Well we all know that eating pork is haram in Islam and even smelling or touching should be avoided if possible. Well I have a Question which has been in my mind for quite a long time. All of us who are living in western countries know how frequently pork is eaten here in Europe and USA.
My question is that if I buy a bread or croissant from a backery and the lady who is selling and gives it to me with her hand is also selling and touching pork with her hands. Now is this bread that I took from her hands also haram. I am confused because I feel I should not be eating this, can someone tell me if its right or wrong, and if you guys and girls feel the same ?
depends… situation…
if you can look at her hands. if ‘pork’ is very obvious on her hands then its better to not buy or ‘politely’ ask her to use ‘napkin’ or other gloves to handle the bread.
I think it all matter of ‘taqwa’, if you avoid ‘ambiguous’ you are in better position rather than regretting it later.
Sadi, a very good question. I don't know about States but here in England you are bound by law to wear special gloves when working on food department. My wife uses in Wal-Mart ASDA and she told me so I am quiet happy with it.
If you check with the food hygiene specialist, he/she be able to answer you better then we can regarding the law of dealing with food.
First of all thanks for telling me your views
Changez_like: where I live there not many desi restaurants only some expensive ones. Its like this when I go for lunch I can choose between going to our firm restaurant or go to some backery and buy a snack. I have reduced going to the restaurant because I didn't feel good eating their meal even if i was only eating the vegetarian stuff. Now when I buy something from a backery they sell everything together thats why I asked my question.
Yes if I see that pork is obvious on her hands I just leave that place. I know I wanna avoid it but its so difficult, everywhere is pork.
mbmagsi: I have seen it in States there is less pork than here in European continent.
But even if the lady wears gloves sometimes they do, they still may touch pork with the same hands or gloves before giving me what i ordered.
Sadi! If you see some one touching pork and anyother thing, if it is supermarket like ASDA, Tesco etc. you are allowed to mention it to the person or even get the Manager on the counter. It is so hard in ASDA that you can only touch vegi stuff when making pizza and should change your gloves every pizz you make.
We have to be very careful about when we go out and eat pizza. There are different pizza shops (in Toronto) such as Pizza Hut, Pizza Pizza, and some other local ones. Now the problem is when you go and ask for a vegetarian slice, what they do is they use the same cutter, the one they used to cut the Pork (pepperoni) pizza. Now we are eating Haram pizza slice even it was a vegetarian.
So we have to be cautious about it!!!!
What I do is I always ask them to wash that cutter and then cut my slice so that way I am much reliable and contented about the food I am eating.
Sadi where are you from?! May u answer this thanx......
...i had to experience the same and still there situations where Im unable to judge is this now haram what im eating or is this something to be ignored. I might think living in such countries austria, germany, switzerland etc etc rather than the states, england and even france, you have to be very careful you might not be 100% right with your minds decision....hmmmm.hmmmm...ALLAH (swt) knows better.

… bring lunch from home. Otherwise, as already indicated, ask the person preparing/handling sandwiches/breads to use a napkin and if necessary - you should explain to him/her politely that pork is ‘untouchable’ in ur beleif.
Rehaan & Ali: You guys are right about being careful eating from outside. If I do eat something from outside I dont feel good eating it. But thank God there are some turkish restaurant, but eating the same thing can become a bit boring with time.
..hmmm its like this I have to get up early in the morning so I allways rush off to work mostly dont even have breakfast..so can you imagine me preparing a lunch bag.
I know its a question of discipline but I also like to eat fresh bread. But your other advise about asking politely about using napkins is a good one I would try to use it in future even if she gives me her mad looks.
What SADI you're from Vienna....great yaar you dont wanna introduce yourself to me?? Come on yaar tell me more...if you want PM me...im sure i know you if you tell me more.
Thanx yaar.

Ibrahim says: Did you all know that LARD (pork fats) are used by bakery's in the phillipines - have you checked what your bakery uses in its manufacture?
Ibrahim thats the point why I am not feeling good eating from outside. Now if we buy some bread we look if there is no lard inside and then we buy it. But nowdays it has become so difficult everything is mixed up and all these codes and numbers, only God know whats inside. Even if we buy a chewing gum or a candy we would never know for sure if there is no pig fat inside. Did you know that gummi candies are made out of pigs fat ehhh
Talking about Pizzas specially veggi Pizza, I don't know about US, but in England we use Veggi cheese instead of animal fat. That is some thing you need to have a look. My elder brother lives in PA, USA and his wife once took us to Pizza Hut. Now I know she is very carefull what she eats and where she eats for example:
Pizza hut's Veggie pizza is Veggie Cheese
McDonald's Fish burger is okay to eat as they use animal free fat oil and don't cook any thing else in the oil.
Do eat out from take aways until you know the people serving as they also sell hot dogs etc.
Ask for Certificate of Halal meat when eat from a restaurant.
If you wish to drink in a pub, always buy bottle drink and don't use the glass.
now if more and more muslim bro and sis look out for these things and ask before ordering from outside this would make the western companies to think twice before adding or using pig fat instead of veggi fat.
Pork breathe the same AIR you breathe, does that mean air is Haram?
You drink the same water pork drink, does that mean water is HARAM?
That is the reason one must think and and ask question to himself,is it right what I am doing? not just to follow what ware written 1500 years ago in some book.
Insuline is produced from PORK to be injected to Diabetic Patient, Have anyone asked any including Muslim Doctors that whether such Insulin is Haram
Our problem is we are just blind followers that's why we have lost our thinking power
No there is a new report that those candies dont contain any sort of pig’s gelatine nor pig fat or whatever. the production of pigs g. is more expensive than of cows.
So you dont have to worry anymore eating them.
btw Sadi you still didnt tell me more about you..are you so shy are you dont want to?!? kiya ho giya yeh to batado ke kon ho tum. At least tell me your family name. thanx.

No. But if there are infections in the air, dont we cover our mouth. Why do doctors cover their face, while performing surgeries, so that any infection, may not transfer into the patient or vice versa.
<>
This is laughable as we do not drink from the same cup or the same pond for that matter.
<>
Some book? That is a childish remark. It is not some book, but it the ONLY BOOK, as if you carefully look at your next observation, you will find the answer.
<>
But if you read 'some book', you will find answer to it as it says that to save life, you can eat/use pork.
someone needs a revisit to ‘porkology’. if ‘pork’ consumption is ‘haram’ why do you have problem? if you wanna eat no one will stop you… I have seen Muslims (though non-practising ones) eating pork, drinking wine/beer but still going for ‘zabiha’ when it comes to eating beef/mutton/chicken
anyway. for those, who want to keep yourself pure, other ingredients to watch for in ‘deli’ products is “mono and diglycerides”, we should not eat a deli product if they include these glycerides from non-veggie sources.
i have some sites which would give detail on some ‘brands’ as well as 'ingredients and restaraunts to ‘consider’ before you eat/consume.
We oughta be Changez like, don’t we?

honestali:Unfortunately some desi people come to western countries and try acting like gorrays to show how “modern” and “uptodate” these people are by coping their lifestyle, sorry but I only feel sorry for those who cannot respect their own religion or people.
Do you know actually what kinds of diseases pork meat contains and how they are spread to human beings. Even the westerners have done research and they admit that pork is not healthy meat and they should be consuming more “white meat” like fish, chicken and pork lesser. Why do you think that it was written is “some book” centuries ago, coz God knew what is good for us and what is not. So plz dont come with “blind followers” theory because God gave us a brain so try to use it, by not forgetting what is written in his book the Quran.
Ali_R: Sorry I have been busy so thats why I did not tell you my name, Ins’Allah I will PM you in some time.
Are you sure about this report and where did you get this information can you plz put the source of your information.
