*"Some old arab/persian lady." *

"'m bashing an old lady who thinks she knows everything."

So? Why you keep mentioning the fact that she is old? seems like you are stereotyping her as a rigid, self-righteous, closed-minded "old" crone, just like you stereotyped the entire desi male as being arrogant and supercilious about religion (based on a comment by AQ)

"At first I thought she was telling me to salute the mosque...at which point I sorta **snapped **at her with a **fake* smile and said "No, I wasn't taught to do that. I was taught that you shouldn't read any prayer while the khutba is going on - rather, you should listen to the khutba. But thanks""*

may be she meant "respect" the masjid, which is after all Allah's house, and said "salute" at loss of word. I am almost 100% sure english wasnt her mother toungue. So, a little patience would be nice, unless of course she kept badgering you.

"Calling someone a rooster is not name-calling"

perhaps, it's a metaphor?no, wait a simile?..gosh darn what is it...??

"So she's proud and she thinks that just because she's older, she's right!"

no, comment on this one. You are obvviouly having a bad day on Venus.

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

This girl has some serious issues.

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

Rally, the answer to that question is very clear in my posts. Learn to read.

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

The Question was asked in reference to your query that who decided what’s sunnah and what’s nafil

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

No, that was not my question. My question went deeper than that. Apparently you did not understand.

And nothing I've raised here has anything to do with the Quran, nor am I using the argument of "why isnt it in the Quran" etc etc. The Quran is not even part of this discussion. So no, don't confuse this with a Hadith vs. Quran debate. That's not what this is.

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

PCG: you are not understanding... You are getting it all wrong... there is a reason I am asking you a direct question. Kindly answer that please :)

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

I don't even understand what it means!

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

I wish you could. That would have helped me answer your query far better  anyway… good luck with your question.:flower1:

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

Agar aap ko answer hi nahin karna tha, tho bhas keh hi dehtay. I asked the question first, you should have the tameez to just answer it. But if you don't wish to its ok. I'm sure its a hard question. I don't think I have an answer to it myself.

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

Guys, chill. Does anyone realize that the purpose of this discussion is long gone now and only thing left is mud slinging left and right ?

I like how Faisal got out of this thread as soon as it went south, a wise man indeed.

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

It’s really important for you to understand who delcared a nafil, nafil and sunnah as sunnah.. If you will know how an ayah was considered to be an ayah, you will know what is the answer to your query. anyway, what I know is that there is no rule to decalre the part of the sentence as ayah. Ayaahs are not logical sentences that end at the point where the sentence ends. An ayah is told by Prophet:saw: and it truely depends on Rasoolulah:saw: telling us about the ayah. For example, ALif Laam Meem is an ayah and so is ayat-ul-Bir which consists of several sentences but it’s an ayah.

Similarly, your question about who declares it, it is a common understanding that Fardh, Waajib, Sunnah, Nawaafil are termed by Prophet:saw: himself and we know it for many narrators of ahaadeeth among Sahaaba Ridhwaanullah ALiyehay Ajma’een reported about such and then Muhaddatheen recorded such reports in the Books.

Wallah-O-Alam

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

I don't see how your response has any relevance to my question.

I want to know that if a hadith terms things categorically - meaning all have to do it no exceptions - and it uses language that would indicate its asking you to do something obligatory...

then where does naafil come in.

Then there must be some hadith that says these rakats are naafil. Or at least that they're not necessary. Is there such a hadith?

Re: Praying Salute to the Mosque?

wasnt that the answer ?
