Many times when we go from other countries (especially UK & USA) to Pakistan, the porters ask for like 300-600 rupees to move your bag if you are international passenger. Lets say that you had to get their help and move your bag.
Since every ‘coolie’ has a different rate, what do you think should be the fixed amount for others to follow for International Passengers as well as Domestic Passengers?
Here’s mine:
International = 200-300
Domestic = 50-100
lol....its not that. I mean even if they didn't bother, what do you think should be the price for Int. & Doms. passengers IF you were to use their help.
Oh ya right. C'mon yaar, I just came back like last December. 100 rupees is what the website says. Last time I went, the guy came up to me and said "Please aap aaye, main aap ki madad kar doo". When I said how much, he said 600 rupees. I was like "whaaaat". Then seeing that it was too much, He said "Chale aap sirf $10 de dain" as if I didn't know that $10 = 600 rupees. So finally negotiatig back and forth, when I was about to leave, he finally settled for 300 rupees.
No, Khumar is right. There is a fixed rate of 100 Rupees for the "official porters". Unfortunately there are a few "illegal porters" as well who try to fool passengers who don't know about the official porterage service, especially when several flights arrive at a time and the official porters are all occupied.
However I've heared that Civil Aviation Authority is now cracking down on the illegal porters and increasing the number of officially acredittet ones.
must have been a nice "Bacha":D .......Eventually they come to 200 rupees but u have to spend like 5-10 minutes bargaining to try to get them at that level.
Portrage used to be Rs. 20 official and we used to give just as much tip so total 40 now the official portrage is 100 and still the porters demand a tip and at times they would hide the receipt of 100 Rs. and ask you to pay 200 or more.
At Lahore airport you should pay 100 plus 20 Rs. as tip not more in Karachi 100 and may be similar tip. Porters in Rawalpindi usually get away without receipt so 100 should be enough for them
Its been 8 years and fives times I went to Pakistan without any hold baggage, just a handy with few clothes & a laptop sometimes other little items. My last trip (less than two months ago) lasted four days in Lahore (was a business trip) and I only carried one jeans, one T-Shirt couple of undergarments, laptop & mobile thats it. :)
Out of aeroplane & straight to my car outside :)
So I was kinda feeling, Rs 100 for Porter, thinking it used to be Rs 10 when I last paid attention to it.
i know this isn't really answering your question..
but those coolies - man, they come after you! i remember at the lahore airport, i mean i've never experienced it before, and all of a sudden you see these guys coming at you.
i mean here in canada you're used to doing things for yourself. pick up your own bags, put 'em in the trolleys and go to your cars.
just a really different experience :D
