Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!

Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
Ami made panjeeri for me. I don't know everything that is in it, but it's like raisins, almonds, semolina, ghee, some sort of gum, etc. Each item is separately roasted and then mixed together. It's quite yummy and supposed to help you build your strength back.
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
did u eat it. i couldn't eat more than a few times. but its really good i hear
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
MY mom made it for my bhabhi when she had her second baby, man it smelled so good and tasted so good...but i couldn't eat it. :(
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
panjeri. lots and lots of it. it helps you heal and will help with milk production.
Panjeeri is delicious my mom made it too.It really helps you for back pain. Give her everything healthy from mutton to chicken, soup everything will be good. My mom also gave me nuts wala milk.
Panjeeri - it's very nutritious & yummy :)
Sooji ka halwa
Attay ka halwa (done in punjabi families).
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
I have heard they give 'haldi wala doodh'(Milk with turmeric powder) too as it has healing powers.. basically you boil milk with haldi and some nuts, (I dunno exactly what, maybe someone else knows?) and let it simmer for sometime and serve warm.
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
nothing special but I did got mutton yakhani and I think its good for the milk production.
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
Another vote for panjeeri here - we have a family friend who recently gave birth and her mum sent some round for us too - it was yummy. She added ginger in to it to and it gave it a lovely kick! It's a great way of getting an energy boost!
Also as Diamond said - atta halwa - made with wholemeal flour (the kind you make roti with) and its great when you feel unwell or again need an energy boost!
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
What is panjeeri and why is nobody making it for me?! ![]()
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
congrats on becoming a khala sbb!!
May be u are not desi ![]()
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
ok, i dont know the reasoning behind it but my mom says not to use panjeeri until after 7-10 days. Women who have had a c-section shouldnt eat anything with much ghee in it. I had my baby normally, and for the first few days my ammi made me this: heat some ghee/oil and fried some powdererd soondh (dried ginger) in it till a bit bhoonified. Also add sugar to taste. It has a strong taste so she probably wont eat a lot.
give your sister some yakhni. Ammi asked me to eat light items in the begining but i ate almost everything. I think the reasoning behind it is that your digestive system slows down in the first few days so dont send her heavy items taht will be hard to digest.
Hope that helps! Congrats on becoming a khala.
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
oh yes! yakhni also good.
ira -- i didn't know that. i had panjeeri within the first week. but not A LOT.
Re: post pregnency reciepes! Jaldi please!!!
Someone told me that eating green leafy vegetables is great when you've just given birth...Spinach and methi are great...good for digestion too!
^^ thats correct. Methi is especially recommended as it aids in milk production. Doodhi is a great vegetable to have.
Millet is very nutritious, helps with any back aches and even milk production. So millet rotis good.
Nothing sour...in fact some people dont even have tomatoes till 7 days have passed.
This panjeeri item sounds very familiar, but ours has a lot of soonth (ginger powder) to the point that its almost "chilly" in taste. Its excellent for strengthening the back.
Boil water with dill seeds, and she should have that warmed water throughout the day to help avoid gas in the baby if breastfeeding.
Oh and congrats :)
Chicken Yakhni since its very light on the stomach and doesnt cause constipation.
Chicken salan made without any tomatoes or yogurt...and only use salt and red chilli as spices...if you make handmade roti then she can shred the roti into small pieces and soak them in the salan and eat it like soup...
Panjeeri is a must...and milk with nuts gives alot of energy as well..
