PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, April 5: A sense of deprivation has forced people of the Seraiki belt to launch a movement for a separate province in Punjab. Pakistan People’s Party-Parliamentarians vice-chairman Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi said this while talking to journalists at a reception here on Wednesday.

“If Hyderabad and Larkana can be bifurcated for administrative reasons, Punjab could also be divided on the same lines to create a Seraiki province,” he asked.

He said that since its inception Pakistan was being run under the ‘doctrine of necessity’ and added that the constitution had been either suspended or amended repeatedly under this doctrine by military regimes to justify their rule.

Mr Qureshi claimed that most of the politicians had been following this doctrine except for the PPP that had only followed the ‘law of necessity of people’.

Expressing concern over deteriorating conditions in Sindh, he said the writ of the government did not exist in Balochistan while the NWFP had become very sensitive because of official policies. He said the law and order situation in Punjab was also not satisfactory. He feared a situation similar to one prevailing in East Pakistan shortly before its dismemberment.

He observed that the coalition government of Sindh stood divided on the issue of the construction of water reservoirs.

He said it was a failure of the foreign policy of the government that Kabul was accusing Islamabad of interfering into its affairs despite the fact that Pakistan had borne the burden of hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees.

The PPP leader warned that the country might disintegrate if the next elections were rigged and suggested that all democratic forces should evolve a joint strategy to prevent the rulers from rigging the polls. “No matter when polls are held Benazir Bhutto will return to supervise the election campaign,” he said.

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

shah mahmood qureshi was the prime ministerial candidate of PPP in the 2002 elections. He is well lnwon in political and social circles of multan and he is the Sajjada Nasheen of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya shrine.

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

this is a must but the seraiki porvince issue is not so strong yet. ther eis ahuge difference between the seraiki and punjabi areas no tincluding bahawalpur which matches northern punjab thanks to its Aabbassi rulers

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

I am from Bahawalpur side as well and i don't see much difference between people from Bahalwal nagar-Bahawalpur to those in other parts of Punjab. There is a minor difference in the way people speak but then Punjabi is spoken differently throughout Punjab. The actual culture and traditions is exactly the same. I know lot of Siraikis from Multan side who speak siraiki but they also speak as good Punjabi as anyone in PUNJAB but if Siraikis want a seperate province for themselves, there shouldn't be any problem with that. From my personal experience, i don't see why they will cause a huge fuss about it.

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

^^^ the only problem with us every local leader want to have more powers over people hence more bargaining with centre or loot khsoot locally, he knows he can win locally and rule sraiki province.
same goes to MQM who want khi as seprate to sindh, same mentality rules blochi sardars they want to rule and have more power .

as result of this thinking we have micky mouse parties every part of Pakistan, cause everyone want to be a president, prime minister, chief minister or governor and they want to be know as leader of the party even if the party has 4 members from the family.

only few great leaders think out of the box of ethinicity and think nationaly.
its shame as nation we are failed to produce such leaders who can appeal and represent people from every cornor of the country.

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

Spot on Shak!!!
They hardly care about the people, we all know how much some of these corrupt politicians care about an average person. Today it’s Siraikis who all of a sudden realised that they need a seperate province, we will soon be witnessing an uprising of some MALIKS against CHOUHDARYS of Punjab because Choudharys have captured more powerful positions and MALIKS are being ignored so we need a seperate province for MALIKS :rotfl: :rotfl:

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

multan was once the capital of sindh it was always a region between sindh and punjab and not punjab. The fact is many leaders have edorsed the seraiki province.hanif ramay also supported the partition of punjab into three separate provinces.sherbaz mazari former caretaker PM is also in favour of a seraiki province.

Shak kills
MQM has changed its manifesto back in 97 98 and now calls for sindhi unity.Update yourself brother

mysterious_guy
yeah most pf the people from multan region are bilingual atleast but my friend bhawalpur was a state before partition and not a part of punjab

But it is their genuine demand. Many states of india have also been divided due to similar reason bombay into maharastra(marathi) and gujrat(gujrati) east punjab was divided mainly on religious and linguistic lines (haryana, punjab, himachal pradesh)

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

I say anything to make Punjab smaller is a good move... Plus, shows some flexibilty on the punjab side.

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

Bharatis and Hindustanis always believed in dividing people along religious lines. Look what they have done to Muslims of UP and Gujarat.

It was Bharati and Hindustani leadership who refused to work with Jinnah.
It was Bharati and Hindustani politics that divided South Asia.
it was Bharati and Hindustani machination that resulted in division of Pakistan.

and the list goes on and on.

Here we have this Syed sahib who wants to continue the process of division, in a Hindustani style!

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

Bhai meray itnay jazbatee na ho dont post the same thread thrice

Meray bhai.mazari has the most reasonable view to divide the province for administrative purposes anyway I was just giving the example of india.Cairo has three provinces for administrative purpose

what is your proposal antiobl baboooo

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

you still believe in one unit.I think we should remain as one not a divided nation but if a large section of the population wants a separate province whats the harm in it ???

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

And Cairo is the shining example of "management and administration". Hahahah! Have you ever been to the city of thieves called Cairo?

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

No I havent but I know that it has three or more than three provinces.

whats the harm in having more provinces you tell me??

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

People who talk about divisions based on Mohajirism, Siraikism, Balochism are simply shararti Bharati Hindustanis or their pathetic perukars (followers or believers).

Discussions along ethnic lines simply distracts us from resolving real issues such as overhauling 200 years old tax system and setting up pro-business environment.

Who wants one more state assembly, one more governor, one more state police and increase the administrative costs with no possible gain for the improvement of the livelihood of ordinary Pakistanis.

So thank you and save us from this Bharati Hindustani style divisions.

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

syedpk is an anti-pakistani thug for sure!

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

tmx305 and AntoOBL, maybe you two "patriots" are teh anti-Pakistani thugs. You guys are being so close minded, this is exactly the kind of mindset that people from smaller provines are annoyed about. As far as Im concerned, split Punjab into 3 provines.
1. Seraikistan - capital Multan
2. Punjab - capital Lahore
3. Patohar - capital Rawalpindi
Breaks down the incluence of Punjab nationally and creates 6 roughly equally sized provinces.

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

Mate you've pronounced just about anyone who disagrees with you as a anti-Pakistani
Either you are'nt the sharpest knife in the drawer and don't realize you are just proving their point, or you are actually an Indian trying to stir up $hit

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

I dont mind spliting of all the provinces for administrative purposes.

but tell me whats lacking administratively? right now and how it will improve anything apart from more assemblies and more ministers? so poor pakistanis have to feed more minister and their addiction to money and power!!

Administrative divisions already exists in current system.

I am against any division if its only purpose is to downsize Punjab just cause it has more population? or division on basis of different dialect of Punjabi? on that basis dialect changes every 20 miles !!

Blochistan may have more problems to administer cause of its sheer size, do we think it should also be splitted to have province for every sardar?

simple solution is give more power to regional Divisions and leave the provincal assemblies to overlook strategic development.

I am up for divisions and disection of any state province if it brings benefit to people!

I am against division cause everyone want a province of their own for any other reason!!

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

Good comments by former Punjab Governor…

‘Autonomy ineffective sans financial authority’](Daily Jang: Urdu News - Latest Breaking News update Pakistan - jang.com.pk)
In Pakistan, provinces too large and need to be divided, says ex-governor

By Our Correspondent

Former Governor Punjab Shahid Hamid said provincial or district autonomy could not be effective without complete financial authority.

Delivering a special lecture at Government College University Thursday, he explained different constitutional provisions to harmonize the difference between the centre and the provinces and among the provinces.

In India, a ‘States Reorganization Commission’ was set up in 1954 as a permanent body to entertain references from the president or the Parliament in case of a demand or need for more states, he said. They started with 14 states, and now they have 33 states, he added. Other provinces perceive Punjab a dominant province and resent it, he said. “The modern history of countries with dominant provinces is a very ominous history,” he added.

Quoting the example of Yugoslavia, where Serbia was the dominant province and was broken into six states due to the resentment of Bosnia, Slovenia, Slovakia and Croatia, he said the present provinces of Pakistan were much too large and needed to be divided to establish the good faith in the Punjabis. He said, at present in Constitution, there are 67 subjects on the federal legislative list, 47 on the provincial legislative with a total of 114. “The other provinces are demanding to get rid of the concurrent legislative list,” he added.

One other aspect is the question of resources which the local politicians have ignored altogether. He said the question of local government was a provincial subject. He termed it a failure of the present government as it had failed to arrive at a consensus ‘National Finance Award.’

Other provinces feel that they are being deprived of their legitimate shares by thee federal bureaucracy dominated by the Punjab which went against the inter-provincial harmony, he said.

Speaking about water issue, he said 24 million acre feet of water was being wasted as it was allowed flow into the Arabian Sea. Later, Vice-Chancellor GCU Dr Khalid Aftab gave a souvenir to Shahid Hamid.

Re: PPP leader calls for Seraiki province

Why just population criteria is important for division. How about size? Let's divide Balchistan into three provinces: Qallat, Gawadar, and Quetta. How about splitting NWFP into Peshawar and Bannu, And Sindgh into Sindh Urban and Sindh Rural. We'll then have 10 provinces, 10 governors, 10 provincial assemblies, 4000 MPAs, 1000 MNAs, 800 senetors, and 10 CMs.

Everyone will be happy then?

These are the jokers following Bharati Hindustanis and their divisive chankya-ism. We'll all remain busy in further dividing the country until one of the neighbor comes in and takes away the pieces.

Our focus ought to be overhauling 200 years old tax system and creating pro-business rules.

Bunch of Hindustani jokers. If you like Hindustani divisions, you are more than welcome to pack your dhoti and sari and go back and live there.
