pregnancy and fasting

is it safe to fast whilst ur pregnant? considering doctors do recommend u go on no diet or start counting calories… do u think its ok?

Re: pregnancy and fasting

no...it's not ok. even in islam you are not supposed to fast during pregnancy. you can make up for them after the birth of the child.

medically, it is very dangerous for the child, as you can deprive the child of important nutrients, not to mention proper hydration. also, some of the build up of chemicals, as the body needs sources for energy could be potentially harmful

Re: pregnancy and fasting

My sister fasted during her both pregnancies and everything for fine ..both mother and the babies.. my take.. its up to and individual.. if you think you can handle it than you should do it...

Re: pregnancy and fasting

^ was she working at the same time?

I dunno, i find if my bubz doesnt get food, she goes crazy.... either she wont move at all or she'll pull so hard that i cant do anything..

a cousin of mine whose at the same stage as me is fasting... but then again, she's not working full-time either..

Re: pregnancy and fasting

I agree with khumar. Sadz don't fast, you can make up for these fasts latter on or you can send money for the sehri and aftari of poor people.

Re: pregnancy and fasting

i agree, its something about taking risk...though you can give money to poor women and babies just to supplement....
it is not obligatory in islam to fast during pregnancy..

but if u have heart for fasting and u can handle than go ahead..

good luck

Re: pregnancy and fasting

Isn't that a clear sign that you shouldn't be fasting then?

Re: pregnancy and fasting

Sadz,

I am in the same boat as you. In my 7th month and I am unable to fast. I feel bad and want to fast but my doctor strongly advised against it. Especially the diet you eat and maintain throout the day is very important for the baby. I sent hadiya to paki. If I am able to after the birth, Inshallah than I will make up as many days as possible...not sure when id be able to do that. I am also working full time still, so its really difficult to fast.

Re: pregnancy and fasting

You shouldn't fast in pregnancy. Everything changes about your body, including your circulation and hydration needs. God forbid your blood sugar gets low and you faint or something. If Allah has given us that rahmat of not having to fast while pregnant, then take advantage of it. You can always make them up later.

Re: pregnancy and fasting

Give hadiya to Edhi foundation or a local mosque....You're not really required to fast in this condition...when you fast your baby has to fast also and she is no way required to go through such a thing, not according to Islam at least. :)

Re: pregnancy and fasting

yes you are right Afro-Sheen

Re: pregnancy and fasting

Okay I don't mean to be rude but I don't know how you girls can ask questions about such sensitive issues on gupshup when no one has a certified medical degree, yes there are women who have been pregnant but that doesn't mean they have knowledge that your own physician can provide. I think one of these days someone is going to take advice from an wannabe doctors on gupshup and get hurt.

Re: pregnancy and fasting

lolz

Re: pregnancy and fasting

I agree 100%.

sadzzz, please consult a doctor in this matter.

Re: pregnancy and fasting

well just logged in and read that u r preggy! congratulations :-) hope everything goes well for you and the lil one.

Re: pregnancy and fasting

Absolutely agree. I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to when pregnant, and if you’ve been excused, why take the chance of hurting the child?

Re: pregnancy and fasting

belle, i was merely asking peoples views on the matter.. im not about to go fast (or not fast) due to someone's opinion on here...

i wanted to know how people feel about it... not whether i should go fast...

anyways, thanks everyone else for ur views.. :)

Re: pregnancy and fasting

woooooooooooooow woman y r u after puttin the life of baby’s at risk? HELLL NO dont even think about dieting or fasting! Like everyone said in Islam its not mandatory to fast during pregnancy. Baby start developing in week 2! Thats how senstive this case is. Brain start developing by day 25/27, during which you should keep in mind what u take in and what not. Just keep eating healthy food (folic acid) insha’allah all will be well :k:

Re: pregnancy and fasting

I will pray for the baby ... I will pray for the woman that may she get her head straight back in her skull!! wat an idiot .. apnay saath saath baby ki life she is jeapordizing!

Re: pregnancy and fasting

Sadz....
Allah (SWT) has made it easy on you by excusing you from your fasts while pregnant.... For Allah is most compassionate.

Just pay money to feed one person per fast missed.....it's that simple.
