Poll: What's your ethnicity?

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

i always thought you were Bosnian(judging from your username).

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

The thing is most, if not literally all, tribal Baloch and Pathan women observe full pardha. Chances are, you haven't actually seen faces of proper tribal Pathan and Baloch woman from small towns and villages. Being a female, I was fortunate enough to mingle with tribal women at their strictly segregated weddings (where I was formally told to not use my camera at all), and I was literally blown away by the amount of blond haired, light eyed and milky fair women of Afridi/Kakar/Zehri tribes. Absolutely gorgeous woman. It was so surreal.

Now those women are hidden from the eyes of outsiders, and the eyes of average of Pakistanis. You'll never ever see them barefaced outside of their four walls. But they exist.

I don't see it as rare, considering it's so usual for my sister's to be confused for a Pathan or a Baloch by actual Pathans and Baloch folks. When we would go Pakistan, my mother would remain extra cautious of her, and not let her play outside due to gypsies kidnapping her, she was mash Allah such a unique looking child. They find it very hard to believe she's Punjabi, and non Pakistanis don't necessarily make Pakistani (or South Asian) as a first guess for her.

I don't know if our lineage has some buried secrets - I mean do we have a Caucasian gene in our DNA or some of Pathan blood - who knows. My maternal grandmother (bluish-grey eyes, very fair with sharp nose, angular face and high cheek bones) claims Iranian and Shia ancestry, while paternal grandmother is Kashmiri. My maternal side is a mixture of Awans and Rajput, while paternal side is totally Rajput. Then there are also claims about having bit of Sikh ancestry - my maternal grandfather has been pretty open about this For all we know, we may have bit of South Indian link as well- no one knows. But my family at the end of the day really don't care about genetic genealogy, they fully consider and completely feel Punjabi as this is where the centuries old ancestral land is lying (before 1947 - Indian Punjab was also included in that), and has been passed through generations. My maternal grandmother still tells us story about just how much acres of land they left behind, and basket full of gold they collectively buried in India before migrating to Pakistan - hoping to come back one day and take it back with them - and only to see her teenage Mamoos getting slain by a sword right in front of her eyes along with her young cousin, plus losing a female cousin who unfortunately just went missing during the journey. What happened to that little girl - no one knows. No ever heard any news about her.

Painful, absolutely painful stories.

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

i've seen plenty of Pashtun women and most aren't blonde and milky skinned, as for Baloch, most of them are pretty swarthy apart from some tribes close to the Afghan border where they mixed with Pashtuns.

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

Alright man. My sister is adopted - only God knows who left her at out doorstep in a mosses basket, and what was their ethnicity.

Happy?

This is what I mean by genealogy being slippery slope for an every average Joe.

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

This also varies according to tribe and region. There is a bit of variety among tribes and certain features are more commonly found in certain tribes. Blonde hair and light skin and eyes are quite common among Zazais from Paktia and the surrounding area. Such features are also extremely common among the tribes living around Shamali.

punjabi

Re: Poll: What’s your ethnicity?

Oh Mezghan darling, thank you so much letting me out of my misery. I was going crazy with doubting my memory. How can I possibly witness green eyed blondish Afridi/Kakar women? I must’ve been confusing aliens for Pakistanis.

I think GB is probably thinking I’m talking about Brittney Spears blond or something. When actually, the dirty blonde I was talking about looks like something like the hair colour of the little girl standing at extreme left (the one with a hair band):

Now this is image from Afghanistan, but anyone who has seen even a tiny fraction of Pakistan’s tribal areas can tell you that it’s pretty usual to come across people with light eyes and blondish hair (brownie blonde not Brittney Spears blonde for goodness sake!!!). Heck even Shahid Afridi’s daughters - when you meet them in person - seems to have blondish hair. Can anyone here claim to see women of Afridi’s massive family that consists of villages and villages?

ask them to join the forum, if they dont violate the rules they should be fine.

Re: Poll: What’s your ethnicity?

Yeah, this type of blonde is quite common. I’m not sure why people find this so hard to believe (unless by blonde they mean platinum, Daenerys from Game of Thrones blonde).

Re: Poll: What’s your ethnicity?

Exactly.

It’s like how some people still act so offended by the idea of Aishwerya Rai having blue/grey eyes. They get all moany and disappointed and say all sorts of things like ‘oh she’s Indian, how can she have coloured eyes’, or ‘she’s Tamil or whatever, how can she have coloured eyes and sharp features’? They rather assume she’s secretly mixed race or something than open the narrow tunnels of their mind, and just accept how profoundly diverse and multi-racial subcontinent really is. The rich history of this land is just endless. Asians come in all shapes, sizes, colours and cuts - it’s beautiful.

Re: Poll: What’s your ethnicity?

:hmmm: Didnt know she was a Baloch.

As far as I am concerned I dont see Punjabi’s being an ethnicity. You will see same castes of people living in Sindh and Punjab, and being identified with the province of origin.

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

really??

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

Just for you and Shak, I'll swallow my pride, and put forward a request for membership. If he or the other one listens - great. If not - then not to worry, I'll find you guys some fine Baloch posters who are also proud PTI supporters. Beat that, eh! :D Can't get any better than that, can it?

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

Oh the obsession with blonde color and colored eyes.

As far as people of Pakistan are concerned, they have faced their share of invasions hence the mixed populace.

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

I am sure there would be Baloch wooing for Pakistan as well, we see only one side of the story. Having said that the state needs to treat them better too.

Re: Poll: What's your ethnicity?

I think the educated young Baloch who belong to influential families, who come to UK/USA to study from top and most expensive institutions need to go back and enter mainstream politics. Use their ideas and education for the betterment of their people. Use the power of diplomacy - the diplomacy and politics they study in foreign institutions. They are are fully entitled to study in UK's private and most prestigious schools and colleges, but when they go back, the thought of providing their poor 'subjects' with most basic of basic level education is seen as a total ridiculous and a pointless suggestion.

But they cannot be expected to reform Sardar-Wadera culture if they are deeply intoxicated by it. Just look at Benezir - in her every autobiography - she gushes about her time in Harvard and Oxford, describes them as her best time of her life, but when in power, did she ever make any attempt to give women of Pakistan their Oxford and Harvard? She lived in Britain, she was inspired by and fully enjoyed feminism movements of 60s and 70s, but what did she do to emancipate the woman of Larkana, forget about rest of the Pakistan? Same with her son, the Oxford graduate idiot, instead of promising education reforms, makes ethnic shots and indulges in cheap, pathetic character assassination and name calling of senior politicians on twitter for his fifteen minutes fame. In the country where he got his degree from, he would've been facing courts for his insolent and instigative behaviour.

God knows I'm waiting for the day when this foreign educated Wadera talks about economic emancipation and enlightenment of his dear Sindh.

Re: Poll: What’s your ethnicity?

i once watched one hour show, Balochistan Special, on “Policy Matters”, hosted by Naseem Zehra, and in that show i couldn’t believe the hatred Balochis have towards Pakistan. it was unimaginable. one girl got very angry when the host addressed her as Pakistani. that show should be an eye opener to the politicians and do something before it’s too late.

i think most Balochis will agree to stay in Pakistan at the end of the day if they are treated equally, their resources are shared amicably and their political autonomy is guaranteed along with development work. education is also very important and it should be made available to them. their right to access to education must be granted.
