PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

Nawaz’s return has not helped his party’s position, especially in Punjab where defections to the PML Q continue.

PML-N in dire straits after defections in six districts

A neck and neck contest is expected between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) in six districts after a number of bigwigs left the PML-N, The News has observed. The Rai clan in Sahiwal, the Maitlas and the Syeds in Khanewal, the Bosans and the Sheikhs in Multan and the Khichis in Vehari have left the PML-N. They are contesting the 2008 polls from the PML-Q platform. PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has started a tour of six districts of the southern Punjab after a decade of getting a heavy mandate from them. This time he has lost the support of heavyweights.

There is a rift in the party over the distribution of tickets as it has ignored the candidates who won the seats in the 2002 elections. The PML-N captured 19 seats out of 23 National Assembly seats from Multan, Lodhran, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan and Vehari in the 1997 elections, but it could capture only two seats in 2002 due to Sharif’s exile. The PML-N held a meeting of six National Assembly and 13 Punjab Assembly ticket-holders at the residence of Javed Hashmi on Sunday to finalise Nawaz’s public meeting in Multan and tour arrangements from Sahiwal to Multan. The following is the list of defections to the PML-N after 1997. Malik Sikandar Hayat Bosan won the NA-114 (present NA-151) seat by securing 67,320 votes. He has joined the PML-Q. He had been elected MNA from the PML-N platform in the 1997 and 1993 polls. Sheikh Muhammad Tahir Rashid is also a two-time winner from NA-116 in 1997 and 1993. Dewan Jaffar contested on a PML-N ticket in 1997. Later, he joined the PML-Q. The PML-N has rejected turncoats and did not award him the ticket. The Sadaat of Shujaabad, Syed Javed Shah, won NA-119 in 1997, 1993 and 1990 on the PML-N platform. He has left it and joined the PML-Q. The Sadaat family is supporting the PML-Q unanimously. Syed Fakhar Imam won his seat on the PML-N ticket from 1988 to 1997. He has left the party and joined the PPP. The Hirajs and Maitlas of the district remained loyal to the PML-N, but now have joined the PML-Q. However, a pocket of the Dahas will be with the PML-N in the coming polls. The PML-N has awarded ticket to Shahzad Khan Khakwani from Mian Channu after the death of Ghulam Haider Wyne. The Rajputs and the Rai family are dominant families in the district, which have detached themselves from the PML-N after the 1997 polls. They had been with the party since 1988. The Rai family has developed differences with the PML-Q. Its candidates Rai Azizullah and Waheed Asghar Dogar have returned the PML-Q tickets and are contesting independently.

Re: PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

PML-N ppl were first defecting because they thought Nawaz will boycott. now theya re defecting because if the namesake of PML-N i.e. nawaz is not eligible then would people really vote for PML-N cadidates. thats the thought process at work.

Re: PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

Simple. But some people still do not understand this. :)

Re: PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

Yes, that's quite true. Also I am sure that a lot of PML N members are pretty angry with the fact that Nawaz has achieved little succes in his parley with BB, and basically been backstabbed back her at every opportunity.

More chaos in the PML Nawaz.

PML-N men resign over party tickets

By Our Correspondent

NAROWAL, Dec 20: District office-bearers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have resigned in protest against the alleged distribution of party tickets to those who had been working for the erstwhile ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Q. PML-N’s Narowal President Muhammad Akbar Khan told a press conference here the party leadership did not consult its district office-bearers before awarding tickets for the Jan 8 elections. He alleged that tickets had been given to people who supported and worked for the PML-Q instead of “true party workers and office-bearers” who stood by Nawaz Sharif and faced the government’s wrath for eight years. He said no office-bearer would participate in the PML-N’s election campaign. Besides Khan, local office-bearers Chaudhry Munir Afzal, Noor Ahmed Sindhu, Rana Muhammad Ayub, Muhammad Rafique, Rana Iftikhar Ahmed, Ibrahim Goraya, Chaudhry Shakeel Humayoun, Khan Mushtaq Ahmed, Aslam Saleem Boti, Javaid Qamar and Muhammad Asif Khan also resigned from their offices.

Re: PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

It is evident that 'someone' has very cleverly divided PPP and PML (N) and infighting is ensuing. Maybe their one point agenda of 'getting bak in power no matter what' - rather than sincereity towards the nation was not a good idea.

Re: PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

The only people that have divided these parties is the actions of their two leaders, and their power hungry and corrupt ways.

Re: PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

Well, the lack of support they are getting from the people these days, it looks like people have seen through their motives.

Re: PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

Aalsi, why dont you talk about the support PML[Q] is getting these days? :hehe:

NS is history. Don't count on him doing anything much during or after the elections. He is an ISI man. :)

Re: PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

Big trouble for PML Nawaz in Multan, a former stronghold for them.

Tough contests are expected between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) on the city’s four National Assembly seats, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) seems to be reeling at the third position.

Re: PML- Nawaz in dire straits after defections in six districts

First PML Nawaz suffers humiliation in Multan, now Faisalabad.

NA-78: Faislabad - PML-Q snuffs light out of PML-N

LAHORE/FAISALABAD, Dec 26: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) suffered a setback in Faisalabad after the Pakistan Muslim League-Q won over its candidate for NA-78, Peerzada Ashraf Zia. PML-Q’s Punjab President Pervaiz Elahi announced here on Wednesday that Zia had joined the erstwhile ruling party after seeing its ‘popularity’. He asked PML-N ticket holders to return their tickets and come back to the ‘genuine’ party, the PML-Q. He said Zia’s presence in the PML-Q would strengthen the party in Faisalabad. Speaking on the occasion, Zia said he returned the PML-N ticket and joined the PML-Q after seeing the development work undertaken by the recently dissolved government. Zia contested the 2002 general election from the same constituency from the PML-N platform and got 42,000 votes.
