Prayer Timings

Does anyone know of any site in which they have Prayer timings for Canada? and the one that keeps on updating on time…?

Re: Prayer Timings

IslamicFinder.org

Make sure you change the settings for Hanafi (if you are one) because there is a one hour difference in Zuhr timings.

Re: Prayer Timings

We're none...not Hanafi nor Shahfi (we call ourselves sunnat-e-rasool or just sunni)...what to do now? i know of this site but this confuses me a lot.

Re: Prayer Timings

I am sure Niksik wanted to say Asr, not Zuhr ..

Teelo, if you are not sure then follow Hanafi timings for Asr but pray your Zuhr before Shafi time of Asr starts. That way you will always be safe and praying Zuhr and Asr during the times that are agreed upon by all the school of thoughts

Re: Prayer Timings

oops, sorry I meant asr.

Re: Prayer Timings

Well actually your initial interpretation was right too Niks .. there is about one hour time diff between when Shafi Zuhr ends and Hanafi Zuhr ends .. same thing that I was saying.

Re: Prayer Timings

Ok now I am confused.

Teelo, just follow what TLK said :smack:

Re: Prayer Timings

I AM CONFUSED TOO TLK...:s

16 Tue 5:55 7:15 12:33 3:23 5:50 7:10

16 Tue 5:55 7:15 12:33 4:06 5:50 7:10

So as per Islamic finder .. Zuhr starts at 12:33 on Feb 16 in Toronto. Asr starts at 3:23 according to Shafi and at 4:06 according to Hanafi ..

To be on safe side .. pray Zuhr anywhere between 12:33 and 3:23 ... avoid praying Zuhr after 3:23 (this is because although according to Hanfi, its still Zuhr time but according to Shafi, you have missed it) ...

... now for Asr, do it after 4:06 ((this is because according to both Hanfi and Shafi, its a sure shot Asr time although Shafi thinks that it started 50 mins ago)

nutshell, dont do any namaz during that grey area of 3:23 and 4:06, try to do them before or after

did I make sense?

Re: Prayer Timings

so the grey area is only for zuher & asr prayers?

Which city are you in? If you’re in Montreal, you can find it here:

Explanation of Islamic Prayer Timing

Times and hijri dates are updated daily.

Re: Prayer Timings

Yup. There are two rivayats .. one says that when the shadow of an object is 1 1/2 its size then Asr times starts, another one says that when the shadow is 2 times, is when Asr starts ..

Shafa'i follows the first rivayat, Hanafi follows the second one.

I’l come back tomorrow & ask qs if I’m still confused.

Re: Prayer Timings

The ISNA website has the prayer times for each day on their homepage.

You know this discussion reminds me of the office joke!

---- What is a meeting? (one guy asks)
---- Answer! Meeting is thing where you keep track of minutes but lose hours

On the prayer timings, Muslims argue about minute to minute thingy. And worry about using atomic clocks to make sure certain things are done at 3:22 and not 3:23.

But on the other hand we as collectively waste hours on end.

Why it is so?

Because we collectively have lost the soul of ibadah or prayers. And now what's left is shriveled up dead body comprising endless rituals.

the idea of prayers is simple. Allah swt wanted us to make "meditation" a part of our daily life. The life means from adolescence until we kick the bucket.

What does that mean?

Spend some quite time by yourself (or in a group) around 5 times a day. No hardship, just peace and quite time of roughly 15 minutes each.

Thus as Muslims we are blessed with FIVE 15 minutes intervals through the day when we need to pull away from the daily humdrum and sit quietly some place and worship Allah and meditate. During this time, we need to ask forgiveness, and MORE importantly PROMISE to better ourselves.

So you get away from it all before the sunrise, then during lunch time, then in the afternoon when your brain is slowing down. Then you are at home, so do meditate with your kids and your wife just after sunset, and then before you go to bed.

The emphasis is on the peace and quiet, and meditation, and forgiveness and promise of improvement. And not on 3:23 pm vs. 3:22 pm.

And how do you meditate?

Do not rush, do not huff and puff, just settle down in your office, home, or mosque whichever is available.

And be gentle with your movements, slowly and beautifully moving between different poses. Enjoy your time with Allah swt. You are in HIS presence. Talk to him, cry to him, ask for guidance, ask for peace for yourself and other human beings.

No shor and no sharaba, just peace and quiet. No loud noises, no hangama.

And spend 15 minutes judging YOURSELF and not others. If someone is praying at 3:22, let him do that, while you stick to your 3:23 timing.

If you have an office meeting, or a class at college, then Allah has given you flexibility for the midday meditation at two intervals. The first starts at just after 12 and goes until (roughly) 3. The second starts around 330 and remains their for an hour or so. Why because then your commute back to home will be starting soon.

Allah swt never wanted to put a straight jacket on you. There is no forced mushaqqat here. Because if there is one, then you won't be able to do meditate.

Only Allah knows if you are doing the right thing, so worry about pleasing Allah, but do try to bring peace to you and your surroundings. That's the whole reason for the prayers and meditation. It is for us, and not for Allah. He doesn't need our prayers, WE need HIM.

peace and salam to All .
