is a bummer but I need to do whats best for the baby.

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

That was my feeling. Water is really critical and it certainly not worth risking the health and safety of the child. Dehydration in pregnancy can lead to all sorts of issues.

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

I am a lil over 8 weeks and I won't be fasting either. Sucks. This will be my first ramadan where I won't be fasting at all. I wanted to fast but because I've fainted once and get extermely sick every now and then, I just won't be able to.

However, I am going to do full two meals for at least one needy/poor person if not more.

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

Very good advice. It's not worth risking the child's and mother's health.

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

I know someone who got so severely dehydrated because of her rozas (she was pregnant) that she had to be rushed to hospital and was given drips for 2 days.

what is the use of risking your own and baby’s health ? when Almighty Allah has given you the flexibility then use it. Please don’t take risk …you and your baby are very precious :flower1:

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

The article posted at babycentre was pretty informative, Jizak Allah Khair.

A pregnant woman is the best judge of what she's going through, and she should not take any risks whatsoever.

But if one feels fine, then its up to them to fast or not. Personally the thought of making up 30 fasts seems too much for me...

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

^ Same, especially given the length of rozas these days. Perfectly healthy adults with only themselves to feed are having a hard time!

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

I'd be worried about getting dehydrated and the amniotic fluid running low or not being replenished properly esp since rozas are so long, that may bring along its own complications
If it was winters, and I was in my second (honeymoon) trimester, I probably would've considered.
Really want to fast the last 10 days though!

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

i'm 24 weeks and definitely unable to fast. i feel guilty eating but i have to keep reminding myself that Allah won't be angry at me for making sure my baby is well nourished. infact, its a bit more selfish, imo, to fast in hopes of rewarding yourself with sawab but ignoring the baby's needs despite Allah's permission to give baby priority over all else.

Re: Pregnancy in Ramadan

I meant making up the fasts later on, as in after Ramadan

I did some research and from what i read, simply being pregnant is not reason enough to not fasts. There has to be sound advice (from a doctor)/ fear that fasting will in fact cause harm to the mother or baby.
