Re: Pope Urges Blasphemy-Law Repeal
The law in its current form is the problem, as its not only biased, but legitimizes and facilitates harassment of minorities, and anyone that the said accuser does not agree with.
I only agreed that I would grudgingly support the law if it were changed so it could not be abused, and included a clause under which all religous figures would be protected, not just Islamic figures.
The Pope is only critisizing a law that is unjust as it is easy to abuse, it instills intolerance and creates violence. Firstly, the accused cannot expect to get a fair trial, and even if the person is found innocent, the person is still liable to be killed as we have often seen happen.
Now lets be honest, you know this law is unfair, and its being abused. Hence, the law as it stands today is not Islamic. Infact its the height of jahaluth. Islam believes in Justice, and a Muslim is one who strives for Justice. In this case atleast, the Pope is demonstrating a far more enlightened understanding of Islam then the poison spitting snakes calling themselves Muslim while calling for the death of anyone they consider against their beliefs.
