Gujarat back on edge, man burnt alive

VADODARA: The city was back on the edge late Tuesday night after a man was burnt alive in his car in the Ajwa Road area in the city’s eastern outskirts in latest violence in the wake of the dargah demolition on Monday. Reports of communal clashes were coming in from at least three neighbourhoods past midnight. Mobs had gathered on Ajwa Road where there are residential colonies of both Hindu and Muslim communities. According to the police, a mob stopped a van (GJ-6-AA-8258) and burnt its sole occupant later identified as Mohammedrafiq Abdulgani Vora, 35, of the nearby Kismet Colony. DCP Siddharth Khatri said the incident happened before the police or fire-brigade could reach the spot. He said the mob had been dispersed and Rapid Action Force deployed in the area. Police also said people were being evacuated to safety from the Ajabdi Mills area. Earlier on Tuesday, sporadic clashes and stone-pelting were reported in some areas and one person was killed in police firing, taking to five the toll in the violence. Police fired at a rioting mob at around 2 am in Motivohrawaad area, killing one person while two others were injured in clashes. Wadi resident Mohammad Ashfaq Arab (23), admitted to the SSG Hospital after being hit on the head by an object, also died.As his funeral procession was taken out through the Madar Market area, clashes broke out. “The police took immediate action and a company of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was sent to stop the violence. They fired one round of tear gas shells at the rioting mob,” said DCP (South) Kesarisinh Bhati.
As the police organised peace meetings and newly-appointed DGP P C Pande made a quiet visit to the city, violence began this afternoon near Adania Pul during the funeral procession of two Fatehpura residents, Imran Hussain Dhobi (25) and Mohammad Hayat Mansuri (22), who died yesterday. Both communities began pelting stones at each other. Acid bulbs were thrown at an SRP tent near Panigate police station, seriously injuring five jawans. The SRP jawans fired nine rounds and lobbed tear-gas shells. In the combing operations that followed, police arrested 48 people, including 22 in connection with the two stabbings on Monday. Vadodara police commissioner Deepak Swaroop said police fired 14 rounds and lobbed 56 tear gas shells to control the violence. DGP Pande said he had advised Swaroop to continue dialogue with the two communities. “Our focus is that the anti-encroachment drive should be allowed to continue without creating major law and order upsets.” A bus was torched last night by rioters near Aradhana Talkies. Police also fired tear-gas shells in Doodhwalla Mohalla behind the Vadodara court complex as members of the two communities clashed. A cotton godown near Ajabdi mill was set on fire by local residents in the afternoon.

Please provide a list of all Hindu temples older than 100 years old that were demolished for so-called infrastructure projects in said state.
Just look at that infiniti comment above... where it talks about 18 religious structures... of Hindus....

A relgious place is a religious place and decision taken is that it has to go when it comes to development...
As well you are forgetting that funds for this were given by Hindu family. That point many of you are clearly avoiding....

<<But let us return to our past and enter few temples. The Kaleshwar temple at Maheswar (1565 AD) contains some beautiful decorated marble ‘shivalinga’. The borders around the doorframes are exquisitely carved. Equally ancient are Matangeswara, Kadambakeswara, Vruddha Kaleswara and Vesho-Narayana. And at Omkareshwar is the ancient temple of Omkarji built by Raja Mandhata, a great Shiva devotee. During the course of centuries the temple got lost under dense jungle. Peshwa Bajirao II, after a futile search built a new temple at Manileswara in front of the colossal Nandi at the Gauri Sarnath temple. Later the original temple was found and a new temple built in its place.
Most sacred of all this is the Omkarammalleswara temple** which is one of the 12 Jyothir lingas in whole country. **At this spot, Narmada flows out from beneath the mountain, swirls around the ‘yoni’ and then disappears again!>>

Universally, when a shrine reaches a certain age it takes on a different character.
And yes, if you show me a news clipping of an equally old Hindu shrine getting the wrecking-ball treatment, I'd gladly consider this business as usual, and having no communalist dimension.

Where were they? Was it rehtoric on the part of the official who quoted that number? Also, how old where they?
To be fair, what was the nature of the shrine that was demolished...was it old and a hazard?
Needless to say, if a shrine was revered and very frequently visited...no doubt the authorities would consider it (at least for Hindu shrines)...this is why it is important to determine the nature of the alleged Hindu shrines that were demolished with respect to the Muslim one. Were they makeshift? Were they well established? And so on...
THis attitude that for the sake of development historical places needs to be demolished is anti-cultural...seems odd in a country like India that is chalk full of historical places.

Than I haven't seen any migration of Muslims from Gujarat till now that kind of Hindu migration we are seeing from Kashmir.....

Yes it does. It is clear that the Gujarat government do not regard Muslims (and other minorities) as equal citizens, and would like to ethnically cleanse them.

“The Gujarat government must be vigilant against extremist violence against helpless civilians,” said Brad Adams, Asia director for the New York-based Human Rights Watch. “Instead of allowing this violence to deepen religious hatred, the authorities should launch an immediate, thorough and transparent investigation to ensure that those responsible are prosecuted and punished,” he said.

The police people have been suspended with enquiry into it..
Indian police does used high handed manners. Though the crowd was violent and police used force, same force is being used against many other demonstration and there is great debate going on within country regarding while police in India in general is using more often strong hand tactics...
Though your obvious motive is to push it as Hindu Muslim issue...
So go ahead and dosome more cut and paste and some more abusive language by your friends..........
