PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

How can these elections to be free or fair when the process is tiled toward right wing pro Taliban parties?

Parties on

KARACHI: A day after the PPP, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Awami National Party declared that they would not leave the electoral ground to militants and their political wings, the three parties alleged on Tuesday night that they were being compelled to boycott the May 11 elections.

Senator Shahi Syed of the ANP, Rehman Malik of the PPP and Dr Farooq Sattar of the MQM addressed a joint press conference at the MQM’s ‘Nine Zero’ headquarters.

While Dr Sattar said that conspiracies were being hatched to hijack the elections and democracy, Mr Malik told the press conference these conspiracies were actually aimed at disintegrating Pakistan.

Dr Sattar said that the world powers wanted to bring a government of rightwing parties just to ensure their safe exit from Afghanistan.

He warned that if pro-Taliban forces came to power in the country, they would bring instability to the whole region.

He said that Pakistan was heading towards an ‘unjust and unfair election’ and national and international establishments were involved in this conspiracy.

“A clear message has been sent to moderate, liberal and progressive parties that either they will be forced to boycott the elections and if they don’t (boycott) then it is clear that they would not be given equal opportunity to contest the polls,” the MQM leader said.

He said that the ANP, the PPP and the MQM believed that the establishment was giving an open field to rightwing conservative parties to contest the elections.

Dr Sattar urged the caretaker government, the Election Commission of Pakistan and law enforcement agencies to fulfil their constitutional and legal obligations by holding free, fair and transparent elections.

The ANP’s Shahi Syed, who until recently was considered the MQM’s nemesis, said the three parties should evolve a joint strategy to fight against terrorists who were targeting innocent people.

“We will not allow these terrorists to decide about our parliament…no one can enter parliament with the support of these terrorists,” he added.

He said that the terrorists were targeting the ANP, PPP and MQM, but fighting against them was the responsibility of every patriotic citizen and party.

He declared that threats would never force the three parties to run away from the field.

Mr Malik said that the elections were a contest between anti-Taliban and pro-Taliban parties.

He used the opportunity to criticise PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and PTI chairman Imran Khan, saying the nation wanted to know whether there was any “unwritten agreement between them and the terrorists” as it appeared that the “Taliban are providing them protection”.

He said the Taliban wanted to bring their own prime minister and it was high time that the whole nation stood up to them.

He said that President Asif Zardari, MQM chief Altaf Hussain and ANP president Asfandyar Wali had decided to fight against terrorists. “We do not want to fight…we just want to save the people of Pakistan.”

Earlier, a number of MQM workers welcomed Senator Syed and Mr Malik when they reached the ‘Nine Zero’.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

This is what I thought would happen. TTP are helping those parties they claim to be punishing. The elections and the results I think would be controversial and could push the country further into an abyss.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

This Ellections definitely divide pro right and pro left parties, as Keyani point out one thing in his current speech the Pak Army never tolerate with the eliments who are against the writ of pakistan, question is that what up coming govt do with that eliments! PPP/ANP/MQM are clear on their stance against millitants and my guess idea they win around 80 NA seats. There should be a Hung Parliement this time. If PTI could win the seats between 20>30 then there is two possible chances for them 1. Stay in opposition or make alliance with liberals or right wing like PMLN and group.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

Not sure whether to laugh or laugh.

So PPP, ANP and MQM rule Sindh and the Center for 5 deadly years........fight deadly wars in Karachi with each other for 5 years with an average daily death toll of 5-10...........harbor criminal elements within their parties, and promote them as needed.........and fail in establishing any semblance of peace for 5 years..........bring in an election commission of their own liking..........bring in caretaker governments of their own liking..........and now all of a sudden the problem they had and nurtured for the past 5 years is a conspiracy against them?

Sorry, but its not just the terrorism. Its also the the fact that people are fed up with you lot. The fact that PPP contestants are getting pelted with eggs on their election campaign in interior Sindh, and Karachiites are openly taking Mustafa Kamal and other MQM thugs to task speaks volumes of how the winds have changed. To all the whining parties, quit whining. The elections will be fair. You will lose not because of terrorism, but because you failed as governors.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

Is that similar to how the 2008 elections were hijacked by the criminal elements of a party that came on the heels of an NRO, with openly emanating statements threatening to turn the country upside down if PPP did not win?

MQM, PPP and ANP are just looking for excuses to justify their eventual defeat.....as if they had anything to go by in these elections.

And perhaps Rehman Malik can first explain why he was headed to Raiwind the other day. A-hole.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

@ Silaaj 10 days more and everything come out clearly(^_^)
Put away past five years and start think about future. And I really don't laugh whatever you draw a picture of future, so give me your views for future up coming govt.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

From all the three parties mentioned, ANP is the only one genuinly attacked by terrorists and deserves sympathy.

As far as MQM concerns, it is what it is - cunning to the core. For them full Bhatta control of Khi and full freedom of "Thappa" on the election day is the only thing called "Free and Fair".

Champions of Siasi QalabaaziaN, urban terrorism, Bhatta khori are now all of a sudden showing themselves as victims. And media is playing along!

One can only shake head!!

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

The stuff happening around us make me believe this country needs divine retribution. IK change is an understatement !

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

I am not one to delve in the past. That strategy belongs to status quo parties, who initially came in with promises of this, that and the other in 2008, and after failing miserably for 5 years, attributed everything to 'inherited problems and terrorism', both of which they are a part of.

The fate of the country will be decided in 10 days for sure. We can only hope and pray that we have a government that has some semblance of self respect, and that works for the public without referring to past failures of prior governments, and that is not corrupt.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

"Divine retribution" through whom? Through naw-tanki league?

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

So are you saying that MQM is NOT being attacked by khawarij?!

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

The innocent are dying and suffering more because of these attacks from taliban. Their love and support for JI, PTI and PML-N is an indication what we are heading towards if these low life extremist parties comes into power.

NAYA PAKISTAN with TALIBAN laws.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

You're so right. Took the words right out of my mouth. Pakistan needs another 5 years of progressive parties like PPP and coalition partners who took it from the depths of darkness to becoming a beacon of success on the international stage.

Never mind that illiteracy rate, never mind the people who committed suicides due to poverty, never mind the increase in drone attacks, never mind the increase in domestic terrorism. These are all secondary things. Things of priority have been accomplished to the fullest in the last 5 years. Next 5 will be spent tackling these miniscule problems.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

PML-N supports LEJ and taliban.
PTI supports Taliban.
JI supports taliban.

What makes you think that double faced taliban supporter imran will solve all the issues of Pakistan?

Naya Pakistan with taliban laws. Imran will surrender to them and taliban will run our country. His love for extremism will make our lives a living hell especially karachi & its people that will suffer the most. You know the worst thing is imran don't even condemn these extremist and their suicide attacks on civilians. His partnership with Ji is another indication of what will happen in the future. Karachi is the economic hub and the backbone of the county, these extremist will try their best to control the city.

LEJ, TTP, JI, PTI and PML-N all are same.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

The governing parties had 5 wholesome years to tackle the terrorism issue. What did they do about it? Why don't you talk about their performance instead of repeating the same mantra and scare tactics?

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

PPP+ANP+MQM failed but still it's better to have them running the helms of the affair than have terrorist and extremist running the country. They atleast fought against the barbarians unlike imran who has already planned to surrender infront of them and make them part of their government.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

You said they failed.

Then you go on to say "It's better for vote for them" in the same breath.

Did I miss something?

So who's the partner hand-in-hand with terrorists? The one who despite having the Government Machinery at their disposal and fails to use it to eradicate terrorism, or the one who has proven record of public service WITHOUT having been in power, has no convictions for corruption or terrorism, and wants to bring the entire society on the same mainstream platform?

If you answer this honestly, you will be one step closer to being a part of Pakistan that your children will thank you for, or curse you for. The consequences of choice can be dire as we've seen in the last 5 years.

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

He is supporting taliban what public service is this??

Re: PPP, MQM ANP: Elections are neither fair nor free

Is he powerful as compared the government of Pakistan? Was he the reason why the government was not able to control terrorism (especially in karachi) during the past five years?
