Re: Practicing or Appearing?
He replied, "Be thankful that they aren't alive today. If you had told them that you are a Muslim, after looking at your appearance the first thing that they would have immediately started would have been your PITAEE"
Please don't confuse Sahaba with Talibans.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?

Agreed because I HIGHLY doubt a Sahaba would do anyone's "PITAEE." There is no compulsion in religion - why do people forget that? Sure, Sahaba would guide us weak humans in a calm and logical manner but again no "pitaee" would take place.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
Yes, Sahaba were more worried about their own eeman than judging other people.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
So you haven't read any book on the life of Hazrat Umar (r.a) then, when it comes to personally punishing. :D
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
I have, but he was more of an exception than the rule, I believe.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
True. That is why I quoted his example. Anyways, that was in a light mood. I used to enjoy it even when I didn't have a beard, imagining Hazrat Umar doing my PITAEE, and I am running to save my life. LOL. In fact, I used to appreciate those people who used to make me feel guilty at that time for not following Sunnahs, because it motivated me to correct myself. As Hazrat Umar said, "My friend is actually the one who tells me my faults" I used to tell my friend, whenever you see me violating any sunnahs, you are allowed to slap me in front of everyone. Of course I won't myself do that to anyone else.
I remember not long ago, once in Peshawar I joined a bayan in Masjid, I was the only person in the gathering who was cleaned shaved and wearing pent shirt. After looking at me, the speaker (not an Aalim) took a U-turn and made clean shaved people the main topic of the Bayan. After the bayan, everyone left the Masjid, but I sat there with tears rolling down my eyes. It was because after reading "The lives of the Suhabas" from authentic sources, my understanding had changed a lot, I knew that I deserved this criticism, doesn't matter to me even if his way of conveying to me was wrong. I prayed to ALLAH to give me strength, as I didn't want to be embarrassed in front of the Prophet (SAW) on the day of judgement. Alhamdulillah, ALLAH helped me and made it easy for me.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
You are a nice person STP, but I cant say the same for the speaker. If he singled you out and made you the topic of his talk, I fail to see how he fulfilled his duty as a good Muslim. If a person does not know which naseehat to do in public and which to do in privacy, then he is not a good muslim or even a good human.

That and not to mention giving naseeyat and doing pitaee are two different things. Regardless of the intention I can't seem to give that a thumbs up. Our religion doesn't advocate pitaee/violence.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
Its a no brainer. Be good do good.
In certain activities how one dresses can have an impact on the outcome. Running - wear proper clothing shoes - you feel good. Working out of home - you dress for work, and you have a positive attitude.
If following proper customs ( including appearance) makes you calmer and in tune with your God, go for it.
I am going to apply vibhoothi on forehead this day forward. Maybe do a raw cut with a kudumi. Only mundu and meyl veshti from now on.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
Practicing and appearing are both orders of ALLAH and his PROPHET SAW we have to keep beard women have to wear Hijab because that is order of ALLAH and his PROPHET SAW just like other orders can't choose
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
tou aap kay khyal say jo sar aur chehra cover nahi kerti woh dozakh main jayen gi? chehra cover kernay say namaz invalid ho jati hai, right?
Hijab and awra are two different things....in awara we must cover certain parts of the body including head/hair during salaat. Hijab is fardh but it has different forms and you'll find people following different clothing and styles to follow a certain awra or criteria which is acceptable to the norms of the society. And by acceptable I mean men find it normal and don't find it offensive or attractive. Jaisay Pakistan kay kuch ilaqon main you must wear shalwar kameez halan kay cover tou jeans and long and loose top bhi ker saktay hain magar you'll get stares for wearing western clothing.
For some muslim societies it is pretty normal to show belly and for some the shins. However they must follow the awra described in hadith for namaz.
Makkah main most aurtain used to leave their breasts uncovered before the ayahs were revealed and believe me I have seen women who wear abaya and niqab but still show off their bosom with their body language. That's because they haven't understood the verses.
Showing bosom and cleavage is unacceptable in public (unless someone has to breastfeed her baby) in all Islamic cultures and societies because Quran is very clear on that. The ultimate purpose of hijab is not to seek for unwanted attention from men (basically not to have slutty attitude and attire).
Sad thing is muslim men have become highly obsessed with hijab/niqab when there's no need for it. Most muslim women dress modestly and according to their norms.
Muslim men must drop this idea of covering each and every 12+ girl in black tent because they "believe" that is what a most pious woman must do. Islam promotes diversity and tolerance, not monoculture.
Lady Niqab is order of ALLAH that is fardh Muslim women have to do it lady their is no question of so called need here that is order of ALLAH and Muslim women have to follow it other wise every women will form her own standards of modesty that is why ALLAH has given clear cut orders and by the way read Quran again you are using wrong terms lady
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
Head covering is fard during prayer and part of hijab according to the majority of scholars.....some scholars don't consider it fard in the context of hijab.
Lady Sattar is Hijab lady they are not different only question is weather when going outside do women have to cover her face or not the parts which have to be covered in Salah have to be covered ever where else to when in front of Na Mehram their is no difference lady and also the requirements have to be fulfilled that clothe should not be see through or tight or looking like men or kafirs
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
Of course, by PITAEE I didn't mean crushing bones into pieces or separating flesh from the bones. My mother used to do my PITAEE everyday because she loves me and wanted to correct/ teach me. Well, they have to do PITAEE at times when sweet words don't work. And yes it was not by default (as asumed by some) a Taliban/ ninja style violence that I may be required to go to police to complain about it. So many times read in books of hadiths, a father's PITAEE of his son is like water for a plant. (It helps in his growth). I used the word in that context, as Hazrat Umar (R.A) used to love every Muslim in that sense, even though his PITAEE was a lot more severe than that of a father. :D Still not the type that we call violence.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?

If HAZRAT UMAR RA would have been alive today many those people who call them so call moderates would have dead by now

Islam doesn't really allow parents to hit their kids....we hit our kids when we can't control anger and anger is haram but no....we are so keen on "dushmano ki gardans urana".

First lady Islam allows parents to hit their kids in fact HAZRAT MUHAMMAD SAW said when your child doesn't offer Salah when he is 10 hit him
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
Well, if I also apply the same rule that has been applied to me and other posters, many times up til now:
**RULE: **Ignore all the related posts in the thread, pick one word/ sentence out of the whole post/ nasheed, quote it out of context, mis-interpret it and jump to a conclusion based on ones own interpretation.
Let me try how I can also apply this rule. For example
"dushmano ki gardans urana"
From where do you get such stuff ? How can we fly the green gardens of our enemies. This just isn't Islamic!
p.s. At the OP, sorry for killing the thread. Whenever the above mentioned rule is applied, the thread gets de-tracked/ killed. Which has already been done.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
no worries STP.......this has been a very fruitful discussion as far as I am concerned.
as long as healthy debate and and exchange of ideas and knowledge continues there is no "killing the thread".
