Praying on dargahs & shrines

Do dead people have the power to get you what you want in life? It kind of sounds silly to me.

Elections in Pakistan, prayers at Ajmer - The Times of India

La Hawla Wa La Quwwata illa Billah

There is no power and strength except with Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

extremy silly

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

Disappointed that Imran Khan jumped on this bandwagon.

Looks terribly primitive for the campaign trail of our future leader.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

who knows whats in the minds of those visiting dargahs and shrines. In our cultures, we go to elders and take their dua before starting a journey, going away from home, etc. If someone visited the dargahs of saints for this purpose, whats wrong in it?

Ba-adab ba naseeb, bad adab bad- naseeb.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

Now I know Nawaz means benefactor. Garib Nawaz. So does this mean Garib Nawaz Sharif is the next President.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

Peace Muqawwee123,

The difference is that our elders is alive but the saints of dargahs are deceased and who knows they are actually giving us dua or desperately needed our duas for themselve.

Back to OP's question: Simple answer is 'No'.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

May be they are going there to ask from Allah with their waseela & waseela se maangna is jaiz.
If someone is not physically present that does not always mean he/she is dead. If we see then shaheed are dead too but actually they are not.
We don't know the "neeyat" of those people who are visiting those dargahs & shrines, so we can't really judge them.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

At the root of it all, any religious practice sounds silly to non believers or followers of another religion. None of us is in a position to predict what will be silly down the road. For those who have faith this practice may be Nawazish - beneficial.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

Exactly. Praying at Dargah to ask for waseela or anything like that is considered shirk. A major crime which is unforgivable in sight of Allah.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

Aren't we supposed to say salam when we enter kabristan?

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

Not commenting on religious aspect - since I am ignorant on that. But in the Indo-pak region, a bigger problem is tax evasion, especially by the rich. If there is a God, I have no doubt he/she will put tax evasion more unforgiveable. Since no services possible without revenues.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

I've heard my father say "AsSalaamu Alaikum yaa ehlal-qaboor"...roughly translated it means "Salam to the people of the grave(s)".

Allah knows best.

I say it too while passing by graveyards. I believe there is a hadith that dictates this as well, but I cannot be certain. InshaAllah will try and locate the hadith and repost here.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

Yes, if you kill the person standing in your way.

Aren’t we supposed to say salam when we enter kabristan?
[/quote]

Salaam to dead people clearly means that they need our wishes and duas. If they need us then they are as needy as we are. In that case we are better off asking from Allah than asking from them

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

Cant beat this logic.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

:wsalam: LKK

so tell me why millions of Muslims are passionate to visit Gunbad e Khizra? If you go through Islamic literature and history, you will find that companions of the Prophet used to visit Roza e Rasool regularly. Read history of Karbala and you will find Hazrat Hussain going to the Roza e rasool before leaving Medina.

The point is reverence doesn’t die if a person dies.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

You can guess easily what their purpose to visit dargah is. If you ask any visitor of Data Darbar Shrine 'did you have read Kashf ul Mahjoob', they will simply reply you what are you taking about. Means they dont even know about the preachings of the personality they are visiting. Same goes for other Dargahs.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

as if visitors of Iqbal's tomb are well aware of 'Zarb e Kaleem' and 'Armaghan e Hijaz' :D Not all Sindhi know about the poetry of Shah Latif and if someone ask them about have you read 'Sur Khunbaat', they will say same thing as visitors of Data Darbar say about Kashaf ul Mehjoob.

Respect doesn't require that you know each and everything about the person.

Re: Praying on dargahs & shrines

its not answer to my point....
And visitors of Iqbal's tomb dont visit for the same purpose as visitors of data darbar do
