we are recently trying to train my little 2 and a half year old nephew, but he wont sit o nthe potty nor go near the toilette, but he always tells us when he’s did a number 2 in his nappy.
any tips on how we can lure hi mto sit on the potty:)
Facing a similar problem with our son. He’s almost 2 now. He won’t sit on the potty either, but at least he doesn’t mind going to the toilet. There however he doesn’t do anything, even if we let him sit there for an hour. After doing “his work” in the pampers he always tells us though.
hehe....I'm sure gonna sound silly here....but this is what i did to my daughter. I encouraged her to drink more ...any fluids...n then right after 10 minutes I'd take her to toilet...she hates the potty so we just used that seat for kids on regular toilet seat...there I'd distract her attention n tell her stories n what not (we spent some quality time in the loo :D)....n she would do the task ....of course it wasn't easy in the beginning...we had a few accidents too when she'd try to run away right at the time ...but well...no one learns it in a day. I think she didn't take long to learn the art. With my boys was a totally different story though. I wasn't this creative at that time. :p
They do say that boys are lazy when it comes to this potty training lark!!!!!
My SIL's son was nearly 3 but her little daughter was only about 18 months (if that!) Although my SIL did say that her reason for potty training so early was to save money on nappies (Typical!!!)
Didn't use a Potty for either of them - just the seat and step for the toilet
My sister's son is 3 but still in nappies! (He says "I still wear nappies and sleep in my mummy's bed - sharam sharam!" So cute!!)
We had a tough time with our first 2 boys. The 3rd wants so much to be like his brothers that he was out of diapers the same time as number 2 son.
It was very hard at first to get them to sit on the potty. They were scared of the regular toilet, too intimidating I guess. So we got a child's potty and got to work on that. At first, we put it near the TV, and played a potty-training dvd. Convinced them to sit, even for a few seconds. Each time they sat, they;d get a little reward like an m&m. Then on to diaper off and sit on the potty once an hour for 10 minutes or so - every day, every hour! By the 3rd day, we got results. Then mygoodness did we ever make the hugest fuss! Singing, dancing, clapping hands, calling grandma and aunt happy. All day long, all we talked about was potty stuff.
My first son was the toughest though. We trained him over the summer and let him run around naked on our deck outside. When he had to pee, we'd quickly sit him down on the potty.
i've got a two year old son, and i'm trying to potty train him too.
i think the best thing is not to push them to go to the toilet. the more you push them, the less they want to go near it. i'm sorta in between diapers and underwears right now. but i gotta be real careful when he's wearing his underwear and take him to the washroom every half an hour and make him pee.
doing #2 is a different problem all together :p he goes and hides in the closet and when he's done he'll come and tell me. smack
just let them take their time. eventually they'll start telling you 'mommy, musa's not a baby. musa big boy. musa wears underwear.' and at that time you know he's ready :D
from observing my neices and nephews.....kids will go when THEY are ready and willing.
However from my sisters experiences.....diapers and pull ups only delay the potty training process further. If you really want a jump start...let them run around in some underwear. It will be messy and frustrating....but eventually the child wont like the feeling of being wet.....that wet feeling is something they dont get wearing pull ups or diapers since it absorbs the wetness and keeps moisture away from the skin. If you are not willing to do that...then you are going to have a long process ahead of you.
But how do you know when the child has to go for #2 so that you could take him to the toilet?
cause they start makin' funny faces and scrunch their face all up :D
I got one of those portable potties for children that makes music
when the child goes. See if he would train better on one of those.
haha, i got one of those sajal. all he did was keep hitting the flush lever so that it would make all the fun sounds like 'good job!' and 'you're awesome!'
he was more interested in playing with it rather than doing stuff on it :p
kids are so strange they wont hesitate sticking their fingers in the power outlet but when it comes to potty and toilet "mommy sccccccccary" .come on its not going to suck you in. dadddy sits on it everyday and comes out alive!
We trained my boy when he was 2. We kept taking him to the toilet every 30 mins or so. That helped a lot andwe also made it fun. He would yell out ohhhh baba potty ayeea!!! and we would run to the bathroom.
while on potty, I will sit with him and talk. Let him take his time and enjoy some quality time. It's funny how you don't think your kids poop smells but it doesn't - weird.
I have some friends who have kids much older than mine (up to 4yrs old) So I consider myself very lucky.
Just gotta make it fun somehow and as weird as it sounds, make the kid feel proud of his accomplishment.
take them to the toilet regularly after every half n hour even if they don't pee in the toilet.....try not to make them wear nappies in day time........be patient and just wait for a few weeks.
