Pakistan summoned the Vatican's ambassador
Pakistan summoned the Vatican's ambassador to express regret over the remarks, as parliament passed a resolution condemning the comments.
Even this mumbled protest by Musharraf government is more than i had expected of them, while the rest of muslim world, takes it as just an other news item, atleast Paki foriegn office says something.

Here is what he said in context:
"The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the Pope said.
"He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached,"' he quoted the emperor as saying.
"The emperor goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable," the Pope said. He did not relate the Persian scholar's response to the emperor.
"Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul," he added.
If he was going to say that spreading faith thru violence is unreasonable why did he have to quote, "*Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached," *thats what gets on my nerves, cuz this is coming from a person supposedly very close to God. And if he didn't believe that it insults muslims than he is not very bright.

Dont you think by reacting the way you are, you are going to give this more coverage than it actually deserves?
Isnt this a repeat of 2005's Danish Cartoons protests in which critics said that Islam is a religion of Peace and muslims demonstrated that by burning down embassies....
Why cant you engage in simple dialogue instead of resorting to such violence?

This is coming from a person who is supposedly the only voice of God on earth. From a person, who's God is coming pretty soon to kill all human beings who dare oppose Israel, whos God was happy slaying gentiles.
He is the head of catholic church who not so long ago was burning and killing people who did not conform to their version of christianity, who was doled out millions of dollars for settling child abuse cases.

I think POPE should refrain from making these kinds of comments to maintain his own credibility and respect. It does not suit his stature and his papal teachings.

ya, not the insurgency perhaps but the suicide bombings in london, madrid and even some of the terrorist attacks on Shias...
without these hardline clerics giving their religious backing to such actions it will be very hard for them to take place
