Re: Potluck

Do you know what you have to bring?Like a salad or dessert or something for the main course?
Why not bake some chicken, with the regular desi tandoree masala?Cannot go wrong with it,it is easy to make and easy to manage, and hard to mess up with the quantities.

Re: Potluck

some sort of chaana chaat will be easy and great for potluck.

Re: Potluck

Aloo tikkis should be easy and pretty quick

Re: Potluck

Nothing specific, I guess.... so for baked chicken legs, how many leg/thigh pieces should I get???? is 12/each piece enough????

Re: Potluck

Instead of pieces y don't u just grill 2 or 3 whole chickens bc with kids n 22 elders so many pieces

Or u can make simple fruit trifle 2 big dishes.
give layer of pieces of cake thn custard topped wth cream jelly n more fruit easy simple n quick :)

Re: Potluck

for 25 people have 15-20 pieces of legs, have the butcher cut the legs into two pieces...a leg and a thigh piece. That should be enough.

Re: Potluck

Make fruit chaat. Its easy and always a big hit.

Re: Potluck

Chanay ki chaat
Kababs
Baked chicken
Pasta salad
Pakoray and you can do a dessert with this too

Re: Potluck

Lusi is right.Get about 15 of them, have the butcher cut them into 2 pieces each and you will have 15 drumsticks and 15 thighs. That should be good.

Do let us know what you decide to make...!!

Re: Potluck

The chicken is a good idea. This is also a popular recipe I've made tons of times:
Pastitsio
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 1 medium onion, finely chopped
• 2 garlic cloves, crushed
• 1 pound lean ground beef
• Two (14-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes, drained
• 2 teaspoons dried oregano or other dried Italian herbs
• 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
• 1 3/4 teaspoons salt, plus more for cooking macaroni
• 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
• 1/2 pound shell pasta
• 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more for baking dish
• 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
• 4 cups (1 quart) whole milk
• 2 large eggs
• 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
• 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
1. Preheat oven to 375°. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is translucent, about 7 minutes. Stir in beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, and cook until browned, about 7 minutes. Drain all but 1 tablespoon fat. Add tomatoes, oregano, cinnamon, 1 teaspoon salt, and pepper; bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook, covered, for 15 minutes. Uncover, and simmer for 15 minutes more. Remove from heat; set aside.
2. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil; add salt. Add pasta; cook until al dente. Drain macaroni; set aside.
3. Melt butter in large saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook, whisking constantly, for 1 minute. Increase heat to high, and while continuing to whisk, add milk and remaining 3/4 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil, and remove from heat.
4. Beat eggs in a small bowl. Slowly whisk in 1 cup of hot cream sauce, being careful not to scramble eggs, then beat egg mixture back into cream sauce. Whisk in 3/4 cup Parmesan.
5. Brush a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with butter. Add half of the pasta. Cover with 1 1/2 cups cheese sauce. Spread beef mixture evenly over. Layer with remaining pasta; sprinkle with feta cheese. Top with remaining cheese sauce, and sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan. Bake in oven until golden and bubbling, 35 minutes. Let stand until firm, about 15 minutes.

Re: Potluck

do the whole chicken .. and bake in oven . ... its SO easy and so simple... leave the cutting to the men at the potluck . u can not go wrong with this.

if you want.. stuff some boiled potatoes mashed up .. mix butter and some crushed garlic.... stuff murghi with it.

3 chickens will be enough. oh depends on the weight of the chicken.

Re: Potluck

This is just my opinion and what has happened when I make whole chickens.I have seen that mostly people prefer the legs and thighs, and with whole chickens there are just a few of those and lots of breast meat which not many like and hence not everyone gets to eat the chicken. So I almost always prefer the individual pieces now over the whole thing, especially if I have quite a few people coming over.
But if you feel that wont be an issue,go for it.It is actually pretty easy and yummy.

Re: Potluck

I’ve never made a whole chicken :halo: and Im not gonna have these ppl be the 1st ones to try it on :hehe:

No men btw, just women and kids.

Re: Potluck

Sara, I have a fool proof method for the best, most juiciest, moistest (even breast meat!) whole roasted chicken ever!!! I was planning on making one for dinner this weekend anyway..i’ll post it in my recipe thread

Re: Potluck

^Please do.. I want to try it!!!!!

Re: Potluck

errrrrrr

do you mean that 25 people are coming to potluck?

If yes, u really do not need to cook for 25 people perhaps for 10 adults people.

Re: Potluck

If 25 adults and 10 kids are coming to a party, and ever family is bringing food for 25 adults and 10 kids, there will be food for about 250 people and 100 kids at the party.

you take food for 10 people max in a potluck of 25 people.

Re: Potluck

ohhh..WHEW! :hehe:

Re: Potluck

Thank you! I used to panic like Sara and cook sooooo much food only to be disappointed later because people didn't even finish half of it!
