Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
Dullie, you will see her photos on the front page if she is kidnapped by RAW or is in the Rajdhani. Just accept the fact that first, a bunch of Pakistanis rapped her in the name of Islam (or tribalism whatever) and second, the dictatorship doesn’t want anyone to know about it. I sincerely hope that you wouldn’t do it if someone form your own family was gang rapped. Now go and jerk off.
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
Where was this power when Cat Stevens, a man with an almost spotless career as a superstar, was detained and denied entry...
Yousuf Islam, whose dedication to peace and efforts towards it are legendary, now can't enter the States...
A renowned humanitarian VS. one gang-raped woman...
Although her mission is, no doubt, a good one, but I am beginning to hate the media frenzy that surrounds each every happening that happens in Islamic nations...
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
americans are more concerned abt mai but they keep a blind eye to whatever their troops are doing in afghanistan & iraq. they kill scores of innocents there but you don't hear a single word on that. NYT is now fully dedicated to print stories like these ignoring the real important issues at hand. but then do they care? hello no.
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
Firstly, let me just say that this is a silly post by Madhanee. I think it will take a lot more than a piece of OP-Ed from Nytimes to make a leader of a country soil in his pants, let alone a military dictator. If you follow this train of thought, then mushy would have handed Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan the last time Nytimes & Post editorials asked for Dr. Qadeer's head. So, go easy on the drama madhanee...
...Why don't we see the pictures of Kashmiri muslim victims raped by the Hindu fundamentalists, or hear about the plight of the chechen women tormented by the russians, or the Iraqi women widowed by the Americans. It won't do the hypocrites any good!.....What happened to her is wrong no doubt.....
perhaps, we're so tied up with focusing on what others are doing to muslims that we are beginning to overlook and accept what we as mulsims are doing to other muslims. SO why can't a "Hindu fundamentalists" say to us that "hey, muslim can rape a muslim and get away with it, so why can't i?"
May be whinning is what we are good at. We know we can't do diddly squat about whats happening in Iraq or Kashmir so we whine about it over and over again. But where we can possibly make a minute amount of difference in relieving suffering to an oppressed, we bring this old baggage of " situation is exploited by the west" and don't want to admit that we are the really screwed up one. How can it be o.k. for a woman to be gang raped and the rapist are now toying with being released?? Forget about whats the rape rate in USA or how many woman are battered in USA, lets talk about this poor single woman because she's just one insignificant example of what happens to countless women in Pakistan and other muslim countries. So lets focus on this one case for what its worth, a woman's izzat, and an izzat which was not taken by an AMerican/Russian/Indian soldier but by one of ours. Doesn't it demand a thread on its own without brining the old baggage of "media exploitation"?? What ever happened to "whosoever saved one life, its as if he saved one hunmanity." So lets all focus on saving atleast one life, maybe then we'll be worthy of saving thousands...
p.s. special thanks for the lip services such as "What happened to her is wrong no doubt", "Although her mission is, no doubt, a good one, but I am beginning to hate the media frenzy that surrounds each every happening that happens in Islamic nations"
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
Ghalib Uncle, actually that’s another element of what Dandi said “woe is me”. The NYTimes at best only has one lousy little coverage of “muslim” issues, and once in a while an op-ed piece or an editorial. Believe it or not (actually do believe) that they cover the “entire” world – be it muslim/hindu or wahabi. Just because Pakistan is in the spotlight now, it is getting a little more coverage, that’s all. But here’s the question: what’s so big deal about a reporter or a newspaper being critical of a dictatorial regime (using Mukhtaran mai as a focal point, because its a case that has generated some debate)? I think it is wonderful that newspaper such as the NYT covers places like Pakistan. Trust me when Friedman says something, the world leaders are all ears. Read his today’s column about how he is proposing Toyota to take over GM. These are polished journalists and are at the top of their game, mushi can kiss anyone of their ass. You guys have this big defensive attitude as if someone has a big cross over your butt and is taking aim at you. Most of the world doesn’t even know who Mushi is, as he is not really that important, so there’s no need to get so sensitive when stupidities of our nation are exposed. It only results in good outcome when things like these are brought into light.
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
BTW NY times OP-eds are also discussed in detail by CNN FOX MSNBC and also on PBS Jim Lehrer Special.
If Al-Jazeera could understand english or NYtimes published in Arabic I am certain they would be discussed on Al-Jazz as well. Cant really say about Geo maybe they discuss the Khabar nama with Ahzhar Lodhi.
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
thats another good quality of muslims, words words and more words but no actions. care 2 share ur heroics as in how u saved that 1 important life to save humanity?
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
Who cares about a left wing news paper..specially coming from Yanks. Maybe Kristof should write about how innocnet people are being killed in the name of democracy and the fine (and I say that with reservations) people of NY will grow balls and influence their own government for a change to call back the army from Iraq. Did Kristof paid the same attention to the amnesty international reports regarding Gitmo? I doubt it. Typical yank...rude, obnoxious with an accent that sound like somebody just put a polish in his mouth.
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
^^ But he did pay attention to the crisis in Sudan. But no one listens not even President Bush, atleast Bush didnt revoke his passport and still let him travel to Sudan.
On Balls, Bahijan Balls is all we have, to wake up and come to work 200 yards from the WTC. Brings memories everyday of the innocence lost. Gitmo terrorist, Iraqis, Afghanis and the rest of the muslims can go suck a gunna or a gundairi what ever they like.
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
PD, ok I did vote for Bush. That does not mean that I still support him. Recent development, especially Downing St. memo (minutes) and mismanegment of war has changed my view about him. Mind you, I said views have changed regarding Bush...not conservative.
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
Verizon, what proof do you have that they were/are terrorist? Most of them were picked up in sweeps…with no accountability. If you were at the wrong place at the wrong time…you were caught. The fact is that we do not know if any of them are in fact terrorists…because they were never tried or their crimes were never made public. So keep the rhetoric of walking by the WTC in your pants and see how many have been killed in the name of those 3000.
P.S. Are we ever going to see the proof that it was in fact Osama who was behind the attacks?
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
So you don’t support him, but used the greatest right you have as an american, which is taking part in our democratic traditions, so flippantly?
I voted for Kerry because I belived he could better execute this war. Not that he would remove our troops. I didn’t vote for Bush because his strategy is wrong. Combined with the fact that bible thumping morons are everywhere around him.
BTW/ I think Channji has laid down the perfect explanation for How the WTC towers fell in WA. Should make you happy. Never mind the fact, it has been discussed to death and never mind the fact that most of the world doesn’t belive in conspiracies so ardently namazified by the muslim world.
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
PD, I will not charecterize it as "flippantly".... There was no way I was going to vote for Kerry after hearing him describe how he thre away the medals awarded(allegedly) to him. Is that the kind of man who can lead a nation in a war...not to mention his brigade of gays and lesbian...(remember those sickos only make about 2-3% of US population) and to give them a huge support is undemocratic immoral.
Re: Power of International Pressure and Denialists
Gays and lesbians don't go around blowing up kids in pizza parlors and they certainly don't throw acid on girl's faces for not being covered up. I think your concept of sickos needs some revalidattion.
