Praying is a challenge..

.. for me since the last few days, as the winter has gotten worse. I have been feeling this laziness like never before. As much as I intend to get up and pray, I just can’t do it. I’m absolutely horrible with my Fajr and Isha, especially.

Do any of you feel that way? What do you do about it?
I need to start being more regular with my prayers again and need some advice/guidance.. :bummer:

Re: Praying is a challenge..

oh god this thread is perfect for me right now… the past week has been atrocious when it comes to my prayers each day i make intention ok today im gna start praying again but somehow shaitan and my weak determination gets in the way again. I feel like im losing my inner peace and its so crap :hinna:

somebody please scare the crap outa me and tell me some punishments for not reading prayer

Re: Praying is a challenge..

You just have to make a decision. Just remember that the first thing we will be questioned for on the day of jusgement will be about our prayer.

Re: Praying is a challenge..

Its the other way for me Pareezay. Only today I was telling my friend (and he agreed) that the best part about Winter is that you can do Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha with the same wuzoo. Its easier in winter. Especially those 11:30 PM isha during summer time is a killer. Hardest for me in the whole year

Re: Praying is a challenge..

its normal. people do feel lazy to do namaaz...i think the best thing for ishaa is NOT to delay it...say it in awwal waqt [as soon as it starts when u r more energetic] that might help. its helped me. as far as fajr is concerned i think best way is to do it whenever u wake up in the morning to start with then set a target 10 min earlier for the next day and keep doping that until u get up in time for fajar...do i make sense to u? May Allah make it easier for u...aameen :)

Re: Praying is a challenge..

Set your central heating timer for fajar then it'll be warm and you won't feel cold but I don't know if you can do that.

I usually wear a fleece jacket to bed so I don't have to be cold when I wake up, feeling cold out of the blanket is the thing that keeps me in bed in the morning. You could also wear socks, it helps. And, for Isha you could try making some rituals. For example, I always take a shower at night, brush my teeth and pray before going to bed-in that order. It sorta helps me wind down after each day as well as makes sure I pray before going to sleep.

AND you get the best sleep if you take a warm shower right before it! :)

Re: Praying is a challenge..

American indian soldiers, when needed to get up early early in the morning to attack the enemy, used to drink lots of water before going to bed. Nature's call was good enough to force them out of the bed in the early morning time. You have problem getting up early, use that trick.

Re: Praying is a challenge..

This is what i do for fajr...cause yes I am very lazy when i want to be...but we have the athan clock...and whenever it goes off for fajr, i tell myself that i need to get up before the athan finishes....cause I know if don't i'll just go back to sleep and think i was "dreaming" that the athan went off! So yea that kind of "challenge" works for me. And its also helpful if your the person in charge for waking everyone else up...cause then you def. have to get out of that nice cozy bed!!! This may sounds really bad....but once you have made the effort to get up for Fajr...you have even more motivation to read the other 4 cause you dont wanna break the trend!! And then after a while it just becomes a habit!!! (well at least that's how it worked for me) they say if you do something for 30 days it because a habit!...and i know girls have a little break inbetween but during that time make the effort to sit down and just do tasbeeh!! that way you won't break the habit! :D

Re: Praying is a challenge..

Dawat-e-Islami > Bayanat

Plz listen to any or all of these. InshaAllah your spirit will be back.

that is SO true.

Re: Praying is a challenge..

I have a nice, warm room but the problem is mainly that I just haven’t been able to wake up early. Last month when hubby was here, he woke me up every morning but I was SO cranky in the early hours, (unintentionally). This sudden change is bothering me and I need to get back to how it was before.

TLK bhai, your advice about water is what R told me too. It’s kind of funny but true! What you said about all the namazes being close by is true as well, I saw hubby being all happy about it when he was here.. but I think the problem is me putting my Isha off which totally kills it for me.. the laziness takes over and then I just end up wasting time. I’m just not gonna wait now, will pray Isha as soon as it’s time to.

I was telling hubby about this thread and he scared me by telling me how you lose something by not praying each namaz. For fajr, an angel comes to you and goes to Allah swt and says, this person is sleeping.. Allah swt tells him to go check again, three times, and when the angel comes for the last time, Allah swt says to him, take his rizq and throw it in the ocean.. :bummer:

Re: Praying is a challenge..

Maybe for fajr, you should place your alarm clock away from your bed. That way you have to get up to switch it off. I find this is a good way to make sure i get up!

yeah its worked, I do it sometime when long hard working day and not confident to wake up early morning:aq:

the other thing is dua before sleep too many times its worked too amazingly

Re: Praying is a challenge..

I go through these difficult spells as well. It's kinda like exercising, once you get out of the habit, it's hard to get back in. I find the following helpful.

  1. Set a sincere intention to pray on time and ask God for help to keep your prayers on time.
  2. Set an alarm on your cell phone or your email calendar for each prayer time.
  3. Hang up the prayer times at your desk or the place where you look at majority of the time.
  4. Ask someone to call you in the morning to wake you up.

I think its much easier to read fajr in the winter, as you can read it until 7 - 8 am...

Summer is another story, where fajr goes as far as 2- 3am and the nights are much shorter.

A few tips that might help:

  • make your intention last thing before going to sleep, of getting up for fajr in the morning. Sometime when you do this, you dont even need an alarm clock, your body clock wakes you up at the right time.

  • Put your snooze alarm on every five mintues, that way even if youre not out of bed yet, you'll be wide awake.

  • For Isha, if you cant wait for the time, read it with you're maghrib. That way atleast you're not missing it.

  • a general tip for salah- keep the exact timing of the salah for the day in mind so that you are mentally prepared...the earlier you pray the more benefit you get from it...not just interms of sawaab, but also spiritual closeness and duas being accepted/changes in your lives.

*and also read tasbeeh e zahra after each salah as i find that helps to keep your prayers more regular.

Re: Praying is a challenge..

I am not for scaring people, as they only work for a set time and then you become indifferent...but think of an image of youreself, lying alone and helpless in your grave. I think the mere image would be enough to make laziest person crawl outta bed.

I especially feel lazy with prayers in the winter. It’s because I hate feeling cold. And wudhu in winter can feel uncomfortable (cuz you feel cold after washing yourself) and that makes us lazy, in my opinion.

It is said that doing wudhu helps remove our sins…so that can be used as motivation. I’ve read that skipping Asr prayer nullifies our good deeds for the day (they don’t get accepted)…so I try to use that as motivation.

Peace Ma Mooli

You see the Justice from Allah (SWT)? SubhanAllah

Nice.

Also,

-keep the alarm clock far away so the person does not keep shutting it off.

-Sleep early.

-Wear warm clothes even in bed.

(Sometimes a cotton sweater which one does not wear outside can be worn so one does not feel so cold in morning. This way, one does not have to be afraid of getting out of blanket or comforter)
