Powder Room

Our powder room is super-boring. At least by my standards.

It has a two-piece white suite with a pedastal sink. The standard vanity light fixture that you see above make-up mirrors and a small glass shelf at about eye-level just above the toilet.

The floor is 12 x 12 ceramic tile that is beige with clay-coloured veins running through.

How can I make this room a bit more…I don’t know…interesting…?

Re: Powder Room

give it a desi touch and it will be a conversation piece. You know ,whole desi nine yards of a powder room.
hole in the ground , pocha and jharo for cleaning, stainless steel ka lota for taharat and wuzu.

Stop calling it Powder room and start calling it Bait-ul-Khala ..

you should not speak of your khala that way.....

Re: Powder Room

Joke aside, what is your budget Muzna? Do you just want to re-decorate it, paint it or change the fixtures?

That reminded me, she called my mom yesterday and complained that I dont call her anymore. Now I have to call her in a day or tow :smack:

Since I’ve been window shopping with my sister for her powder room, here are some ideas, which of course depends on how large/small the PR is how much you want to spend:

  • new vanity with a basin sink
  • an interesting light fixture (a small chandelier would look amazing)
  • crown moulding around the ceiling
  • change the fixtures (towel bar, toilet roll holder, etc)
  • wall sconces
  • and the biggest one is the paint and accessories - pick a different colour and get towels and decoration pieces to match/complement the colour.

Here are some pics that incorporate some of the ideas:

Re: Powder Room

I don't want to change fixtures.....but I did invest in a new tap so that will go in with the existing sink.

The light fixture is builder-installed so that can be changed without too much added cost so I will consider that otherwise I think just re-decorating (i.e. paint, wallpaper/decals) will do it.

Re: Powder Room

i love a small chandelier in the powder room. so pretty.

can u change the sink? u can have those bowl type sinks that come up from the counter. or have a sink that is the same piece as the counter and get a cabinet underneath.

how abuot a paint job? or some really elegant wallpaper?

change the mirror as well..maybe a oval shaped one with a nice frame?

I always wonder, how can you do wuzoo in bowl type sinks .. they are pretty but not practical

Re: Powder Room

yeah…those bowls are not convenient for wuzoo unless you are really limber… :cb:

afshi I don’t want to make the room all girly with the chandelier…Ibrahim would never go for that…but I like the paint and/or wallpaper idea.

I really want to do something that is not common…framed mirrors and those sinks are a pretty common reno.

I wonder what else could be done with the walls…maybe some tiling…I don’t know…I will be on the hunt for ideas and would love to see pics…

Nice dark paint with few boxed frames hanging, displaying Noor's personal art and some other family memorabilia.

Re: Powder Room

tlk..u need to be limber and have some balance.

i dont think the chandelier makes it girlie..but more elegant. but maybe if u have high celings, then it would look better...im on the hunt for pics.

lol.....not a bad idea......

Re: Powder Room

none of my ideas are bad ... ever

Re: Powder Room

i like the colour and the sconces.

Re: Powder Room

Our powder room is sponge painted, that gives the room a lot more character.

A plant in the corner under the sink, candles and a vase on a recessed area (we got so lucky with that) behind the toilet and a couple of framed pictures on the wall make a huge difference :)

Shadow boxes also look lovely, I have some friends who have put those on the walls in their powder rooms and they look very pretty.

Re: Powder Room

A muslim shower perhaps.

I stenciled some of my tiles and painted them, I also added glass shelves and pretty frames!

if you can do a hand stand, every shower is a Muslim shower.
