okay girls (and guys) I really need your help on this one.
I have a close friend who is pregnant. Beautiful girl she is - but there is a huge complex of some sort pertaining to weight managment. Now she’s pregnant and afraid of not being able to get rid of it later. So she’s been living her pregnant life on salads and whatever at night (which I think means nothing most nights due to nausea)- I think she tries to get in some fruits and what not but often forgets her milk or calcium intake. On top of all this she’s anemic!
Now the result is that she is 5 months pregnant and ALREADY can’t carry herself around or sleep at night due to fatigue. I am so sure its because her body is not getting the right mix of protien and carbs.. I know her carb intake is extremely low.
Can someone please knock some sense into her! I think she is super tired of me yelling at her all the time. I am not trying to play mom nor am I an expert BUT I know she needs to get over this. HELP
1- someone suggest a tried quideline to the right mix of carbs/protien/good fats in a meal
2- give her ideas on how to gain energy
3- how to sleep better
4- please share your post pregnancy weightloss expierences
2% milk- lots and lots of it. also, yogurt, coconut water, dates (khujoor), kalonji are known to be very beneficial also. when it comes to gaining weight, it is recommended that instead of eating for two, just eat for one but eat healthy.
p.s- i am not a mommy yet but i have seen all my aunts follow strict diets.
Should intake calcium each day in the form of milk/cheese/yogurt/brocolli and worst case a calcium pill or chewable. What helped me were TUMS with additional calcium, helps ease heartburn/nausea at the same time while providing a good dose of calcium supplement.
She should discuss her Anemia with her Ob-Gyn, Im sure she already has because the doctor provides you iron supplements she should take each day, its vital to her baby's development and her own health. I was also anemic during pregnancy and aside from the iron in the pre-natals, I was given an extra Iron dosage. I would recommend she takes the iron right before sleeping, so its easier to digest & she wont get nauseous from it.
The doctor provides a food chart, similar to the food pyramid that advises what kinds of food she should be eating, and you modify based on weight gain....like I was gaining too much so I was on a strict diet. But she could generally avoid rice/potatoes...simple sugars & carbs. But as you mentioned eat in balance. Major portion of meal should be protein, then some carb & also a little bit of healthy fat should be in there for healthy baby development. If she insists on salad, maybe she can ensure she has tuna/chicken/shrimp some meat/protein source in it as well as a little bit of of carbs, maybe a whole grain breadstick? Drink lotsss of water....avoid caffeine...minimal sugar/salt. Think positive thoughts and indulge kabhie kabhie. Also she should do a lot of walking, stretching that is feasible for a pregnant lady.
Ok tell her this....If she does not have enough calcium intake, the baby going to take calcium from her own body's stores. So she going to end up having brittle bones, weak teeth, dull nails and probly lose her straight posture after delivery. (yeah it can happen in the event of severe calcium deficiency)
So this absolutely no time for her to be all fussy and finnicky. Salads gonna make her so gassy she will be embarassed so go easy on that.
She must get the proper nutrients for baby. There is nothing more heartbreaking than to see a lil tiny underweight baby who is susceptible to so many problems straight after birth.
sleepless nights have nothing to do with her fatigue or eating habbits....
...now she is gonna have many sleepless nights until the baby is born....or even after the baby is born....
muniya yaar…u know of my experience with that doctor, should have told her to look for a better doctor who is a bit kinder. Anyways, yeah she provided me with papers, like a whole food chart/pyramid, with stuff from each food group & stuff that should be eaten. She should insist on asking Dr. for guidance. And dont listen to her when she says eat whatever u want, eat mihtai!!!..hehe You have to stay on top of her, and insist when you don’t get your way. Anyways she really should not be so focused on her figure right now, key is being healthy for the baby…like someone said, calcium is crucial to development of the baby’s bone…otherwise it will be extracted from her bones…and she will be prone to osteoporosis later in life i think..not sure.
Anyways tell her to check out www.babycenter.com & make an account. It is a wonderful site & really helped me throughout pregnancy, they send you a weekly update e-mail that approximates where you are in pregnancy, symptoms you may be feeling…what’s normal, not normal, things to expect, how to manage pregnancy…etc…tons of info.
Unless that person lives in JC and has no other options, she may try that Dr Irani I hear good things about. Even Dr. Khalak I think is decent from what I hear.
hey hin, what's panjeeri? I know after birth my khala tried to feed me this weird mixture of sooji, and all sorts of nuts, pista type stuff all ground up and told me i should eat some each day,. with a cup of milk. It was ewww.
oh yeah as for the topic yeah i think she really needs like 300 extra calories a day....just make she eats healthy & balanced nutrients...she should be fine
Afro I told her about the dr. but you know some people dont want to listen. She’s definately one of them. She’ll knod you to death but only do what she wants to. Anything to shut me up. I told her about Dr khaleq and Irani - but this is convenient to her.
You know your mom and khala made me eat that mixture to -
honestly it did help after the miscarriage.

to me post partum weight is kinda like this.. the quicker u lose it .. the easier is it.. if you wait for like a few monthsss.. it tends to settle in..
yeah she is convenient if ur in JC. But I dunno she should be prepared to be dissapointed...but I will say despite her being rude...medically she is very competent and is very careful with all the tests etc. But I highly recommend that website, i think its awesome. Now that S is born, it now sends me weekly updates as to where my Toddler might be on the growth spectrum...and all things a baby of his age would be up to by now, lot sof recommendations etc.
Hey I need a good doctor now, any recommendations?
I hated that panjeeri crap...they even got M to try to talk me into eating it!!!! He would be like but its good for you....uff...hehe...
hin ur probably right!!! i wiated to lose it after c-section, and i just cant seem to get rid of my weight, seems i keep gaining. Sooo weird. Before being pregnant I was a bit of a toothpick to say...I would eat anything and everything, and barely gain weight. Everyone would make fun of me how skinny I am....and now? hehe. I feel like im expanding each day :(
IT was GOOD FOR YOU!!!
I'd lost a ton of blood adn wasn't able to walk properly until your mom told mine about that- DUDE a week and I was sitting up straight and getting up on my own.
Try Dr. Irani - she's really good.
Not that far from JC like 20 minutes
