Re: Practicing or Appearing?
i said slutty clothes, not slutty women.
good that you picked up the point…
which brings us back to the question now, keeping in view the slutty issue,
is it practice or appearance that would make you identify someone as slutty?
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
^practice.
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
Observing hijab isnt just in terms of attire but also modesty in gaze and behavior, that agreed. How do we interpret covering of the head. Is it an obligatory part of hijab. Are there specific hadith which have used covering of the head as an obligation. I really would like to know. Since like psyah bhai has already mentioned about varying interpretations, I would like to know about various scholars opinion on this! What confuses me** if covering of the head is indeed a fard**, how can there be different levels of interpretation.

Re: Practicing or Appearing?
This professor in my university is always forcefully encouraging me and everyone else to not be contented with just our Masters degree but also complete our PhD and then go for post doc, as life is given only once and we should make the best of it...
My friend calls him a really dedicated person who sincerely wants everyone to achieve high goals in life. But I tell him, "Why is he so judgmental ?!?! Always scaring me that if I don't complete my doctorate, this and that would happen to my career, that I might not get a good job/salary/position..etc. & might repent later. Does he think of himself to be a better engineer than us. Only ALLAH knows who is a better engineer. It doesn't depend on the degree, but the intentions that one has. Who knows I might be a better engineer in the eyes of the multinational companies. I don't like his better engineer than thou attitude. Always judging us!!"
You know why I say all this to my friend about someone whom he likes because of his "Realistic Reminders" based on truth.
Because he puts the same blame on our authentic religious scholars, whenever they sincerely wish that everyone may achieve good grades on the day of "judgement" based on the principles of Quran & Hadiths, by not taking any teaching of the prophet lightly.
The difference is that we easily accept all advises/ discussion/ different perspectives/ arguements related to this world, that is visible to the naked eyes. But when it comes to the matters of the hereafter (only visible to vision of heart through Quran & Hadith) people seem to look judgmental, even though ONLY Allah knows their intentions.

tou aap kay khyal say jo sar aur chehra cover nahi kerti woh dozakh main jayen gi? chehra cover kernay say namaz invalid ho jati hai, right?
Hijab and awra are two different things....in awara we must cover certain parts of the body including head/hair during salaat. Hijab is fardh but it has different forms and you'll find people following different clothing and styles to follow a certain awra or criteria which is acceptable to the norms of the society. And by acceptable I mean men find it normal and don't find it offensive or attractive. Jaisay Pakistan kay kuch ilaqon main you must wear shalwar kameez halan kay cover tou jeans and long and loose top bhi ker saktay hain magar you'll get stares for wearing western clothing.
For some muslim societies it is pretty normal to show belly and for some the shins. However they must follow the awra described in hadith for namaz.
Makkah main most aurtain used to leave their breasts uncovered before the ayahs were revealed and believe me I have seen women who wear abaya and niqab but still show off their bosom with their body language. That's because they haven't understood the verses.
Showing bosom and cleavage is unacceptable in public (unless someone has to breastfeed her baby) in all Islamic cultures and societies because Quran is very clear on that. The ultimate purpose of hijab is not to seek for unwanted attention from men (basically not to have slutty attitude and attire).
Sad thing is muslim men have become highly obsessed with hijab/niqab when there's no need for it. Most muslim women dress modestly and according to their norms.
Muslim men must drop this idea of covering each and every 12+ girl in black tent because they "believe" that is what a most pious woman must do. Islam promotes diversity and tolerance, not monoculture.

Re: Practicing or Appearing?
So then according to some of you, head covering is just a cultural phenomenon and not part of the recommended parda in Islam?
Any valid and authentic ruling on this stance?
Re: Practicing or Appearing?
The question as Huma said is fallacious to begin with. Islam is a way of life so it includes everything from obligatory prayers to behaviour to out look. Of course though if you look at where it starts it starts with faith and belief in Allah (SWT); therefore we start with fulfilling the fard obligations. Indirectly that means the way one dresses comes after practicing and it makes sense too. What I am dumb founded by in this thread is how easily everyone judged those who think looking is just as important or are not in agreement to the popular belief. At the end of the day we can't determine what is in someones heart. The woman who may observer hijab may not pray but maybe the act of wearing hijab will compel her to pray. Or the woman who prays may eventually be compelled to observe hijab. I had a lot to say but I guess a wonderful Eid made me forget it all lol.
Essentially I believe this sort of questioning will only give us weak human beings a reason to put our appearance on the back burner and possibly think it doesn't even matter as its all about niyah. Even though niyah is a big part we still have to strive to do better in all aspects and grow in our faith. I don't even know if I'm making any sense anymore. :/

Re: Practicing or Appearing?
This not just happen with beard, even people choose to not pray namaz thinking they have done sin that day, this is how devil (shetan) make us think so we stop even trying being a good muslim. No one can be 100% muslim just in one day, but can become good muslim practicing all the little things each and every day as much as we can, the time we are able to do little things with ease we will be ready for the big ones, every tree is just a seed in the start
JazakAllah Khair for the idea. Would help me in completing a blog.
What about those who appear to be practicing?
