Do you know that Pakistan in 2002 became first country in the world who started billing USA and NATO (coalition forces) for the services (use of Pakistani land for transportation, military backing at border, and intelligence support)?

In Zia time, USA gave nothing other than aid and loan. During Musharraf time, ingenuous decision to charge NATO for services mean, no aid or loan, or begging, but honest earning. This way, USA gave little bheek (aid and loan), but had to pay more than billion dollar a year as part of service to coalition forces, and is still paying huge amount every year … thus USA had to create coalition support fund for the purpose. Other countries also paid Pakistan in this respect.

Till now, maybe around 20 to 25 billion dollars or more is paid to Pakistan this way, mostly during Zardari and Nawaz government. In past USA used to give some bheek making a country their paid servant, but since coalition support payments are not aid or loan … in other words alm (bheek or khairat), Pakistan demands that payment, telling USA that how to spend what Pakistan gets as coalition support payment is Pakistani right too (at least that was done till Musharraf was in power), and occasionally negotiated higher payment threatening that they would stop service if not appropriately paid for the service.

So, I think we should come out of asking bheek and khairat from USA … rather demand what we work for as happens in countries that do not need bheek and khairat.
