PM extends Army Chief’s term for 3 years from Nov 29

i love it, what's worst beating women & children or drinking wine ?

alhamdulillah i do none of the above. 1 wrong don't justify another. it's a coward's way out IMO.

so why do you support low life scum of earth (commonly known as Taliban) .. ?

Re: PM extends Army Chief’s term for 3 years from Nov 29

Army Chief theoretically receives orders from the Secretary Defense who receives orders from the Minister Defense receives orders from the Prime Minister.

It is interesting that the PM had to come on TV to announce extension in service for a 'public servant'.

we are a special country, where army is not for country - it's other way around.

But do you have choice?

Let the system continue as it is, that's the only way we can get out from the gutter of military rules. Remember Turkey, it takes time ?

Re: PM extends Army Chief’s term for 3 years from Nov 29

Today the Prime Minister disclosed that he, President, COAS and CJ will remain on their posts till 2013 so automatically Ch Nisar will enjoy seat of Opposition leader and chairman PAC and Sh..baz will remain CM so everyone enjoying his position except Benazir but perhaps she is on better place. Her successors have perhaps left the way of Bhutto and using the way of others.

Re: PM extends Army Chief’s term for 3 years from Nov 29

^ nice.. that’s what i call strategic planning…

President term expires in May 2013 ( so that’s mean their are overwhelming chance of President Zardari for second term :D)
PM & Assemblies term expires in March 2013
CJ term expires in April 2013
Army Chief term expires in Nov 2013

MashALLAH .. now beat this :hehe:

Not impressed!

Regardless of how well Kayani has performed as COAS, this is grossly unfair because aap kissi ka haq maar rahey hain

Yes the war against taliban and other extremist miscreants must continue but I just cannot believe that they could not find another suitably qualified general who could carry on with the same strategy against these terrorists. This is just a bull **it argument

Afterall it is not like Kayani plans military strategy all by himself. I am sure he consults his fellow generals and corps commanders on all matters of sensitive issue

Most likely the PPP government has bowed to heavy pressure from the military high command and establishment...do this or-else democracy ko khatra hai, baaqi aap khud samajhdaar hain

Mashallah the respective tenures of President, PM, CJP & COAS will now roughly end at the same time. some coincidence..

apni kursi bachao, army ko khush rakho

Only in Pakistan..

all I want to know is why is the Supreme Court, Iftikhar Ch. etc not taking notice of this? the PM promotes a civil officer or gives an extension to someone and the Supreme court and its egomaniac judges start foaming at the mouth. but as soon the army does something you won’t even hear a squeak out of the supreme court. what a sham this court and its judges are.

and here’s a part of a Dawn program that shows a lawyer Hashmat Habib talk about this promotion is not so glowing terms at about 0:55.

later on it was reported that Mr. Habib’s offices were fired upon by “unknown persons”. kamaal hay. what a nice little coincidence. he speaks against the army and gets fired upon. what the hell are these uniformed thugs doing?

Re: PM extends Army Chief’s term for 3 years from Nov 29

a very bold show which has taken a very honest approach to discussing Kiyani’s extension. lets see how long it is on the air for before it is taken down by our brave armywallas.

raises some serious questions about Kiyani and his extension. rubbishes the notion that the oh so noble Kiyani did not want an extension when in fact he badly wanted one. similarly, asks tough questions about the supreme court which is hyperactive when it comes to anything civilian but doesn’t want to touch anything close to the military. what a false dawn/hope. naive fools like me thought that this time would be different.

Re: PM extends Army Chief’s term for 3 years from Nov 29

well did it occur to you guys that perhaps US military command and establishment in US and afghanistan wants a reliable, trustworthy and most importantly a familiar counterpart in pakistan esp if the dude is getting the job done and meeting expectations

just some food for thought

Re: PM extends Army Chief’s term for 3 years from Nov 29

^ Should they not have done the same with McChrystal? Why not seek reliability and consistency when it comes to their own policies?

It would be really pathetic if after 3 years we are left with a crop of inexperienced generals, incapable of handling anything but a golf club.
